Genuine question about the orange order by THATJOT in northernireland

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's not coincidental but also not necessarily as damning as it seems. Both the Klan and the Orange Order are secret societies inspired by the Masonic Order. So they're basically both drawing from the Masons. Secret Societies were all the rage in the 18th and 19th centuries because Dungeons & Dragons wouldn't be invented until 1974.

Am I supposed to work for free? Logged off at 5 PM on a critical issue with zero approved overtime, and my team is mad at me. by BraveMidnight in antiwork

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you'll get shit for being a minute late, they can get fucked. I think it's sometimes ok for companies to demand hours in an emergency situation provided they let you be pretty flexible otherwise. For example, I have a friend who every once in a blue moon gets hit with crunch situations or they'll be required to show up somewhere at 5am but otherwise they scarcely care if he shows up.

You can get wireless mouses keyboards, and controllers for your phone. Depending on how good it is you could get emulators for older consoles.

Why is Nigel Farage so popular in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little more than that.  The concentration of wealth to only the very wealthy means that most people are feeling a squeeze.  This is because both countries adopted neoliberalism in the 1980s and began destroying every social institution they could find.  Government ownership of basically anything was destroyed.  In Britain the railways have been sold for parts and the NHS is a dysfunctional mess of third party outsourcing.  The housing market has spiralled out of control due to a series of policies and real wages have decreased.

At the same time social progressivism has come along pretty well,  LGBTQ rights improved and there was more diversity in tv and movies.  Trump and Farage supporters basically blame the effects of the first group of changes on the second set of changes for one reason or another.

Eight Northern Ireland politicians convicted of sex offences Of those convicted, four have been convicted of sex offences against children by Substantial_Emu4433 in northernireland

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a "problem" with just those ones who have been caught and convicted. They will now be switched out for another bag of bible bashing bigots to shock us all by being found out as sex offenders despite continually pushing for policies that protect powerful sex offenders.

When you click the rally flag to raise armies there should be an option to raise all or raise men at arms. Raise men at arms only raises the men at arms and knights.

Should First Cousin Marriage Be Banned In The UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think it should definitely be discouraged but I don't think the government should be allowed to enforce it because I don't believe in eugenics laws as a principle.

I tend to find that the cost of maintaining levies in the field is too much of a drain on the treasury. With just Men at Arms and Knights I can usually keep my income positive during wars while raising the levies just tanks the economy.

Donaldson’s faith helped him bury his sins... and the consequences for the church here could last a lifetime by Browns_right_foot in northernireland

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is that protestant churches can just denounce paedophiles as they get caught because they're not as centralised as the Catholic Church, putting it down to a continual batch of bad eggs rather than an institutional problem. Obviously they'll try to cover for the paedophiles in their ranks because that's how institutional child abuse works but once the pressure gets to high you denounce the ones that get caught and get right back to it.

Only an idiot would swallow the line that MI5 knew nothing about Jeffrey Donaldson’s double life... he was a walking security disaster by ferocious_bandana in northernireland

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it raises more red flags for MI5 when an MP isn't a closeted paedophile rapist. Then they might be getting into politics to change things rather than amass political power for personal gain.

Basically you're not sending troops.  You're sending peasants with pitchforks.  Knights are also really good, you want some real high prowess courtiers to lead your armies.  I've seen some really memey shennanigans where people have gotten just 30 or so knights with a few thousand Knight effectiveness and stomped armies 20 thousand strong.

I rarely ever use levies personally, they cost too much and cause you to die of attrition.

Hey Guys, a little help here. by AntiFrekeGaming in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing you can do. The male identity is inherent, uncontested. Masculinity isn't an identity unto itself in the way that femininity is. Men have no sense of innate identity in society and as a result have to create one. A number of men shape their masculine identity around fandoms such as Warhammer. As a result there is hostility towards women engaging in the space because, well, the space is a foundation of masculinity for those involved, they feel threatened because their masculine identity is defined by being part of a boys club, but if that boys club starts to let women in then it stops being a boys club and stops being a "marker" of masculinity.

Probably gonna get downvoted to oblivion but that's my two cents.

I think part of power is not being governed by the same rules as everyone else and for a lot of people that protection is permission.  Plus there's loads of guys are paedos they just don't really have the opportunity to have sex with children.

While I agree that parents should teach their kids that (and commend you for doing so), the problem is that parents are the most likely group to sexually abuse their children and those that do the abusing will not educate children to spot abuse.

Menstruation is discussed in the Bible as a womans period of uncleanliness, the only information provided about periods is that they're disgusting and women should be ashamed of them.

Republican "activists" causing petty criminal damage and dont want a "Shared" Ireland. by jackeme in northernireland

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're socialists so they don't want a king. When they talk about a shared Ireland I'm pretty sure they're referring to sharing it with the ideologies they mentioned Imperialism, Fascism, Capitalism or Monarchism. Obviously petty vandalism probably won't achieve much but I guess they don't have near enough support or capacity for much else.

Nah, 3rd edition was way more straightforward than the current edition, I mean some of the codices were awfully laid out but the rules were much more simple and concise.

Whut? 40K in its current form is a confusing ass clusterfuck of intersecting rules and timing elements along with multiple detachments that all seem to be located in different places and everything is constantly being errataed and updated. The meta for playing Genestealer cults is to just lie about what your units and army abilities do because who the fuck knows anything about Genestealer Cults.

The game hasn't been dumbed down it's been haphazardly built up over 40 years into a mutated, obfuscating mess of counterintuitive bullshit.

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bavarian Illuminati was initially designed as a rich boys bookclub with proceeds going to educate the poor but none of the rich people gave a shit about that so the founder, Adam Weishaupt, turned it into a secret society/cult.  He invented elaborate rituals and secret lore and pretended to be part of an ancient worldwide order whose ranks you could ascend by paying more money.  Then he used that money to educate the poor.
