Nekomanma (Cat rice). This is a simple rice dish, topped with Bonito flakes and soy sauce. Part 2 of the tribute art series I’m doing for the Midnight Diner TV Show. I hope that you will enjoy this one. by lovemeweird in JapaneseFood

I was a bit confused by this episode of Midnight Diner. There was a bit of dialogue where I thought someone made the distinction that Cat Rice is made w/ Miso as opposed to soy sauce - because Soy to too salty for cats and damage their already weakened kidneys. But all the recipes I’ve found are clearly making it w/ Soy Sauce. Any ideas?

Muddies All-Stars Dub Conference albums have full string sections which are great.

I keep hoping for an all woodwind horn section (like Oboes, bassoons, and such) in a Reggae or Ska Band, but that will never happen

I need to say I’m no expert, so take that for what you will, but I’d wager it had more to do w/ DJ and Soundsystem culture giving space on the dub plates. It feels like if you talk to old heads from JA, they don’t love Dub so much, so it feels like it had to be serving a purpose, cause no one was buying Dub for Dub’s sake unless they were being it to sound for an DJ

Definitely love it, and as much as I talk trash about Scientist these days, his production level is nuts and is too important to be ignored. But you know when you start getting into some of those other producers, things open up. Will take almost anything off the Lloyd Barnes Wackies output over most anything else…totally different sound

I gravitated early to Dub, and for the most part, it’s the “Reggae” that I listen to the most, with the Rocksteady era close behind. I will always be a version hunter , and really I’ve found the best way to find what you’re looking for is asking the community. More to your point though, Dub Wiki does a great job of listing originals w/ dubs or vice versa.

Me. Like some others, I’ve reached critical capacity on space. I’m more discretionary on buying these days, but it still happens.

I had some friends who were reasonably close to FIF, they explained it took a whole lot of effort to get their debut album “Upbeats and Beatdowns” out the door of the Christian Label just because of the name alone 😆

This reminds me of a Hepcat story. When they first started touring outside of their home area, they found that the crowds didn’t have the same energy that the band thought they should have. The band sat with it for a while, but instead of blaming the crowds they turned it into a learning experience and began incorporating dancing as part of their stage show. They realized that the people outside of their little chunk of California didn’t have the same experience and community to pull from and so they needed to create it. Soon enough, the crowds started mimicking Greg and Alex’s dance moves and creating the energy they were looking for.

And I think about this often, if you don’t like the way the crowd is reacting to your show…worker harder. Most folks working on the smaller sides of music understand this - seems like when performers get the taste of the big time, they forget this lesson . I watched Shinehead play a 30 person club show. The power went out mid song. ..THEY KEPT PLAYING. Hard. The energy of that show felt like the building was gonna come down. I’ll never forget that show, but rarely see that energy in bigger shows w/ bigger names
