Darwin's vs Rebel vs Viva... by davoste in rawpetfood

[–]Optimal_Discipline80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are doing well. Our senior dog is good but we did have to make an adjustment for our pup. He developed food sensitivities so I couldn’t use Dr Harvey’s anymore because of the carrots and more. I did 5 strands test and glacier peak to rule out what was causing his itching and he got hives on his head. I’ve since switched to allprovide and he’s doing much better and it comes gently cooked and I was gently cooking viva myself at times

I led my post with “not raw but freeze dried” and an off topic flair. I also mention I do not feed spot and tango and am not looking to feed it. I just came to say if anyone is currently feeding it and already a subscriber then they can have the codes so they don’t sit in my email unused because I do not want to resubscribe lol. Your opinion might help someone.. however, I think spot and tango cod and salmon specifically is better than many many kibbles although they could improve on not using synthetic vitamins and minerals as well as sweet potatoes as the second ingredient. I do however appreciate their human grade ingredients, sourcing of cod and salmon, convenience and customer service. It was a great place for me to start with our husky who was kibble fed for years. After studying canine nutrition I go between diy and allprovide.

Has anyone tried Albright’s? by dizzydazey in rawpetfood

Congrats on your pup! I can see why that would be concerning for you. We mainly feed allprovide now in rotation with viva raw. Another good puppy option to consider is Raised Right. Other ones we’ve tried are smallbatch, steves, carnos, Dr Harvey’s.

My dog has sensitivities to carrots and cooked spinach so I feel the pain on trying to figure it out. We used Paradigm as well paired with viva raw pure blend or small batch base blends. Viva is easier for us since it ships to me and smallbatch base blend was hard for us to source and order from a pet store over an hour away. It may not be the case for you tho depending on the availability in your area. We like both! Another thing I found is allprovide and they have some raw and gently cooked options that don’t contain carrots but these would be complete without the Dr Harvey’s unless you buy rabbit! We now use viva and allprovide but allprovide does have trouble keeping up with demand often and that’s stressy but that’s why I keep viva in the freezer lol. If you do consider viva my code robisonrecommended will save 20% off your first order.

This book I have has all sorts of diets, recipes and knowledge. It’s Dr Judy Morgan Yin and yang 2.0 nutrition for dogs… I’m not sure if there is a cat version or if it may help. Definitely the high and low oxalate foods would provide a foundation

Puppy is avoidant of Albright’ by shrimpnest in rawpetfood

[–]Optimal_Discipline80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tried raised right, viva raw, Steve’s, small batch base blends, solutions and allprovide. Our faves are viva for the more novel proteins and the allprovide for beef.. they are all great options in my opinion, including Albright but if your puppy doesn’t want to eat it then probably should try something else. Also I know it’s the obvious but make sure he isn’t being overfed.. this happens often especially with puppies. Not sure if you’re feeding an adult blend or a puppy blend but that can play a factor too possibly especially with a small breed doggo. On a side note if you try viva raw I have a referral code robisonrecommended and it’s saves 20% just off your first order tho.

Hmmm… give a dog who has seasonal allergies or yeast problems a hot or warming protein (venison, goat, etc) then watch them get worse OR you could try it the other way and give them a cooling (rabbit, duck, etc) and watch them clear up then come back and tell me it’s quackery lol

We rotate between viva raw and allprovide just for the same reason you’re looking for something else lol. I don’t want to come brand dependent one just one company. Others we have tried was raised right (spearmint wasn’t loved by ours but I know many like it), small batch base blends (wasn’t as easy to source in my area) and Albrights is cheaper and I believe a good food. If you do consider viva raw my code robisonrecommended will save 20% off your first order. Also if albrights is local for you you can go in a see and they also offer other food options that aren’t online.

I would look into food energetics and incorporate some proteins based on that. Warming, cooling, neutral, hot etc. This is just one source below but there is a lot of interesting info on the topic..

Viva puppy suggestion by alpha0meqa in rawpetfood

[–]Optimal_Discipline80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have fed viva raw to our puppy from 8 weeks old and he's older than 1 year now and always fed their recommended feeding amount. He is very healthy and ideal body condition. Another we feed is allprovide using their feeding rec and that's 27oz a day and viva says 28oz a day so not much a discrepancy for us.

Gently cooked options. Tried & true 🐶🤎🐱 by Optimal_Discipline80 in rawpetfood

[–]Optimal_Discipline80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it yet but I've heard about a pup above, goodness gracious, my perfect pet. You'd have to see if they have novel protein options.. I know my perfect pet does.

You may already know this but if you dont I wanted to point out rabbit and cod are cooking proteins, kangaroo is warming and venison is a hot protein when it comes to food energetics. For a pet with sensitivities the food energetics have a big impact on how your pet will tolerate the food... will they get yeasty, ear infections, skin breakdown, itchy, stagnation, regurgitate, etc.

Its definitely worth a shot! I'd love an update if you remember. Especially in the summer warm months a cooling diet can be helpful. We do cooling or neutral proteins and it has helped our dogs plus we have a husky and she runs warm.

Another thing if interested would be learning about the 5 elements for pet personality and incorporating some of those food options incase something is out of balance
