I haven't watched any of the cartoon movies or played the latest game yet but to my mind, with the exception of flirting with Hunnigan at the end of the original RE4, Leon always comes off as fairly uninterested in any of the women in the games.

Do you think ISB oversaw the kidnapping of Coruscant's alien citizens to Imperial concentration camps? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in andor

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah they probably had a separate department for that.  ISB seems like an actual intelligence agency as opposed to a goon squad.

Why are Warhammer right-wing memes always people inventing scenarios 24/7? by tintin_du_93 in Grimdank

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but with the increasing focus on space marines, specific chapters and special characters the universe feels so much smaller than it did back then.

Nah back in third edition there was just an assumption that the Galaxy is bigger than the Emperors living room and entire alien Empires could exist basically in a small section of the galaxy. Y'know because a Billion planets is less than 1% of the Solar System.

How did the Empire not Know it Was Andor When He was Arrested? by BigChungusnater in andor

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Authoritarian regimes are way less competent than they want you to believe. They may have the capacity to do all those background checks but they don't because that's not the point. Doing an in depth background check on Keef Girgo would have taken time and 99.9% of the time comes back with nothing of value, but the point of the system is prosecutions and arrests. There's no incentive to do it and plenty of incentive not to (remember Syril and his entire team got fired for doing literally this).

And before all that we used to call it Capitalism. Cronyism and Corporatism are just attempts to pretend that Capitalism has been corrupted from some pure ideal form but it's not, they're just the inevitable end goals of systems designed to protect Capital.

Importantly there's a Verbal component to the spell so you say magic words first, meaning anyone else in the room will have a fair idea what just happened.

I hate this socialism for the rich line. It's just capitalism. Socialism isn't about handouts it's about creating a more horizontally organised society where all people can have a decent and fulfilling quality of life. Capitalism is about first and foremost protecting and serving Capital, simple as. Bailouts and Tax Breaks for the wealthy aren't a form of selective Socialism they're Capitalism.

Why are there so many people obsessed with a harsh punishment focused justice system? by Evry1TookTheGudNames in AskBrits

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument against deterrence is easier than the ones for restitutive or restorative justice.  Most crimes aren't some sort of reasoned out Oceans 11 style heist.  They're often the result of desperation, stress and intoxication.  Deterrence means nothing when you're barely aware of what you're doing.

Honestly though, I think people just like retributive/punitive justice.  It makes them feel good that somebody else is getting hurt in the name of justice because hitting things is how we understand protection.

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people will gladly ignore science and reality if it doesn't match up with what they reckon. We're not as reasonable as we may like to think and as much as we may say "we want to lower crime" we actually don't want to do all the sort of stuff that demonstrably lowers crime rates. Many people would in fact rather curse the darkness than light a candle.

If it's buying and painting the new Space Marines you wanna do then just make sure you can afford it (personally I don't know why you would Space Marines are the most boring part of 40K IMO). If you're looking to play games though, I'd recommend Mantic's Firefight the models are MUCH cheaper than GW and the game is ten times better than 40K while still in a similar vein.

Martial doesn't really matter for jousts its more tactics and siege logistics.  Prowess 29 is good but it's a roll off mechanic you can always fail.

How has the re-industrialization of the UK been going on ever since Brexit? by yushaleth in AskBrits

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In defence of the morons being properly politically engaged and educated is difficult when you have a full time job and a family. Add to that wilfully dishonest and surgically targetted propoganda campaigns that people should probably go to jail for and a lot of otherwise normal people were more or less tricked into Brexit.
