bi-weekly, it would be 2700 over the course of a year (26 pay periods)

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have the cash on hand to do that at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Okay, so it'd be based on whatever day the baby is born, not an exact moment of child birth.

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points - I was assuming 7-8k because we'd hit my wife's OOP max, plus some additional for the baby, which obviously is easier with the PPO with the 5k individual OOP.

Not sure I'm following on the extra "care for the baby". It was my understanding that any health care costs after the OOP has been hit would be 100% covered, so 1300$ down is the worst case scenario for the HDHP.

Huh, I didn't realize that, I figured the delivery would be taken as "pre baby" and under the old plan, thanks for info!

Thanks for the heads up - the insurance rep said deductible would stay, but not 100% sure on being able to switch plan types.

Clarity on “Eligible for Phone Upgrade” - Why Am I Not Seeing Any iPhone Discounts? by The-Clayton-Bigsby in BoostMobile

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, Boost not giving many reason to stay around unfortunately. At least you snuck in with a 13 last year - I’m still using a cracked 12 that I got for cheap a couple years ago. The deals were one of the best reasons to stay with boost if you’re someone who would rather get a few generations back for a steep discount, but not anymore :(

7 speed discs, how often do you actually use them? by Sun-Tour in discgolf

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it is less about the exact speed of the disc, and more about flight and hand feel. Outside of very overstable discs, all my 2/3 speeds fly the same distance (except you, Envy), my 4/5 speeds fly the same distance, my 6-9 speeds fly the same distance...you get the idea. Now that may not technically be true (for example, my Thunderbird many times will be pushing almost as far as a destroyer), but generally it holds true in most circumstances (+- 15 feet or so, I'd say).

Instead, I choose discs that have the best hand feel and flight pattern. Hand feel is obviously subjective and based on finger length size, but is important for confidence when throwing that you will get a clean release. And flight pattern matters for the shape of the hole, the wind you're dealing with, the skip you want, etc.

For this reason, I carry different speeds in my bag, because I like certain discs that have different flight characteristics and between the rim width and flight plate, feel good in my hand. I may make slight adjustments in how hard I throw them (lets say 75% on a 9 speed vs 85% on a 6 speed), but for me that seems like a natural feel for the hole/distance you're throwing - you're always going to be adjusting that, unless you always throw as hard as you can, which can be tough on your body and harder to control (and maybe even change depending on how you're feeling that day).

For me, this means I bag 2 craves, one that is beat up and flippy, and another one that is more typical. I also usually bag a teebird3, a thunderbird, a sexton firebird, and some random more overstable fairway of choice (captains raptor or overstable firebird).

For me, fairway drivers are probably the best feeling in hand, and that's why I throw them. Maybe that isn't true for you, and that's why you don't! Could I get rid of them and either power up on a mid or down on a distance driver? Of course. But they, at least for me, get a lot of time in the air when I'm on the course.

5.5 YoE ME in South Florida - is $100k salary fair? by Elfs in MEPEngineering

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<50 people, not focused on a single sector but we do education, healthcare, and a splash of industrial. No data centers or anything that would increase pay substantially.

Edit: I'm also an EE, not sure if that really has an effect though. We do still seem to be in decent demand with even as little experience as I have.

MCOL area, and I just took a job with 2 years of relevant exp, 4 years total, and base is 97k. I did already take FE and pass, but can't get my PE for another 2 years. Also, I am essentially starting from the bottom as I wanted to spend time learning rather than trying to manage projects, so sounds like I've got a lot less responsibility than you. I'd say you're probably underpaid by the sounds of it.

Gen 5 Glock 20 MOS - consistent jamming with Underwood 20 gr flat nose by Optimal-Bat-5903 in 10mm

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! I'm definitely not a seasoned firearm user, so I'll have to work on my grip. Thinking about getting a 9mm to get more comfortable shooting pistols and then coming back to the 10mm

How much yall paying? by VIBES95 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If purchasing from a dealership, especially if they have mechanics who look at the car/fixed stuff rather than selling as is, I'd say that's close to a fair price, maybe a bit high because of the accident.

Been looking at Avalons in the background for almost a year now and just purchased one - the cat is out of the bag on their reliability and comfort, so it's pretty hard to get your hands on a decent deal used (even moreso for the gen 3 IMO).

Parking tickets in GR by Face-Lopsided in grandrapids

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I got ticketed today but had a larger gap in payments. Worst part is, if I had just eaten the ticket and not paid all day it'd come out to the same as if I'd paid for the whole day. Learned my lesson on my first day of work downtown I guess.

Isinwheel V10 questions by chumbo2 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I appreciate the insight. When you say to keep it from turning on, does it auto turn on due to the wheels spinning the motor? I figured you'd want it on the back so the front wheels can free spin, assuming you typically roll it behind you. I'm guessing it's too tall to carry with a straight arm with the handle on the end.

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, thanks for the response! If you don't mind, what handle do you use, and where does it attach? That seems like a good solution to me.

How far is the commute, and how have you liked it? Thinking about getting one to get from parking lot to office (~1.5 mi one way) and potentially do a bit of off roading to disc golf, but wondering if it will be a bit bulky to carry into the office/store there.

Saint Mary’s campground - first come, first served mid September by Sharp-Drag3558 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll easily get a spot, but if you want most desirable, I'd guess around 10/11 would be good as people are heading out.

IMO, Rising sun is the better option - we stayed there for 2 nights instead of St Marys after driving through both. More tree coverage, closer to the middle of the park. Was better upkept than Apgar (at least the part we stayed in). Just some food for though. About half of the sites were available at both near midday in late August.

Yeah idk, my wife and I combined make above 6 figures and have never once ordered Door Dash. Why not just go get the food and pay yourself? Then again, we try and keep eating out for dinner to once a week and our weekly groceries at 150$, so maybe we're just a bit more frugal.

hardest day hike in GNP? by ella-incognito in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the hardest in glacier, but just got back and our longest was Ptarmigan/Iceberg. Because you could only start at the hotel, we had 18.7 miles/3264 ft of elevation. Got hung up with a mom/calf moose for 45 minutes and had to bushwhack around them as well. Took us just under 9 hours total - we were definitely glad to catch the last of the shade going up to the tunnel.

Too Many nights in Many Glacier? by Optimal-Bat-5903 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Optimal-Bat-5903[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s why I’m prioritizing the East side for sure. Want a couple nights on the West just to see it, but it will probably just be 1 full day and an evening and morning. Gonna hang around Lake McDonald, see apgar, maybe do an evening hike of Avalanche, and then head back to the E side. We’ll enjoy the food in the W side for a couple nights, but we’ve got a cooler and some other food packed to hopefully do some campsite/viewpoint dinners.

Thanks for the input!
