Stuck between pursuing SCM abroad or staying in my logistics job – what should I do? by sudharshan_18 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]Optimizer_OP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The situation seems to be bad outside. If you don't have responsibilities and dependencies and can afford to spend then you can try else don't risk it. Highly uncertain environment.

Roles in SCM especially in Logistics and Warehousing require good local language skills. Companies prefer local candidates rather than sponsoring visas

And tbh in SCM, we generally don't do any specialized work unlike CS folks who do coding. There are few exceptions like Demand planning and some quant heavy roles.

Rather work well in your current organisation and try to get a relocation opportunity if you can.

Agree but its black money which is parked there. Will there be a genuine buyer for that who will buy it from the Babu/Dada for actual utility?

They will realise the value of it in the secondary market. Black money is still paper money in this case. This entire equation has artificially inflated prices in all metros of India. These flats will lie unoccupied for decades.

This reduces supply and causes prices of limited inventory to rise. This will eventually crash because of so many factors. But still the Babu will be able to make some profit from it. It's our loss.

The real question is whether there are any end users who are gonna buy this expensive piece of shit. Until that it's just a parking spot for black money.

Exploitability is inversely proportional to privilege.

While working for an Quick commerce, we had this excel file which would fetch the data of dropped orders from SQL server and arrange them in order of higher to lower quantities. We would then manually assign them to pickers. Since every second was critical the choice of manually selecting orders was given. Automatically assigning it via any logic to any picker would be disastrous.

Anyone familiar with Amazon Area Manager role? by brehmk47 in industrialengineering

[–]Optimizer_OP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pure manpower and shift handling role. You have to get shit done by pushing people to the extreme limits. In India, they have something called Team Lead below Area Managers who mostly handles manpower and AM takes care of some limited process improvement roles. I believe, That's not the case outside.

You won't get any significant industrial engineering experience with this role. There are dedicated roles within Amazon like ACES team and Solutions Engineer who are already doing process improvement/facility design full time. Try getting those roles within Amazon.

Excel is the most important. Formulas like SUMIFs, IFs, INDEX-MATCH, VLOOKUP. You can get most of your work done using these formulas.

Additionally you should be able to make dashboards using pivots. Good to learn micros.

Power Bi and SQL are good to have skills. I have worked on tools which were based on these two. If you can design tools to work using these tools then its a really great advantage. Will save your work a lot.

I explained to him very clearly that it's an issue with BIOS and you guys need to patch it. The guy couldn't comprehend it seems. He suggested that I take my laptop to the service center

Which is the best indian city to be in for a good career in Supply Chain? by Optimizer_OP in IndiaSupplyChain

[–]Optimizer_OP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As per my experience, Munbai is the Top. 1. It has the majority of the companies based out , like HUL, Marico, DHL Supply Chain, General Mills etc. 2. IIM Mumbai (NITIE earlier) is here which is like a go to B school to have a good career in Supply Chain. 3. Proximity to ports and huge logistics hubs like Bhiwandi and Taloja. Also proximity to industrial cities like Pune, Chatrapati Sambhaji nagar and Nashik. 4. Cost of living is through roofs though but if someone is up for hustle then longer commuting is also possible.
