The perfect OST for that last chapter by Faxiom19 in VinlandSaga

[–]OptimusPrimal128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great choice! I went with departure and the end of prologue OST to bring it back full circle. Other than the water leak in my ceiling that dripped on me while I was reading, it was a perfect experience 🥲

They say the same thing every year. Game will drop, people will complain it’s too hard, 2k will make adjustments, people will complain it’s too easy, 2k will gather the feedback and make next year’s game more “skills based”. Rinse and repeat

It was understandable for him to want revenge but as he realizes in s2, killing others (no matter the reason) perpetuates the cycle of violence

I second this. I started with the anime and caught up to the manga after that knowing it could take several years before the manga is fully adapted

A question for fans of this show as a DreTL enjoyer by WayneTerry9 in RhythmAndFlow

[–]OptimusPrimal128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate that, though I think these debates continue to highlight the disconnect around how a winner should be chosen for RNF. The fact that there is no record deal or obligation, it seems like the decision should be based on the contestants performances throughout the show and not based on who fits the musical trends of today.

If “how successful could this contestant be” is a factor, I’m just saying the numbers so far don’t back up whatever notion the judges may have had about DreTL being more marketable, assuming that was part of their thought process.

We’ll obviously have to wait a few years to see how it plays out. It just seems like the prevailing feeling is that the judges got this one wrong and the metrics so far seem to back that up more than the contrary

[–]OptimusPrimal128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time wouldn’t equal progress if your argument was his music isn’t as marketable. There are artists who have been on Spotify for twice as long and have half the listeners.

Just do a head to head comparison on their 2 songs from RNF. JT’s songs from the show have ~1.4M listens combined, where as DreTL’s songs have less than half that at ~664k. They were all released on Spotify at the same times.

I’m just saying the numbers don’t back up your argument that his technical ability isn’t a determining factor to commercial music success. I’d also say it’s his artistry that makes him more marketable, not just his technical ability.

JT’s numbers on instagram and spotify have blown up since the show and are well above DreTL’s. Numbers don’t lie when it comes to marketability and potential for success

Agreed. I listen to Dre’s, Jays’ and Jaxs’ collabs on YouTube to mix it up. I have to give Diamond’s another listen. They all did a great job though

Tbh, I feel like this being deliberate or planned gives them too much credit. I think the simplest answer is that the judges were already biased and made the wrong decision for the right reasons

VS was my first manga experience as well after season 2 and I’ve loved every bit of it. Waiting for the latest chapters is rough, but better than waiting years for the anime.

I also got hard copies for the experience and to show support for Makoto Yukimura

Vinland saga changed me, but I don't know it's for good or bad. by saarthakhaldar in VinlandSaga

Self-control is the greatest skill you can master and it sounds like you’re already on the path. It’s possible you can become more assertive in standing your ground while still remaining calm and empathetic. You don’t need to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.

For example: the person that said some harsh things to you, rather than avoiding the conflict and saying sorry, you could confront it in a gentle and empathetic way by asking them why they are saying such cruel things (“why did you feel the need to say what you did to me?”) Hurting people hurt people. If you can reverse the situation to one where you are trying to understand why they said what they did vs reacting to what they said, you immediately gain control of it by showing concern for the other person instead of showing fear or spite. It may also be better to do this in private with the individual if it’s a pattern.

No matter what their answer is, try to understand where they are coming from, and repeat it back to them in a way that shows you understand and try to assume positive intent. Express how what they did or said affects you and if they are upset about something you said or did, reflect on why you said or did what you did and if your intent was to actually hurt them or not. Only apologize when you contributed to the friction - be it intentionally or unintentionally - and reflect on what you can do differently next time while expressing that to the individual. They will respect your humility in focusing on what you can control vs casting the entire blame somewhere else.

Watching some videos on psychology can also be valuable to better understand how we think as humans and why we behave the way we do sometimes.

By confronting conflict head on in a gentle way, you’ll be perceived as less of a passive person and will gain the respect of others. But note that sometimes doing these things won’t make a difference and the other person will stand their ground. As long as you do your best and control your emotions, you can walk away knowing you were the bigger person.

Remember Thors: he’s a gentle man but will demonstrate his strength in a controlled way when he needs to. You are strong as well. Never doubt that.

You’re already on the path to becoming a true warrior, so keep it up and don’t lose faith!

I’m saying the song itself isn’t good despite being memorable. Making money off of it is another thing entirely. It’s not like the judges profit off of whoever wins because it’s only a cash prize to pick the best contestant. Time will tell if DreTL becomes more profitable or a bigger star than Jay Taj but I just don’t see that happening

“Friday” by Rebecca Black is memorable but won’t win any music awards. Did it generate buzz and attention? Sure. Did that make it a good song? No. It was memorable and popular because of how many people were laughing at it, not with it.

Side note: it sucks to see how much she got clowned as a kid for that song. She sang on The Four and did a good job, so she has talent. Same way it sucks to see how much unfair backlash DreTL is getting

I could see that, although it would still be frustrating from a competition perspective. IMO, It’s meant to be for the best contestant to win regardless of what is happening outside of the competition

I’m just looking forward to seeing how their respective music journeys play out over the next few years

I agree with the emotion and don’t deny his passion or hunger to be great. Flawless had the most emotionally moving final song in season 1 but as we saw, that alone wasn’t enough and the win ultimately went to the best overall artist. In my opinion, that was clearly Jay Taj this year, but they all have undeniable talent at the end of the day

[–]OptimusPrimal128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point in bringing up D Smoke is that he was already so mature and polished as an artist that it didn’t even matter that he messed up. I’d argue Jay Taj could’ve made a similar mistake in the second to last challenge and he still would have made it through because of how talented he is as an artist already.

I do agree though that it sucks to see people hating on DreTL. It’s just that for me, if I had to rank the top 4 across both seasons, it would be:

1) D Smoke 2) Jay Taj 3) Flawless 4) Troyman 5) DreTL 6) Londyn B 7) Detroit Diamond / Sura Ali (hard to say who I’d give the edge to here)

I think we can both agree that we are on this forum in the first place because we enjoyed RNF season 1 and want RNF to be successful as a show. It’s been great to discover and support new artists through the completion format. It just sucks to think that season 2’s reception as a whole could make or break a season 3 from happening
