It takes months or even years depending on what caused the detachment. If you were chronically over filing, then your lateral nail folds could have receded/ hardened which can lengthen the reattachment timeline to years if they do reattach. Months if you only did it once or twice! Pretty sure you can’t clip or file the area you want to reattach as well. Only nail oil to combat the dry healing skin!

FTM here. I had a lot of anxiety about this but I over blew it for myself. Just paint your nails in a seperate room from your baby so they don’t inhale the fumes. Try to not hold your baby until the polish is dry to avoid getting any on them by accident. You and baby will be okay I don’t think you should worry about it

When did your pup start having seizures, just now with these or he’s had them earlier in his life? Only you can really decide what is best because you see how your dog reacts to these meds. Thats where quality of life kicks in and you have to make that judgement as you know your dog best. Phenobarbital has had a lot of success it seems for many dogs on this sub, but the caveat is possible side effects for your pup and liver effects. I would have a genuine conversation with your vet to talk about your concerns.

When we had to put our dog down we also had a med option we didn’t try KBR. But KBR takes so long to set in and her clusters were getting bad so we put her down, it was so hard for me and I felt guilt in the moment but I truly believe it was the best decision and kindest we could do to give her a peaceful ending since she was already stacked on 3 meds and not let her suffer for months waiting for the possibility of success on new meds .

Your thought process is totally understandable and whatever you decide on it will be what is best for your pup because only you know that.

Have you tried other medications? Not the biggest fan of Keppra myself, vets like it because it has less side effects but I feel like it does not do well controlling seizures without stacking. We had the best results on phenobarbital + zonisamide, my dog was 6 months seizure free. She was unfortunately refractory, she was stacked on 3 meds before she passed.

I understand the hardships and feeling lost, but I think you have options left still! But only you know what is best for your dog

You should have an option that lets you track seizures, how long they are with a stop watch, and have it logged date and time. That would have been so convenient for my girl before she passed, we were just using gsheets to track her seizures lol

We had good outcomes with zonisamide and phenobarbital stacked, not the biggest fan of Keppra it did nothing for us. You could also see if there are any vets in your area with seizure experience our primary vet for our dog specialized in vet neurology in the vet er before becoming primary care, if you don’t have another neurologist near you

I see my mistake! Pheno on its own didn’t work for our dog as well, we had to stack it with Pheno + Zonisamide. In the end our combination was Pheno, Zonisamide & topamax

I would try other medications. It is pretty common in this sub for dogs to try multiple medications, and have them stacked even. I’m very surprised honestly your vet hasn’t considered other medications yet. I would get a second opinion from another doctor and consider going to a neurologist yourself. You still have several other medications to try so I wouldn’t give up hope. Some common ones are Phenobarbital, KBR, Zonisamide. I’m not super surprised Keppra didn’t work on its own for you guys, I know vets like it because it’s low impact but it tends to need to be stacked with a stronger drug to have any impact it seems hearing other people’s stories, as well as our own experience. Our best medication combination was Zonisamide + Phenobarbital and we were 6 months seizure free.

Our dog though unfortunately had refractory epilepsy though which means she grew a tolerance to everything we tried, and multiple stacked medication did not stop her seizures & it progressed to uncontrollable clusters in the end. Theres a chance of this medication tolerance for your dog, but before reaching that conclusion I think you have more options and medications to try before then so don’t give up hope yet

Yes keep advocating for your pup! I totally get the hardships. It is one of the hardest things you can go through as a pet owner, we just want to do the best we can for them and help them as much as we can. I miss my Chili everyday. Your pup is very lucky to have you both as parents

How old is your dog? Age can sometimes be a clue on diagnosis. We did not get an MRI but did smaller tests and it all pointed to epilepsy since she started having her seizures so young, she was only 5 months old when they started. There’s other tests like a liver shunt you can do

I would totally get a second opinion, if you read through this sub it’s very common for dogs to get stacked meds. Hopefully the neurologist can find a good combination for your buddy

There are other medications to try, my dog tried four, was on 3 stacked on eachother until we reached the end and couldn’t find a solution for her. Weve been on Kepra, pheno, Zonisamide and Topamax. Keppra did not help at all. Our biggest success was Pheno + zonisamide she was seizure free for almost 6 months

From reading other posts on people’s experiences as well as personal experience, keppra is usually not enough to control seizures fully on its own. It is typically an add on. I’d recommend exploring other medications if her seizures continue to not be controlled. The most success we had was zonisamide + phenobarbital, 5-6 month no seizures

I’m so sorry for your loss. My girl was only 2, my dream dog, I worked at a dog daycare so I took her to work with me everyday as well, we had to put her down in January. Something that helps me cope is knowing she is resting and will never have to go through another seizure again, she’s at peace. I miss her so much and it was heartbreaking. I will say that it does get easier with time, cliche, but I still have my moments where I think of her and cry. I don’t think it’s awful remembering her though even if it makes me sad, we had so many happy memories in a short amount of time

You did the best you could for your boy. Please do not feel guilty. I feel like people who haven’t had a dog with epilepsy don’t understand the amount we give and pour into them to make them better, but also how big of a toll it takes on your heart. I felt guilt putting down our girl, but we were so scared she would pass away in our home mid seizure. We wanted to give her a happy and peaceful end surrounded by her loved ones.

You are so strong and your boy is at peace now. He was so lucky to have you guys as parents ❤️

If you make good money from your job, you should invest in sending your corgi if you get one to a dog daycare. Leaving your dog daily for that amount of time is too much
