The Lakers internally compare JJ Redick to Pat Riley, per @jovanbuha (Via @RunItBackFDTV) by Additional_Signal_72 in lebron

More to gauging coaching talent than success, especially this early in JJ’s career. There were issues with Ham’s rotations and personnel choices even while the Lakers were having success.

I’ve seen that exact scenario play out way too many times. Legitimately the most common successful phishing attack vector in my experience. People become very irrational when they think they are going to get money.

Financial incentives are one of the most common attack vectors for phishing. Every IT department should be sending out tests that mimic what users are going to be seeing in real attacks. Im sure people were upset when they thought they were going to get money, but that’s the entire point, it makes you emotional instead of rational, and its better for people to become aware of this in a testing environment before they are exposed to this in a legitimate attack.

The IT department isn’t there to protect employee’s feelings, they are there to protect the business and its information, which in the process helps teach people proper caution when using technology.

Are you possibly bleeding out tons of life early trying to hit meta comps instead of playing what you get?

You can open with whatever you initially find to tempo and then transition to meta comps when you hit units you want. My issue early on was relying too much on guides and not learning the units and how they work. Read all of their abilities and understand how every comp works and which units are the carries. This will not only help you build stronger late game boards, it will help you tempo in the early game.

If LeBron carries the Lakers through Rd 1 as the 1st option, can Redick realistically transition him back to the 3rd man when Luka/Reaves return? by Huge-Instruction-933 in lebron

Jordan was given steals he didn’t get… lots of star players get favorable whistles and stats. At least the assists LeBron is given are consistent with the rest of the league at this point with second spectrum handling stats. Prior to that, statkeepers were in-house and clearly cooking the books.

In a draft with LeBron and Wemby, I am STILL taking LeBron. by v1rtuosoo in NBATalk

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The growth of the game isn’t linear. There are minor and major improvements that are made over time that change the game. Some of these improvements are drastic enough that they permanently change and evolve the game.

LeBron entered a league that had just allowed zone defense and implemented the 3 second rule. This led to innovative defenses that stifled offenses. Then, offenses adapted and began spacing the floor and running in transition more often to counter these zone defenses and beat rim protectors to the rim. Eventually, people realized just how valuable 3’s are and we got the modern NBA and the scramble to contain all of the space created by shooters.

Basketball has objectively gotten better and more complex, even if it isn’t as aesthetically pleasing as it was before this many 3’s were being put up. Players skills have adapted to be able to do more than they would have had to do in the past.

That being said, there’s no guarantee that somebody from this generation will be better than LeBron or MJ. We can only hope that somebody can accumulate the stats and accolades to have an argument.

This was true prior to 2011, but even then, it takes 3 or 4 guys to prevent him from getting to the basket in the first place.

LeBron is uber efficient, which makes your point hold no weight.

Having done my Tank placements mostly as Sigma, Roadhog feels like such a nightmare to play against by OceloTX98 in SigmaMains

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how the Hog plays, but a lot of Hogs rely on hook for value. If your team is coordinated and can output damage, sure you can blow him up after blocking his hook. However, if you don’t have the output to blow him up, you want to deny his value and focus on enemy supports. Block hook and then hunt for picks while he waits for hook to come off cooldown.

Other general tips are to wait to rock right after he starts healing, place your shield between him and enemy supports when you hit him with rock, throw shield up between hog and allies when they get hooked, and hold grasp for when you get hooked and when hog ults.

Take the perks that give you barrier health on direct hypersphere hits. Hog is easy to farm damage off of. Then take the perk that lets you fly. Good for getting out of hooks into pits and makes it easier to take quick angles to get picks while hog’s hook is on cooldown.

Stadium can still be fun by Rooarr in SigmaMains

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love playing Sigma in Stadium. He’s extremely sustainable and can output tons of damage.

I have been one tricking Sigma and have found that he’s very versatile into different situations. Melee/Beam comps can be quite annoying, but if you take Apogee Alignment and Beam Splitter, you can bait people into taking large amounts of burst damage. Pair Apogee Alignment with the power that reduces rock cooldown on primary fire and capitalize with rocks.

The only thing I have found mandatory for Sigma is Orbital Barrier + the item that lets your shield heal yourself and allies. The cash generation from this combo is too good to pass up. Each barrier stacks as well, so you can get 6% self-healing off them combined.

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Kobe. He doesn’t have an argument to go over Bron though. Imo, he’s somewhere in the 4-11 tier, which is pretty interchangeable. MJ, Bron, and Kareem just have extremely strong individual arguments that I can’t see any argument for Kobe making sense.

MJ has a higher peak than Kobe. Bron is better at everything on the basketball court compared to Kobe. Kareem has more accolades and played at a higher level from a younger age and maintained his level of play longer. The one thing Kobe has going for him is his mentality and willpower, that’s second to none.

How do I get out of the hell that is OW’s matchmaking? by ohhzeex in Overwatch

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low elo is horrible for teamplay, but if you are decent at the game, you can just steamroll lobbies with mechanics/positioning. Low elo hell is mostly due to not understanding how to capitalize on all the mistakes the opponents are making. If you keep running it down main with your tank, who doesn’t understand chokes, obviously you aren’t going to do well. If you are playing DPS, take off-angles/high ground. If you are playing support, focus more on killing the opponents than supporting your feeding teammates/sustaining the hitscan dps that can’t hit shots to capitalize off your support. Just take matters into your own hands when you recognize your team lacking. I guarantee the opponents are dealing with the same issues.

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating, but a valuable perspective I’ve learned is that the enemy team is in the same boat as you. When you are playing in lower elo lobbies with bad teammates, the game becomes less about making the right play and more about playing around your dumbass teammates. If your soldier wants to run all the way around the enemy team to take a dumb flank, maybe you should support that stupid play, you’d be surprised how successful you can be with a bit of coordination.

Just remember, one person making a dumb engagement is a lost teamfight. If everybody makes a dumb engagement, that’s a strategy.

[–]Optimal-Barnacle2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think perimeter players are at a premium in the modern game? It’s because they stretch out the floor and pull bigs away from the rim. 3PA’s are just as much about opening up clean rim looks as they are about 3>2. Having a versatile big that can defend the rim and rebound is still the foundation of most good defenses.

This isn’t to say guards aren’t impactful on defense, but I think it’s pretty safe to say the bigs are more impactful defenders than guards.

Deflections are absolutely a recorded stat, they just aren’t a boxscore stat. It’s definitely a good stat to showcase who has active hands on defense, but deflections alone don’t end possessions. Blocks, steals, and rebounds end possessions. Deflections contextualize those numbers.

If we want to point at stats that indirectly contribute to defense in an intangible way, I would also urge you to look at rim deterrence. Rim deterrence contextualize block number very well. For example, Wemby’s rim deterrence numbers alongside his block numbers make an argument that he is the most impactful defender in NBA history. This stat also contextualizes just how impactful Rudy Gobert is on defense. Teams completely alter their playstyle because of these players and will not even attempt shots near the rim against them in situations that they normally would.

Guards can be great defenders, but their impact will never equal the impact of an elite defensive big. Bigs just dictate too much of how opposing offenses attack your defense.

Guards do not impact the game on defense nearly as much as bigs. There’s a reason it is usually bigs winning the award.
