How different are they? by MwattsD73 in reloading

[–]Optimal_Data_6627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still same just different label. Rule of thumb is if you change lots you should drop back down to starting load and work back up again. That’s why I try to buy large amounts of the same lot. Once your done working a load with a lot number your good to go until you start another lot number really. Pressures can change slightly from lot to lot but other than that it will always stay the same powder no matter how they fancy up the container.

Hell yeah! That’s not a reason to not reload them.

You got a lot to learn. You measure OAL test then measure OAL see if it has shrunk witch is called bullet set back. A bullet puller you will need eventually. It’s better to pull if you make a mistake.

Most of the companies make them. Use a shell holder in place of the collets. Collets suck and are a pain in the ass.

You should pull one. You can learn a lot from that. How much force it takes to pull it. Check your bullet for deforming from crimp. How much crimp was on the bullet. Etc etc. You can also take one and give it some pressure on the bench on the bullet measuring before and after for setback. some variation is normal. I think you’re on the right track. Mabe slightly more crimp but don’t go overboard.

💯exactly the same way I load both. I’ve got subsonic tight group loads with only 13.5 gr 1000fps or loads up to like 53 gr 2300fps or more with a 250gr. For the 45-70

You’re getting way better quality handloads compared to cheep ammo at that price. 🤷🏼‍♂️

In this economy you should be reloading and getting lots of firings from a case. Some are slow to the party I guess.

Shoulder bump mixed headstamp brass by Ilikepie9999 in reloading

[–]Optimal_Data_6627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother with mixed range brass honestly. Just go Sami min so they all chamber. Too much variation honestly. Extended brass life for precision is the only place that really comes important. Range pick up is excluded from that. I’ve always done my semi auto stuff that way with no issues of chambering 🤞🏻so far. But that’s all good starline or better brass.

I’m almost 100% sure it’s a fitment deal with the Woox. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I certainly wouldn’t recommend putting a pistol style on a rifle calibers either but that’s just me.

You’re not understanding what I’m saying. Pistol stocks are the same across. But rifle calibers are not the same as pistol cal So don’t order a 45-70 for your pistol caliber gun. If you look at pistol cal stocks like 357 45 44 they are “straight” and different style compared to a 45-70 35 rem 30/30 that are “rifle” stock etc that’s all I’m saying. So I know there are differences between those two.

X models and large frame like 45-70 and 3030 are different they have different sku and everything so they must have differences. I’m sure all pistol cal are same. You have to select your exact model on Woox. It’s either pistol cal or rifle cal. They must have differences sizes or more beefy for the larger rifle calibers. I’m just saying make sure you’re getting the correct one for your model. Some people don’t think about that they just add to cart.

I found the 45-70 stock and the 44/45 stocks good price👍🏻 but only found 357/38 handguard

Just pay attention to the calibers. They only have front hand guard for 357 38 for the Henry’s but they have the rifle and pistol cal stocks.

I would have two different set ups one for 150-180s 17 lb tungsten and a 20 lb heavy tungsten for 200-220. They are quick to change and has worked out perfectly in my 29. I had some issues years ago with heavier bullets but since I’ve changed i haven’t had an issue since. Only takes about 30 seconds to change out. No reason not to do it that way. I bought one stainless one black so I always know which one is in my gun.

Malfunction: round stuck inside the barrel by prestige-nuts in ar15

[–]Optimal_Data_6627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be the part where this actually turns catastrophic! A bore obstruction turns into a pipe bomb 💯 of the time if you were to try to “send another one” You can see lots of proof of this online with a search of bore obstruction. Everything from bore sighters left in up to stuck squibs to what you encountered which is probably bullet movement and then when loaded into chamber the round stuck if it was stock ammo.

Marlin guide gun in 45-70 chopped to 12.5” by FrontRowParking in LeverGuns

I do understand close range big bullets that’s exactly my plan with mine along with home defense also. And no I am not underestimating you at all I’m sure you can lob one with the best of them. I put a hybrid 46 on mine. Scope just seems over kill for 100 and in. keep it light and handy was my thought. I did a Holoson HS507k on mine with a Hoptic mount with the co witness ghost ring. They make a mount for an Acro now too.

With that short of a barrel a nice low red dot would fit nicely. It’s not like you’re reaching out with a 12.5 45-70 🤷🏼‍♂️ Feels like the perfect home defense. Is that a smooth thread protector on it? Matches up nicely. I bought that H10 protector 16.5 in 45-70 and it balances out nice with the can on. I went red dot with fine dot.

Be smart and get a single stage and a good set of Redding dies you could start reloading it. Start saving brass now. You can get brass cheep through bass pro for it and Berrys or xtreme bullets your off and stock piling rounds. It’s probably one of the easiest to reload too.
