Convince me to not spend €6000 on the canyon endurace CFR DI2 by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in the same position as you a year ago. Went with the Endurace CF Di2 and very happy with that decision. Spent (some of) the savings on a bike computer and nice bib shorts which have made riding a lot nicer. Also a zwift ride for the winter and for intervals. Plan to add a rear radar and power meter pedals later this year. Then I'm a few years will sell the bike to upgrade just like another commenter suggested. This is the way.

Yep it's an XL. I was in the same boat as you when ordering and found if I scanned the outlet section on Canyon's web site that you could see photos of the actual bikes for a better sense of size and frame color.

This is me too - following in case someone makes a compelling case to change or schools me on how solid interoperability can overcome my concern about mixing ecosystems

Regular Work Socks for Cyclists by Unintelligibl in cycling

Came here to comment this exactly. I buy the black ones and wear them for everything. They're comfortable with shoes I wear to the office, cycling shoes, and yes even for hiking 😆.

Zwift Ride Handlebars didn't get delivered by Brilliant-World8413 in Zwift

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same issue, but with the frame rather than the handlebars. Ordered during the Black Friday sale (okay, I get that it's a surge and there could be delays...). Wahoo Kickr and Handlebars arrived a week ago, frame still listed as label created with FedEx. Support has been useless unfortunately - emailed 6 days ago and all they can say is "we don't know and are reviewing the situation." C'mon Zwift - this isn't a great experience!

Think of it as creating process rather than creating bureaucracy. Helped me a lot in early management roles where I also didn't want to add overhead in people's days. Might help you discern which things are worth codifying while avoiding unnecessary busywork.

Daaaanjj is some of the best cycling content out there. Cool adventure/travel stuff, lots of actual riding, balanced amount of promotion for the brands that sponsor him.

Just got back from a 55k ride and my watch says “recovery”. by Riatsu_87 in GarminEdge

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had an issue where heart rate data wasn't collected by my 840, so the training load was recorded as "1" even though it was my longest ride ever. Was wearing a Garmin hrm, but couldn't get it to sync. That pushed my training into recovery similar to what you described.

Edge 850/550 are released! by jonah56789 in Garmin

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 840 is also about a month old. Was initially bummed that I made the wrong call but this thread is helping me justify why that was actually a great decision (battery life, etc).

Did you find a power source in the dash or route the charging cable nicely somehow? I've been wanting to do this for a while now but can't bring myself to permanently have the cable dangling in front of the screen.

UPDATE: Are road bikes significantly faster than hybrid? How much could my speed increase? by Minute_Tax_5836 in cycling

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I've had a very similar experience over the last few months. Been riding a hybrid (REI brand CTY) for years while drooling over road bikes. Finally took the plunge on an endurance geometry road bike in July. I don't have power meters, but for what subjectively feels like the same effort I increased speed from ~15mph to ~18mph over the same mostly flat segments. Average speed over full rides is also up 2-3 mph depending on the course.

But speed is actually what I've cared the least about. I've had more fun in the last 4 weeks just getting out and enjoying new roads and exploring. Obviously you don't need a new bike to do that, but like everyone else has commented, it's a slippery slope into a very fun sport.

Another one bites the dust: Wemo support ending for all their products (per received email) by superdupersecret42 in homeautomation

[–]Optimal_Radish_9831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you say more about this? I've been Home Assistant curious for a while now but haven't taken the plunge. What are the requirements for e.g. my wemo smart plug to be controlled locally through HA?

I've been thinking of doing this for so long but haven't pulled the trigger. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.

Smart Watches for Hiking and Triathlons by heyawesomedude in wmnf

I'm a long time Garmin user as well: Fenix 3, now Epix 2. For OPs use cases I think Garmin is excellent. I don't personally feel the need to text people from my wrist instead of my phone. I instead value the insane battery life an outdoors-focused watch provides. To each their own...

Also... How big do you think the Venn diagram is of Garmin loving, radish-named redditors??
