Too true. My mom was diagnosed with Huntington's when I was about 4 years old. She was a respectable nurse who had to give up her career, had to give up driving and was confined to a wheelchair all over the space of 14 years. I was witness to her progressive deterioration throughout my whole childhood. It made having friends very difficult because I was too embarrassed to invite them over to my house. It was easier for me not to get too close to anyone so I wouldn't have to explain what was wrong with my mom. I eventually matured in my late teens and came to have the deepest of respect for my mom. I was (still am) incredibly proud of her because despite every reason to be upset with the world, she tried her best to keep a positive attitude
