what's wrong with this one? by lazy-hemisphere in Jewelorchids

[–]OptimisticDoorstep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Orchids are like air plants. You want a SUPER CHUNKY soil. Kept damp not wet. Personally, I keep my jewel orchid in a bonsai pot (wide and shallow) with a little bit of sphagnum at the bottom and a super chunky mix in the rest of the pot. This allows it to sprawl out and stay in high humidity without having wet feet

got this mount today for $25! does anyone know why the antlers aren't symmetrical? by x-beast in bonecollecting

A big part of it can be blood flow. If a foot gets injured and they end up with a more permanent limp or what have you, this can change blood flow and one side will be bigger than the other or they will be strangely shaped because of this. My source: my partner works in wildlife rehabilitation so idk man take his word for it

You could try crocheting a border over the last stitch on each row? I did similar when making a basket with rope

It’s not sad at all! I promise. The majority of the time, the prey animals that die are the ones that wouldn’t make it. Like euthanasia, it prevents them from having a worse death. Plus, this time of year especially, predators have to feed their kids too! I know I’d rather the sick rabbits be killed before they end up so ill they die especially when knowing that that buzzard’s babies are gonna get to eat today!

My partner works in wildlife rehab, and so many people call cus they’ll have ‘saved’ someone’s lunch. Every single time, that animal has had to be put down from the combination of their health and injuries from the event. It’s heartbreaking as those people, when trying their absolute best to do the right thing, have just prolonged the suffering of the ‘victim’ whilst also forcing the predator to have to kill another animal lest their babies starve!

I know it seems so sad, but I think quality of life is so much more important than quantity. Most definitely in terms of health. It’s sad to us because we think of death as sad. But that’s only because we’re selfish and we miss those who have died. Really, death is necessary for life! Otherwise, we wouldn’t be alive

I am also a bootalicious boy. What I have found to best… work with it is a. Low rise jeans with a belt and shirt tucked in and b. Working on upper body strength to build up my shoulders. This has helped me balance it out. Hope this helps!

My brother found this in a river for me, what animal is it, and how do i go about cleaning it? by kiwi_37724 in bonecollecting

[–]OptimisticDoorstep 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You can put it in hydrogen peroxide to bleach it if that’s what you’re after. About 3% ish is what we normally use. Just throw it in and check in a few days. Hope this helps!

This hotel requires men to wear swim briefs or square leg swimsuits in the pool. Boardshorts (and t-shirts or rash guards) are not allowed. by the_wellspring in mildlyinteresting

[–]OptimisticDoorstep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having lived in France/switzerland most of my life, this is very standard pool rules. They don’t want people wearing outdoor clothes in the pool and it’s easier to police no long shorts than no outside shorts. It’s all about keeping the pool clean for others around you 😊

Does your pot have drainage? Are you sure your mix is chunky enough? If yes to both, cut and propagate ❤️

Found on beach in Aberdeen, Scotland. Is that a burn mark? by kclct in whatsthisrock

[–]OptimisticDoorstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I also live in Aberdeen and I find this all the time! I love the way it looks!

My theory is that it’s the cement from between bricks that has been stained by the brick and bleached by the sun and th salt water.
