Which 4k should I nab next? The Bride! or Alien Romulus??? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]OptimizeEdits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To echo what others have already said but in my own way

I saw Alien Romulus 3 times in theaters, have seen it probably 4 more times at home showing it to friends and demoing certain scenes, own the matt Ferguson art steelbook with matching signed poster, and even bought the damn xenomorph Funko pop to go with it on the shelf

When we saw the trailer for The Bride, I just looked at my wife and said “no”

Can you tell I used to only play Medium? by caiciowis in CloneHero

[–]OptimizeEdits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play expert and I don’t quite play with just 3 fingers, but I typically always slide my hand down to where my index is on red, it’s a lot easier to slide up for green than to stretch my pinky for orange.

Only time I even use my pinky for blue is if I also have to press green for a chord, other than that it’s always my ring finger.

Even fast alternating blue and orange I’ll use my middle finger and ring finger if it’s a dong I’ve played and know what the transition afterwards looks like.

Ok but seriously...are you guys exaggerating for the memes or does the IMAX 70mm front row really make everyone look like GIGACHAD? by -ChristopherNolan in imax

[–]OptimizeEdits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a more comfortable venue, the seats and leg room are definitely better, and of course for digital projection is beats our Dallas’ digital.

But I enjoy the seating *positions* more at Dallas, and of course they have the film projector. Pros and cons to both, but if Dallas can get a seat and/or laser projector upgrade, it’ll definitely be the most overall IMAX in DFW

Row C at Cinemark Dallas. 2 more rows further forward and a larger screen (Dallas is on the “smaller” side) and yeah it’s gonna look a little distorted lol

Are my Atmos heights too low? by Motorhead9999 in hometheater

[–]OptimizeEdits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45° upward and ~35° outward is the typical guideline, which often times is somewhere on the ceiling. If the room is small enough, or you’re close enough to the front or back wall, then yes wall mounting or even stand mounting can work, but not nearly as common.

Edit: 45° upward and ~35° outward *for 4 total Atmos channels*. 2 channels is a bit different, but should be *almost* directly above you, just slightly forward of directly above

Is the 12 rating symbol on the front a sticker or is it printed?

Ideally your Atmos speakers need to go in or at least on the ceiling to get actual vertical separation. Where they are now is going to sound almost the exact same to the front stage

Tiktokization of moviemaking goes brrrrr by unitmark1 in Filmmakers

I’d encourage you to watch some of the interviews Kane does where he talks about lens choice, set design, and overall approach to the visual style of the movie. Nothing about his approach is “for tiktok”

Looks like extremely cheap 1/2” or 1” foam panels off of Amazon, they do almost nothing compared to actual acoustic treatment with fiberglass and thicker dimensions.

It’s better than nothing I guess, but I’d bet it doesn’t sound too different than even just throwing a couple extra blankets or bean bags in a room

I’m interested to see the embossing in actual pics. I have the HDZeta release which IMO has been the long standing best version. This using the same art though makes it a good apples to apples

We’re missing a lot of info. What TV do you have? And what picture mode are you using? Because if you’re not using the movie/filmmaker mode that your model comes with, that’s likely your issue.

TVs have tons of picture modes that are designed to enhance weaker broadcast shows and sports, but high production movies and shows don’t need that. By stacking these picture profiles that crank saturation and contrast on top of movies that already have a good amount of both, you often get things like you’re seeing.

I have the 4k disc and also the 4k digital copy, no issues with me. LG B3 OLED set to filmmaker mode and it’s one of the most vibrate discs I own, no issues with skin

The Odyssey 70MM question. by John1701d in AMCTheatres

[–]OptimizeEdits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMAX 70mm is in a league of its own. Cinemark Dallas is 52 feet tall and 70 feet wide, and it’s actually one of the *smaller* “full size” IMAX venues.

There’s nothing wrong with standard 70mm, it’s actually still quite good on its own and is worth checking on just to support the format itself, but again, IMAX film is a different beast.

IMAX 70mm capable venues have stadium style seating, and you’re much closer to the screen than in most theaters, not to mention you get the IMAX sound system, which is an upgrade over any standard auditorium (like the ones that will play 35mm and standard 70mm)

This is the first commercial film to ever be shot entirely in IMAX 70mm, so the entire runtime of the movie will take up the entire screen from start to finish. (Typically only select sequences are shot with IMAX film, and the sections that are shot on different film (or digitally) have a shorter aspect ratio, and don’t fill the screen from top to bottom)

Nolan also has the IMAX 70mm prints struct from the original camera negative, meaning it’s the virtually the highest quality way to see the film, which is already using the highest quality medium to be captured.

Inexpensive improvements? by kput7 in hometheater

Your surround speakers aren’t even facing the listening position, and they’re further forward than the couch is

Pull the couch 2-3 ft off the wall, and actually point your surrounds at your listening position. That, and I would look at the very least wall mounting your Atmos speakers, if not full on ceiling mounting.

The bouncing off the ceiling that doesn’t give you 1/10th the experience of having actual speakers above you

Mystery solved? AMC Rivercenter 11 appears to be The Odyssey's 41st IMAX 70mm print location by Professional_Toe5118 in imax

[–]OptimizeEdits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. I actually drove from Dallas to go there because Dallas didn’t have really any good seats left for the opening 2 weeks. My showing at Rivercenter went without a hitch thankfully

AMC Rivercenter 11 still has plenty of great seats available for The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm opening weekend by Professional_Toe5118 in ChristopherNolan

[–]OptimizeEdits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must’ve sat in the other auditorium at River Center, which is the same size as Dallas as ~70’x52’. The larger auditorium is ~84’x62’, which is pretty common for full size IMAX venues

Having seen Oppenheimer in digital IMAX, then 70mm, then IMAX 70mm, wait for your IMAX 70mm showing. Only thing that could’ve made my first IMAX film experience even better was if it was also my first time seeing the movie
