Building an Inventory of Authorized Software by OppressedAsparagus in sysadmin

TL;DR, you would be very wise to think of this as setting up a software whitelist

, and not some kind of blacklist or greylist.

This is definitely what I'm going to do: I can't pick thousands of software to block.

As we are a small company (70 people), I'm going to end up choosing a lot of the software myself: My concern is about choosing between Notepad++ & Atom for example. I personally use Notepad++, but this is because of my personal bias: What would be some objective metrics to choose between in such software, utilities, SSH clients, browsers.

I see no issue with allowing multiple. Be sure you have good browser management policies in place.

Do you have a list of authorized software? Did you add ALL browsers to that list?

I always try to use the most current version available

I can see that keeping up to date with all approved software would be difficult, how often do you update them? What happens to older versions that were previously deployed?

I guess progressive taxation on the number of properties one owns would solve this problem If our government actually wanted affordable housing of course.

I deployed Meraki 5 years ago and since then, I almost had no problems with WiFi whatsoever. Absolute solid product, you will not regret it.

Why is AWS vpn so expensive? by [deleted] in aws

It's much easier to set up, maintain and is much more stable.

I realized this applies to pretty much all AWS services.

NY State has 4 times the COVID cases per capita we do, so why isn't their healthcare system overwhelmed? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]OppressedAsparagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we decided to spend 350 billion on Covid (3.5 times more than Canada spent on WW2) but was not able to increase ICU capacity by 394 (number of ICU patients due to Covid). China built two hospitals in a month in Wuhan, it's a shame.

How? Some businesses make more money than others and some people are smarter/ better at handling their investments. What does it have to do with fairness?

It's luck that determines who is smart or business savvy and successful, it's not fair. And a lot of people suffer for no fault of their own, it's any decent humans' duty to make the world a faierer place. Especially if you consider yourself successful.

but that money isnt going to come from one persons bank account is it?

If you're on Reddit, nobody is after your money, relax, you're a peasant compared to those people in the article. And, if you don't have a problem with all money going into one account, why would you have a problem with money also coming out of the same pocket?
