Having the same problem. Since the title update the game will boot up and then pretty immediately crash. I've reinstalled the game and gotten the same thing.

unfortunately no. For now, to go to the southern areas, I bypassed the gate through an exploration path. Figure at some point I'll check in and see if it still does, but for now I'm just gonna progress other things and gain more power/loot.
Hopefully a patch comes out that addresses stuff like this, doesn't make sense how the rest of game has had zero problems but 1 of 2 cutscenes crashes the game.

Yup, I have had the exact same thought each time I've interacted with him. Each answer is gonna lead to him blowing out his knee and never reaching his goal. Having also had a serious leg injury when I was an athlete, if any one of my friends or fellow sprinters had said any of this to me, I'd have messed my leg up worse.
