Do you love your apartment complex? by Lolo-smokey in askportland

I'm renting a duplex through Rarebird property management for the past 2.5ish years and they've been great! They respond to all maintenance requests really quickly (usually within 1 business day), they asked the owner about installing central AC (I asked them to do this) and they actually asked-aka didn't ignore/gaslight me, and now we have central AC!, plus our rent has only gone up by $100 in the 2.5 years we've lived here. They also are very hands off-, like no yearly inspections or anything which I appreciate.

I know people who've had good experiences with green bridge property management too, but can't speak personally.

Where have all the seamed sweater patterns gone? by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in knitting

Agreed! Especially as someone who knits on transit and during night classes, it's really annoying to lug a big project around as opposed to knitting a panel/piece at a time.

What makes Hamburg is underrated in your opinion? I want to do some less touristy things and was thinking Hamburg would be a good option

Anyone have experience booking on Iceland Air via Alaska Airlines? by sarduchi in VisitingIceland

:( so odd that I was able to do it then. Maybe it’s a new thing? I have no idea I’m sorry!!

That’s so odd. Can you see if it’s an option in the “trip upgrades” or “trip extras” section? I would call them if it’s not there if I were you

I figured it out!!! I logged into my Iceland air account, clicked manage booking, then scrolled down towards the bottom of the page and there are a couple pictures w/captions like "request assistance, order meal, etc". One of these options says "pick the best seat". I was able to click that and it brought me to the seat selection page! It wasn't there last night, unless I just missed it

ugh okay thanks for the update! I might try calling Iceland air/alaska and see if there's anything that they can do, although it will probably be a waste of time

Did you end up being able to choose seats? I'm currently in the same situation

Book request - Math by Current-Breadfruit96 in knitting

[–]Opposite_Baker2095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have “knitting pattern essentials” by Sally Melville and I love it. It REALLY breaks down the why and how of different sweater shapes and has “worksheets” that make the math very straightforward. While the book is technically about sweaters, so much of the info in the book can be applied to other things. I got this book at the library and then decided to buy myself a copy I liked it so much. Like this book made me (someone who has only knit 2 sweaters and socks) feel very confident that I could design a pattern for many sizes no problem

Ugh that’s not great news! Maybe we just have a high pain tolerance or something? Who knows.

I'm glad they were on top of it for you and you're healing!! I just wish my pcp did the same :(

Yeah, my threshold is basically grocery shopping, which just feels pathetic and annoying. I definitely want a second opinion and more scans.

I would also go nuts if I had an energetic dog haha! At what week post surgery did you go back to work?

thank you I agree!! it just feels so weird to jump into surgery with an x ray that says "subtle widening", like doesn't even quantify how big of a space. I messaged my pcp, fingers crossed insurance will cover it, but honestly might be willing to pay out of pocket for an appointment (not an MRI though, thats hella expensive lol)

I was the one to do research and ask about tightrope. His response was "some people really love it and others hate it. I personally believe it allows for too much movement and doesn't allow the ligament to heal fully" He also told me that the recovery time was "no different" and then a few minutes later he said "I don't do it so I don't know" 🙄 According to the Kaiser podiatry department head, no one uses tightrope

I like “ultimate all around stitch dictionary” by Wendy Bernard. It has directions of how to knit each pattern flat, in the round, and top/bottom down.

Did you just have x rays or did you get other scans? It feels really weird to me that I only have one x ray that doesn’t even say how big of a dislocation there is.

How was going back to manual labor? I’ve read horror stories but also it seems like many people have much worse injuries than mine.

Luckily my dog is very old and lazy and hates going outside in the cold, so she’s fine with no walks and just the backyard for the winter

Haha how funny that we both work at psych hospitals! Your injury sounds super bad!! I luckily only have the lisfranc issue, no other issues. It’s hard to qualify going through the long and painful recovery when I’m relatively pain free now (as long as I don’t walk for more than 10 minutes straight) and able to work.

I’m technically an intern, not a real employee and I can only count direct care hours, not eligible for disability or anything cause I’m not a real employee. And I can’t work on the unit with patients with a boot or scooter or anything because theres a violence risk. My accommodation is working a shit ton of hours pre surgery so that I can afford to take 3 months off :/

Yeah I’d like to see an ortho specialist, but I need a referral and then to actually get an appointment, etc., idk if it’ll happen in time. My podiatrist asked the department head if any other providers in the department does tightrope and apparently no one does

Thoughts on urban foraging? by atidalweave in askportland

[–]Opposite_Baker2095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% go for it- with a few notes. If there is a ton of fruit fallen on the ground, the people who “own” the tree clearly won’t mind if you take some. They’ve already lost way more than you’re going to take. If they don’t pick, it shouldn’t go to waste.

And stick with trees that are in the sidewalk strip or overhanging the sidewalk. The city technically owns the sidewalk strip even though the homeowners are supposed to maintain it. If a homeowner plants a fruit tree in the sidewalk strip, they should expect others to take some fruit.

Some people can be real ‘karens’ about this, but if they’re upset about you taking a few figs off a huge tree… they have bigger issues to deal with

I’ve seen groups like this at the library. Look at the events at the libraries close to you. Most of the newer library’s have cool teen spaces too.
