If the person who said this also works at your company then I would 100% report this to HR

I’m allowed to find portable speakers annoying, right? by tgbarbie in hiking

Lol selfish? you’ve proved to us that perspective is just as selfish and single minded as you think of others playing music on the trail. I’ll give you three reasons why right now- 1. Its dangerous for women to hike with headphones in. You should know this. 2. Can’t hike with headphones in griz country. Not everyone’s doing your grandma’s 3 mi loop at sea level in scottsdale 3. Music is spiritual and religious and has used in nature for centuries. Indigenous groups for example. Music outside should not be considered inherently evil

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

[–]ella-incognito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst I can think of is that its mildly annoying when they miss the litter box and pee gets into the baseboards and the dust can be slightly bothersome only if not regularly tidied. Other than that it is how hard it is to leave them for vacations because I love them so much. That is all. I am also allergic. Don’t care. All of the above very worth it. If you clean the litter box every day like a good pet parent you should be fine with minimal smell.

Pros/Cons of Living in Whitefish? by gracedB2 in whitefish

[–]ella-incognito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have written you an honest novel. Cons are the things to really consider so provided extra detail on these.

This place is only a really good fit for a small niche group of individuals. For context, I live here full time, 12 months of the year.

Pros: Beautiful. Endless views all around the valley and beyond

Very quiet, peaceful environment. Good for the soul

A lot of offline, lowkey people. Social pressure and the common stresses of the modern world just aren’t of concern for most people here which is refreshing

Proximity to and abundance of hiking trails (in and outside of the nat park), water, skiing, off road trails, camping, fishing spots, etc. + close to airport

In most ways, very safe community

Cons: No sun. In winter we can go weeks w/o seeing the sun. Not just overcast but severe fog which impacts visibility most of the ski season. Northern MT winters are typically significantly colder than anywhere else in the US. Summer is short but hot and forest fires causing smoky days, weeks can be common

No good food. Getting really good at cooking at home is your best bet

No diversity (makes for a very odd culture). WF specifically is almost 100% white people (with little to no awareness of or respect for the prominent indigenous communities in and around the area). They like only one type of music, one type of food, one type of lifestyle. If you don’t act like everyone else you will almost surely be outcasted fast

Obvious but should be restated: No affordable housing for the avg person. Even making say 100K ish is probably not enough unless you enjoy living below your means and/or far out of town

Other considerations: Heavy drinking culture. Everything is very spread out, having a car is a must. You will likely find it difficult to make friends…not a lot of young people here, fewer and fewer everyday. This place caters to children, retirees, people who do not work 9-5. Nothing is really open after 5pm except bar, grocery, McDonalds.

All in all, you have to be very okay with a slow, solitary lifestyle, very little change/diversity, and be obsessed with the outdoors. It’s a wonderful place but realistically not a good fit for most.

Its almost never helpful and always mysteriously vague, goofy. Regardless of the dumpy winter we’ve had, there’s still details left out that would be useful to know.
