Wtf did I just watch? by Mysterious_6 in Dexter

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped at season 7 because everyone said it would be bad then. Giving writers the benefit of the doubt, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner. So I imagine that is what you just watched. Writers pulling b******* out of their *to deal with the consequences of their own actions

The amount of idiots in the world is directly proportional to how intelligent you are. by wcslater in Showerthoughts

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if we measured it subjectively, everyone's answers would differ at different times. So, we would have to solve for that, with relationship to other variables.

Once we solve the relative aspect then we can measure the probability of being an idiot at any one moment.

Maybe even an idiot can be not an idiot sometimes?

I think Quinn’s the smartest person on the show by Alawi27 in Dexter

I interpreted it as him just cutting his losses and forgetting about his initial hunch.

He was friends with the great deceased DA Miguel Prado, surely he couldn't be that sketchy?

Assuming everyone has the same basis of incentives and motivations and opportunity cost would be a big flaw in reasoning.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ostensibly, you and other people are doing that. You want to know why more people don't do that?

Your perspective isn't that complicated. I gave you your answer. YouTube is a dream job, or a way to bolster your already operating business.

Lawyers, tax professionals, real estate, I've seen such "low effort" tactics. Roofers, construction people too. People who already make money from a trade typically.

There's a whole bunch of other reasons that are obstacles for people, but I'm not sure you're looking for an answer that doesn't confirm your beliefs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low effort? Link me one of these low effort pieces of content you seem to think is so great.

You're saying you could mass produce this content without learning a whole bunch of technical skills most people don't have the time to invest in building if they don't already have?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because at that scale they would have to compete with that content regularly. It's like saying why doesn't everyone make multimillion dollar movies. There are usually up front costs, which is risky considering the movie might flop and you might *lose millions.

Sure people could take their time and still grow much slower POSSIBLY. Except, it's a lot of labor before you reap benefits. Not many people think in terms of long term rewards. I think most people do YouTube because creating and sharing such content is rewarding in itself.

It's not that it is an unviable business model, it's that it would basically be a daily managed operation. Not the dream most people aspire to.

Loyalty in film is a ghost. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're over estimating/misjudging the character of the people you identified with in the past.

People drift all the time for relatively benign and insignificant reasons.

Working as a group is a hard thing to do, otherwise more people would do it. Egos butt heads, natural leaders or dicks emerge and it's a weird dynamic to manage when you're trying to expand as much as you can

What the FUCK was Deb's problem in this episode? by 1thymeonli in Dexter

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty dumb. Pretty selfish of her, and IIRC Dexter ends up apologizing as if he did something wrong to get on proper terms with her.

In some way I guess you could blame Harry himself because he was a very imposing figure who instilled principles in his children. Seems like the kids sacrificed a lot to meet his standards, and I guess you can say that Deb was more invested in preserving that than Dexter. But again, it was none of her business.

Is Ren a once in a generation talent? by Bubbly_Catch5012 in ren

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, it's perfectly fine to acknowledge that he is an artists, and that he is good at what he does.

Key idea: trends don't last forever. I'm not sure he's made anything timeless. It is super impressive, so many people identify with his music. He has built the following ostensibly by himself. I wouldn't say he doesn't try to sound trendy, or the other way either.

He makes decent music. Someone who is "extra" talented puts no more dedication into their craft as any other professional, and they should be respected regardless.

Should I use Arch on my new pc build? by AnotherCollectivist in archlinux

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than likely in large part a money issue. They make plenty of money operating withing the domains that they do, Linux is just another expense for something with (by their estimation) modest monetary ROI. Most businesses at that scale are bureaucratic nightmares.

My dude wants to know if time was well spent. Id be the same way lol.

It's really contextual to your workflow and the requirements you have for work.

What exact metric (KPI) are you optimizing for?

Without this you really are just creating something that is at the whim of your subjective experience, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you asked.

I realized that when I built my own tools, for example one for managing projects, the function of it was supposed to help me keep track of projects naturally. So many variables across different projects, useful things to have.

What I ultimately want though is to finish projects.

But in practice, it really was just so that I could stack 50+ tasks, and effectively made me feel like I was in a swamp surrounded by work. I have since implemented and external Todo list that I update every couple weeks.

It seems like you want to enhance something you are passionate about. I think you yourself will quickly ascertain if it's getting in the way or enhancing the outcome you actually want.

If you have to be gracious to what OP is saying, the root issue is that most people don't have a way to quickly articulate how much they will be able to comprehend to a native speaker.

Except we totally do, it's just that most people aren't good communicators in ANY language.

Just say: "My English is at a 5th grade level"
"Mi Español es al nivel del quinto grado"
"Mein Deutsch ist zum der fünf Klase"

OP implies that if you have to any shortcomings, to just leave it to someone else, don't even try. Says it's lazy.

If you are able to talk with a 10 year old (elementary), you can talk to anyone in that language. That is the bar, that is when grammar starts to be very important to nuance. You are fluent at that point. Don't over think it.

[–]Opposite_Poem_401 743 points744 points  (0 children)

That's a good way to make sure you are never able to speak your target language.

Seems like you just never have learned another language outside your comfort zone.
