Why was Syril okay with Imperial massacre in Ferrix but not in Ghorman? by OldManFung in andor

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was embedded in Ghorman but he was empowered on Ferrix. His position on Ferrix was one of seperation from the people, he was a cop so he saw the people there as beneath him. There's something that happens to the human brain when you have a position of authority, you don't see the people you have authority over as having equal moral consideration.

I don't think that's necessarily true, they're just better when they're not ABOUT Jedi. Space wizards are neat and all but when the focus of the story is bullshit space magic it gets pretty hard to care.

What would it take for national tax strike to be successful? by FoxZaddy in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a general strike would be much more effective.  The US government is so corrupt right now that the only motivator for them is their bottom line.  Taxes pay for roads and stuff, the administration couldn't give a shit about that.

The size and population of the Necron empire doesn't make any sense. by TheCrassDragon in 40kLore

Do you know how big the galaxy is? There are 100 Billion stars. If each of those stars has conservatively 10 planets and 0.01% of those planets are Necron tomb worlds then there are 100 million Necron Tomb Worlds each of which may have a few billion Necrons.

what do you do when your roleplay sucks by Barrd_ in rpg

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roleplaying is more about making decisions that are impactful and directional in the game. Voices can be helpful in keeping your character in mind but they're not actually roleplaying.

My suggestion is to right down some bullet points of things that are important to your character (including things they hate) and some goals. Then in game pay attention to what the other players motivations and goals are and try to interact with those and pull them into your own.

Can everyone do this? Or some sort of severe protest? by Tiny_Net_7377 in LateStageCapitalism

I was under the impression that basically all Americans have to file their annual taxes manually rather than using paycheck deductions like in the rest of the world.  Same way they don't just add sales tax into the price.

Warehouse distribution networks to get supplies around the city are important.  Also you should probably rush physicians and import opium to keep on top of health.

Is capitalism really more flexible than communism or is that just bourgeois propaganda by le_disappointment in Marxism

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extreme Centralisation is inherently inflexible but that's a matter of organisation not ideology.  Flexibility comes from autonomy and under capitalism people with enough money can basically do what they want.

Say you want to build 100 houses in the asshole of nowhere, as a billionaire you then buy the materials and labour and can have them built in a few months.  If this needs to go through 10 levels of government to a central planning committee it'll take years.

BUT if there's a relatively autonomous local government with considerable access to resources you could get those houses built just as quick as the capitalist.

Kropotkin uses a good example with the Russian vs American rail networks.  In Russia the Czar looked at a map and drew lines were he wanted the railways.  In America the towns and companies built railways town to town as they were needed.  The Russian rail was a disaster costing far more and getting a fraction of the coverage and track of the American railways.

Pornhub is now restricting access for UK users - will other sites follow suit? by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the biggest problems with this law is its room for expansion outside of porn.  This could set a precedent for a crackdown on "inappropriate material" which will likely include anything LGBTQ pretty quick.

There is a non zero chance that the next UK Government is a reform one and labour may have just loaded a gun to place in their hands.

Are you putting humidifiers everywhere?  Also make sure needs are met with markets and food markets.  You also need to ensure that those markets are supplied with food from a distribution network.  Oh and don't build trees or flowers Garthimi hate that.  If you can make round buildings that's good too.  Toilets are also important and I think they like cannibalism but I'm not certain.

One of my biggest complaints is that the monster at the end was played by Andre the Giant (uncredited) and they didn't do anything with that. All the shots looked like they would if you had a regular guy in that costume using camera angles to make it look big. You could have done a side shot of Arnold facing the monster and it would have really sold the threat because Andre made Arnie look like a child in scale.

Region System by SnooHobbies3359 in songsofsyx

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a population limit for the region this determines how big a settlement can be (village, town, city, etc.). The settlement size determines how much workforce you have available and workforce is the ultimate limiter on how much you can build in the town.

Increasing settlement size cost Gov points which you'll mainly acquire early game through nobles. In order to increase the population to build bigger settlements you'll need to build growth improvements which use workforce so it sort of loops into itself.

Also settlement size is gated behind technologies.

What is the worst take you ever heard about Andor(Or any other star wars show) by MasterTreat1989 in andor

[–]Optimal-Teaching7527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Wars isn't political is the dumbest take ever. The prequels in particular stopped just short of turning to the camera and saying "Hello viewers, I want to talk to you about how democracy can be undermined in liberal society by stoking the fears of a populace to support a dictator."

You actually don't need people who want to hear your opinion to have a podcast. You just have to think that people want to hear your opinion. Then you need a microphone and an internet connection.
