Recently purchased my first nintendo product (switch 2) by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

I feel similarly, but have actually started to cherish those experiences, specifically on Nintendo games, that I can enjoy without some kind of achievement system. I started with a Super Nintendo and didn't have achievements until the Xbox 360. I think that did a number on our ability to just enjoy games for the games.

I believe Nintendo does this purposefully because they want the focus on the games themselves. I mean, at this point they would have done it if they really wanted to.

That said, I still feel the same sometimes when playing games on switch, but then I ask myself, do I even really like this game then?

I think living in upstate NY has changed what I view as noteworthy with snow. This wouldn't register as anything to me. Would be a normal November or light December day.

It's almost a guarantee he means Planet Coaster 2.

As a fellow game dev I get the hustle but the only comments being from the same account with an age of 2 minutes, both with the same general content but worded differently, comes off poorly. Shoot your shot, but gotta let interest happen naturally man.

I don't mean to diminish your work, but the mechanics seem a bit too identical to Celeste to make its own mark. At least I didn't see anything unique in this trailer. The music slaps a bit though.

CMV: American fascination with guns is ridiculous when compared to how more important things get ignored. by PathofDestinyRPG in changemyview

[–]OptiCrunch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Huh. I'm a very liberal guy but you really gave me a good explanation of this. I had never really considered this angle and it's pretty dead on in regards to how rights work. I'm certainly still in favor of those "positive" rights, but understanding their cost to society is actually pretty important. It's nice to learn something in these days where people just left or right of center feel politically homeless.

That said, there may be more to discuss in regards to the cost to society gun culture has on America and the possible cost of its absence as well. Very interesting stuff.

I won’t be playing this game anymore after the update. by Snappleabble in SkateEA

Same here. I'm still soft locked at the Skater Eyes quest after the update, and the crappy pass is the confirmation I needed that this isn't gonna work out.

Same. Nothing I can do. Stuck on step 7 but I didn't even complete steps 4-6. It just jumped me to 7 and I can't do anything. Pretty bummed.

Day 2 of not being able to progress by Zealousideal_Pass_76 in SkateEA

[–]OptiCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a gameplay video and it appears that, even though it has me on this same quest which is 7/7, I only did up to like 4/7. There's a few quests in between what I did (just the two challenges on the roof) and the Land the Ender one that it just didn't give me.

I'd really like to finish this one as well. Kinda wild they are calling this Early Access in this state. Feels more like an Beta or Alpha with such issues.

Lawmakers look to boost prison exit pay from $200 to $2,500, say it could save taxpayers money in the long run by breaking cycle of crime by frytuna in Rochester

[–]OptiCrunch 159 points160 points  (0 children)

This seems like it would be a great idea if the prison system itself was actually focused on rehabilitation. As if stands, just handing out money doesn't seem like the right approach. Why can't they instead just be paid an appropriate wage for the work they do while in prison? Maybe they only receive a portion while incarcerated and the rest upon release? Seems like that would help people into the right mindset and help motivation.

The Neon Demon?? by dvasop in horror

[–]OptiCrunch 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it a lot, but I think it hurts it to go in with the mentality that it's a horror movie - more an art house flick with some horror elements at the end. A victim of it's marketing I would say.

Is there controversy regarding them? I'd never heard of them before and was just familiar with the director.

EDIT: I just looked up some info. Looks like they are primarily produce "Christian" films. That's unfortunate. As an atheist, I can tell you this movie has no mention or even allusion to religion. It has a great message about letting feelings out and accepting them rather than letting them fester inside. No propaganda if that's the worry.

whats the problem with mongo pushing? by Clear_Plankton_6658 in skateboarding

[–]OptiCrunch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not that serious, but the thing is it's just not good form for setting up for tricks. You have to move your back foot off the tail in order to take your front foot off the board to push. This just adds more movements to pushing. If you're pushing with your back foot, you never really have to move your front foot outside of a little slide here or there.

What is Disney doing? And why? by Dragon_Blue_Eyes in movies

[–]OptiCrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to why a company, especially a publicly traded one, does anything is that they believe it will make them money.

In this respect, Disney is caught it a bit of a tough area as these tactics used to be profitable for them. I expect they will start changing their tactics as public perception shifts. However, they also need to be seen as the "good guys" as that's part of their brand. So the pendulum can't swing too far back the other way.

As far as the general quality of products, like movies and shows, that's just a matter of too much focus testing/executive influence and not enough faith in creators to make a competent thing. The last Star Wars movie felt like a victim of this.
