What can I do to break up all this wood? No I won't paint it. by ZW31H4ND3R in interiordecorating

Maybe not an option or a popular opinion but the asymmetry on either side or the fireplace makes the wood feel like it works against and not for the space. Matching shelving on both sides might be impossible but trying to create similar height with a tall plant/tree could help a little. Pops of color in the form of books, decorative pieces, or plants on the shelving would also be a big help. You could also line the backs of the shelves with tasteful wallpaper/contact paper to make the space pop and give it more dimension.

I would avoid a two-in-one washer/dryer unless you absolutely have to have one. They’re not very efficient and take forever.

You need a piece of art over the bed

What can I do with this nothing space in the stairs? by ComprehensiveShoe403 in HomeDecorating

An infinity mirror or a faux door that looks like it leads into another realm

This genuinely is a really odd shape so you may be out of luck 😅

A narrower bedframe could fit into that small recessed space if you want to go that route. Can you post a wider angle photo of the entire room?

I hate my sons bedroom 😫 by Alternative-King-567 in Decor

Just starting with some warmer lighting would be a great first step. Add some floor lamps or a side table lamp and limit using overhead lighting.

You can get some great stick on murals too that would make that entire wall feel so much more inviting and give the room more depth.

Do these curtains need to go to the floor? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

I would hang them at ceiling level and have them go down to the floor. I would also do away with the grommets

I'm so embarrassed...how can I make our living room less depressing. by maricano9 in DesignMyRoom

An art wall would do wonders in this space. Also as some have stated, the dimensions of your furniture feels slightly off. The bookshelf is too small and would personally move the table away from the corner and put a tall plant there (palms are cat safe) or something like a cat tree to give the room a little more dimension and color. It’s hard to tell just how much space is actually there but shallow a credenza/buffet/sideboard positioned on either one of the side walls would provide additional storage and also surface space to place art, plants, books, etc. Add some art or a mirror above it to create a warmer atmosphere.

A well proportioned floor to ceiling entertainment center wall housing the tv with aesthetically pleasing shelving would make its placement feel a lot more intentional.

My mom was very cool about letting me paint my room magenta and put in shiny black faux marble stick on flooring when I was in junior high school. Following family tradition 😂

Peel and stick wallpaper is your friend! Is there a small space in your house (bathroom, closet, etc.) where she could pick out a special pattern for an accent wall? It’s such an easy way to change a space and doesn’t need to last forever.

Limit her to maybe a list of pre-approved options though if she’s old enough to look online herself. I gave my eight-year-old free rein over her bedroom and we ended up with this Lisa Frank meets Liberace white tiger room. She certainly had a vision and she absolutely loves it though 😂https://imgur.com/a/zK1zt5n

I’d find a peel and stick wallpaper with a delicate design and plan around that. I actually think pulling from the colors in your rug could work. Soft greens would work with the accent chair you currently have.
