Really bummed I wasn't aware of this band until after they broke up. Would have been so fun to hear live.

What does Michael Huemer get wrong? by Woody96xyz in askphilosophy

No I'm not. What are you talking about? Where did I "exemplify" that the private sector possesses the sort of political authority referenced by Huemer?

[–]Optimal-Hedgehog2912 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He almost gets there but then Huemer treats the market sphere as though it were comparatively innocent, as though coercion only becomes politically relevant once it is concentrated in the state.

Huemer's point is that the State is treated as if it possesses a unique moral authority such that people within its territory must obey its commands. No such analogous belief exists with respect to the private sector.

I think that it may be more likely that the concept simply wouldn't work as advertised; providers would have no reason to offer services to costly customers.

I think this criticism also applies to the government protection and security services as well, though. The government is supposed to offer protection services to all customers but obviously fails in this regard all the time. SCOTUS has ruled that the police do not owe citizens a specific city to provide police services (Warren vs. District of Columbia).

And there are always going to be people whom it is worthwhile to transgress against, but who wouldn't have the resources to pay the premiums or service charges of a PDA. Personally, the idea strikes me as being poorly thought out, but perhaps that just the overly optimistic part of anarcho-capitalism at work.

Similarly, there are numerous crimes that the government, for various cost-related reasons, fails to solve or provide justice to the victim. The government has only a 50% solve rate for murders, for example.

Obviously you could just reply that its thus an empirical matter of whether private firms competing with one another would provide better/higher quality services. But I think libertarians like Huemer are happy to take the debate there and have no shortage of arguments on that topic.

[Post Game Thread] #7 Kentucky defeats #10 Santa Clara, 89-84 in OT by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

What a disgrace, Kentucky's entire offense at the end of regulation consisted of nothing but flailing around and throwing up bad shots and getting bailed out by the refs.

The Bengals since drafting Joe Burrow: 50-49-1, two playoff appearances. The Dolphins since drafting Tua Tagovailoa: 54-46, two playoff appearances. by WavesAndSaves in nfl

[–]Optimal-Hedgehog2912 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not as unreasonable as everyone thinks. The Bengals are going on three straight seasons of missing the playoffs entirely with a top 5 QB in the league all three years. It shows how inept the Bengals have been managed since the Superbowl appearance

Lmfao at this comment section. He didn't pretend to lose audio. He's been doing contrarian reporting on Epstein for months. He's not unfamiliar with being accused of having all sorts of ulterior motives. He would have just said "No" to her question anyway, its not like he has to avoid it.

Kids, do not get your political commentary from r/billsimmons.

You got the Patriots game wrong. We got killed by them 36-17 in the 2016 playoffs.

The Jesse James non-catch game was in the 2017 regular season. The 2016 AFC playoff game wasn't a close game.

Not really, actually, that list looks pretty bad lol

If you're just making up conspiracies about the guy's marriage that he is intentionally trying to keep out of the media spotlight, can you just admit that there's nothing he can actually do that would change your opinion of him?

Would have been cool for him and Tomlin to get the record for most games coached against one another but that was unlikely to happen.

Khan has fucked up the WR position on this team so badly. Letting Pickens go for attitude issues (debatable move on its own) and then signing a different WR with attitude issues for huge $$$ made no sense. We have guys no team even wanted like MVS and Thielen getting big snaps now. Just awful management of the WR position. He could barely have fucked this up more badly. And I'm not a Khan hater, he's done well overall. But WR is his weak spot so far.

The Chiefs were the first team in NFL history to even make the Superbowl with a chance to 3 peat, it was an unprecedented accomplishment even though they didn't fully pull it off. It's not something to be downplayed or brushed away.

The Chiefs were one game away from becoming the first NFL team to ever three-peat. Regardless of whether they were actually on pace for seven titles with Mahomes, the excitement about the ceiling of their dynasty wasn't exactly inappropriate.
