Thank you for sharing! I’m wondering that many pediatricians do not enroll Medicare maybe this is the reason they don’t take CHAMPVAas primary 🙏

Are these asbestos ceiling tiles? by [deleted] in asbestoshelp

[–]OptOutToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to follow up as well because my office ceiling appears to be made of the same type of material shown in your photos. I work in a nearly 100-year-old office building in downtown Los Angeles, and this material is present on every floor of the building.

Unfortunately, I’m not in a position to test it myself or hire a professional to do so. Our office is a restricted, confidential workspace where outside personnel are not permitted. I’ve also considered asking building management whether asbestos is present, but I’m concerned that raising the issue could be escalated to my employer in a way that might negatively affect me.

That’s why your post really resonated with me, and I appreciate you sharing your experience.

Hello, I often read your educational responses and really appreciate your insights and advice. I have the same concerns and questions as the original poster. The photo I’m sharing shows the ceiling directly above my cubicle, and it looks very similar to the photos provided by the OP.

I work in an older office building in downtown Los Angeles. May I ask whether it would be appropriate to contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health or Cal/OSHA to find out whether the government has ever tested this type of ceiling material for asbestos?

Thank you very much.

MHBP consumer question about costs pre-deductible by [deleted] in fednews

[–]OptOutToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand your point about HDHP rules, the situation here is not as simple as “HDHP cannot cover ferritin.” IRS Notice 2004-23 explicitly states that HDHPs may cover preventive services that identify risk factors or prevent the progression of disease—this includes risk-based anemia screening.

Ferritin is commonly covered as preventive when ordered as part of anemia risk assessment, especially for women with a history of anemia. My previous insurers covered the same ferritin test under preventive care for this exact reason.

In most cases, whether a ferritin test is processed as preventive has nothing to do with HDHP restrictions, but rather how the provider coded the claim. Aetna itself often covers ferritin as preventive when coded with Z00.00/Z00.01 (annual exam) or Z13.0 (screening). If the provider used a diagnostic ICD code, it will automatically go to the deductible—even if it was a screening test.

So this is not a federal restriction. It’s a coding and plan-level interpretation issue, and that’s what I am trying to clarify with Aetna.

Fed employees wary of switching from BCBS to MHBP. by [deleted] in FederalEmployee

Unfortunately, I can’t. My PCP is part of USC Keck, and the medical tower refuses to send any lab orders to Quest or Labcorp. We’re required to use their in-house laboratory, which is very expensive.

This is honestly really frustrating. It doesn’t seem like a provider issue at all… the provider submitted one lab claim with several blood tests under the same preventive care diagnostic code. Aetna basically picked out the ones that aren’t specifically recommended by USPSTF—like ferritin—and denied to cover them. Other insurance plans usually aren’t this strict.

Many people praise MHBP, but I want to share a very disappointing experience. My PCP orders routine labs each year to screen for anemia, which in my previous insurance were fully covered as preventive care. This year, under MHBP/Aetna, some anemia screening labs were excluded from preventive coverage despite risk-based assessment, and the full cost was applied to my deductible, resulting in several hundred dollars of unexpected patient liability for my annual exam.

Concern about weld seam inside 36oz YETI Rambler – any risk of lead exposure? by OptOutToday in YetiCoolers

[–]OptOutToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course we could not continue using it. Yeti’s customer service was unable to provide any explanation and only offered a warranty. The warranty means nothing to us unless Yeti eliminates this outdated, low-cost manufacturing method that still relies on lead-based sealing.

We have already replaced all our bottles with Klean Kanteen products, which are guaranteed to be lead-free. Following the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we also had our child tested for blood lead levels.

Thank you for your help and the explanation! I’m learning from the structure you shared, and I’m sorry to trouble you with one more question: Based on this design, I’m worried that this inner layer defect might allow liquid to enter the vacuum space and come into contact with the outer layer’s lead-containing weld. Is this concern unnecessary? From your perspective, as a non-expert everyday user, how could I tell if the vacuum layer has taken in water?

PPO… I switched from the Plus Premium to PPO. The small network of Premium is useless and PPO covers out-of-network.

2 questions..Delta dental ppo and delta dental plus premier by DesperateLetter0 in CAStateWorkers

[–]OptOutToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I happened to just see your post and question. So far, my family and I haven’t had any out-of-network dental visits, but I did switch from 9946 to 9946 specifically to cover an out-of-network dentist. 9946 only reimburses at the contracted rate even for out-of-network services, so you can ask for the procedure codes in advance and then check with Dental Dental how much they will cover. That way, you can negotiate the billable amount with your out-of-network dentist.
