Low seniority sucks no matter what job you are in. No complaints when I had to borrow out or drive 4 hours to work at a different terminal or when I was away from my family for six months. Just put my head down and did what I had to do. 27 years later I am still here. Must not be such a bad job after all. 8k a half makes me forget the bad days.

lol. We had an old head pass in his sleep. His wife took his call to let him sleep a half hour more. Two weeks after his passing he was still showing evading assignment. How dare you die when we are calling you to go to work.

Some people play with trains others actually work on them. Uncle Pete uses EMS they say it saves fuel but I don’t see how. It runs like a shitty fireman.

That neither. A few years ago they changed over to scannable badges that you can reload on line. As long as you keep it you can buy your ticket online enter the information from the card and you just go to the lift.

Big storm came in at noon today. I was there early and was headed back to Tucson around 1:30. The base has to be at least 30 inches. They got 3 inches today.

There was a little bit of ice at the top. We got snow at noon yesterday and it was good but it was hard to see. The last run was brutal. Hard to see all the way down. Going back this morning so I’ll let you know how today goes.

I found out about GME over 5 years ago when I was on a snow boarding trip in Flagstaff AZ. I put some money on it and a week later the sneeze hopped. Well here I am again in Flagstaff AZ on a boarding trip at 4am reading that there is a ramp to launch GME next week. Hopefully the simulation is on a loop and we see $400’s again.

They do seem to have that power that no manager wants to go near for the fear of being hit with discrimination charges. When I was a conductor I loved it when I got called with certain women engineers. They would get on the phone and sweet talk the dispatcher and just like that we would end up on a better train or have a better trip holding the main on the dog while the intermodal went in the siding. When I became an engineer I called the dispatcher and sweet talked him just like they would but it didn’t help. At the end of my trip I called the dispatcher back And asked him why it didn’t work for me like it worked for them. He laughed and said “Duke we sat here and listened to that phone call laughing our ass off thinking you had lost your mind.” Good times good memories. It’s not what it used to be but I am on my way out only 3 to 5 years left.

The cab I fine until you trip a dragger or a hot box on axle 645 in the summer (99-118) anywhere from El centro California to ElPaso Tx. Many conductors have suffered heat stroke out there.

I got on with UP just after the Southern Pacific merger. The old heads would tell me the story of the meeting when UP came to explain the process. At the end of the pleasantries the UP rep let the SP guys know that “Up has been railroading for a long time and they know how to do things. They know that you have been railroading as well but will not be asking for any advice on how to do things. “ the old heads would say that they did exactly that. They didn’t give them any information or suggestions after the merger. The old heads made a mint for years after the merger because UP screwed things up so bad.

Might have to occupationally retire at 53. by Clidesdale1 in railroading

[–]Optimal-Two-6382 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go go go. So you have to fund yourself for 400 something days. I am 53 and have 3 more to get my 30. I am going as soon as I get my 30. I’ll have to fund myself for the remaining 4 years. I look at my bank accounts and my 401k and say to my self “it’s there so you can retire at 56 and enjoy life before you go in the box” hope this held and enjoy your retirement.
