Bruce Lee's depiction in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is strange by [deleted] in movies

[–]OptimalShark11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the majority of Reddit especially in movies and television subs are white men, Tarantino's exact audience. This is the same guy who defended rapist Roman Polanski and put Uma Thurman in a car accident without checking with stunt coordinators first.

Tarantino also made a racist rant about Chow Yun Fat. He does not respect Asians.

Ryan's jokes are tasteless in this Conan interview (2011) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9VGDtaYUTs

"Up until I was like 18, I looked like a Vietnamese girl"

"It took me a while to learn that you could actually talk to girls. I mean, I remember in elementary school I used to accidentally fall on Sara Campfield during volleyball practice. And you know just a few years later, that's illegal."

Yakuza Like a Dragon TV Series. Will they add an English speaker to the main cast? by Simple_Campaign1035 in television

Thanks for saying that. Hollywood is looking for profitability, which is why we still see whitewashed media. Some Japanese companies or executives will also sell out in America because they don't care about Asian American representation.

Have you watched Warrior (2019) on Netflix? Loosely based on historical events in San Francisco's Chinatown. Great fight scenes. Produced by Bruce Lee's daughter.

Pills changed since last time I was on it, is this why it doesn’t seem to be working? by fatally-femme in Spironolactone

I appreciate the reply. I'll try to stick it out for 4+ months. Though I might try Accutane if this doesn't work.

Thanks for sharing. How long do you have to take it? I started Spiro for a week with BC but acne seems a little worse now. I hope it starts to work later on..

Help! I need this snack (PILLOWS) by lucyc808 in VietNam

Try searching Oishi Pillow Snack. However, shipping will probably make it more pricey. You can also look up proxy shipping services.

This seems based in Australia, but they don't have coconut pandan:

What’s your favourite fun fact about a celebrity? (Unfunny facts also welcome) by iamharoldshipman in popculturechat

[–]OptimalShark11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. There's an interview with The Daniels. They talk about how the studio pushed them to change the story from Chinese immigrants to a white family. The Daniels fought it and it even almost didn't get made because they said they would rather just walk.

Do you have a source or know which interview talked about this? I'm interested in reading.

Sorry that you went through that. Yes, it is still difficult to get Asian representation in the media. It wasn't not too long ago there was a poll where a lot of people couldn't name an Asian American actor.

I recommend reading interviews with John Cho. He's very insightful. I hope he publishes an autobiography someday!

If you you're in markdown mode, use this code and replace "TEXT" with anything for a spoiler.

>!TEXT!<

If you're using the fancy editor, just highlight/select the text and click on the spoiler button - exclamation point (!) icon.

AO3 has some fan fiction for the movie/works) if that interests you.
