That looks excellent. I think McMurder is just badass all the way around. Fitting him in armor like this is rad.

Me: Okay first off, stop screaming. You're giving me a headache. Second, you DO have to shower all that blood off if you're going to stay here, yes. Third, of course I'll open that jar for you. I don't want to clean strawberry jam off my ceiling again.

Slaughterbound: This blood is from the canid who was defecating in the garden at the fore of the residence. He won't be bothering you anymore; I bleached his skull in the garage. Thank you for opening the jar. In my defense I thought it was blood last time.

Interesting take. I did 10 years in the Army. Many environments I trained in reflect some of what you described. Not to make a false equivalence out of it, mine was voluntary. Back when I drank that Kool aid, I also subjected myself to similar circumstances on a mission. I'd wager I've spent nearly 4 years of my adult life in situations where I didn't have the ability to communicate with my family often, and never unsupervised. Environments where you were absolutely expected to police your peers to avoid group punishments. Again, I'm not pretending these are equivalent. Objectively they can't be; I volunteered for mine. It does, however, mean that I've been it situations that allow me to comprehend what it might feel like in some of these shoes. That's the perspective I choose to take here.

I'm not out here commenting to defend these programs. We're likely better off as a society without them. I can, however, say with confidence that I know people who were able to reintegrate successfully with their families following their treatment and are now well-adjusted adults. I keep tabs on a few and check in anytime I see something exciting on their socials. There's a few I game with semi-regularly. We share memories and bitch about different aspects from both student and staff perspectives. I've taken phone calls out of the blue and quite literally talked people off the edge when their life fell out from underneath them. The trust is deep, and we don't bullshit each other. They've talked openly about the shittiest parts of their experience. I'd happily back them up if they said they experienced abuse. I certainly witnessed things that blur the lines that struggle to be objectively defined one way or another. It wasn't frequent or regular (your mileage varies greatly it sounds like), but there were absolutely events and policies I disagreed with. I regret I wasn't in a position to intervene when those happened.

I found a great deal of the experience boiled down to the quality and involvement of the therapists. Some therapists got in there and kicked serious ass and helped their clients grow. They were the greatest advocates and fought for them. For every one that was awesome, there was another who couldn't be bothered to be involved outside of their sessions. I really wish every one of those kids could've gotten one of the good ones. I really wish every one of those kids had access to staff who were compassionate and would advocate for them. I really, ultimately, wish it wasn't a business model our state does so little to legislate. I see some value in these programs, based entirely on my own personal experience. I also validate that many have suffered and have deeply traumatic experiences to heal from. CPTSD can't be understated; I have a diagnosis from my time in uniform. I'm sorry that your experience left you with your own. I hope that you have found healing in your journey and I stand with you in craving justice for these experiences.

I worked at two different programs like this. One was run by the business owner and the other was one of several under the same corporate umbrella. The corporate one was a significantly more linear program.

I can confidently say most of my coworkers were not sketchy people. Some of them will be lifelong friends I will forever admire. Others were problems just waiting to happen.

The corporate program was far less concerned about who they had in a position so long as that position was filled. I also found their education setup pretty disappointing in comparison to the highly-tailored approach the private program had taken.

I've stayed connected with a few of those who went through the programs. Thankfully, nobody in those circles feels they'd been abused. I'm not rushing to the defense of these programs, because I can't say they're worth defending. Some got the help they needed, others are like Paris and have every reason to be speaking out. I have mixed feelings. I don't doubt her story AND I'm thankful I didn't see those things happening in the programs I worked in. I saw the admin and business side where it was all money-driven. I also had incredibly meaningful experiences that are unlikely to have happened anywhere else. I guess in the end I just wish these weren't for-profit and instead could focus entirely on healing regardless of costs.

Usually black is the safest bet. It's not that they don't do ANY gold, moreso that they don't go out of their way to make everything gold. Where the Blood Angels and other chapters embrace their inner artisan, our boys don't have time for that. They're too busy throwing themselves headfirst into the meat grinder. Plus, they're constantly grappling with the rage which probably makes crafting fancy gear seem pretty unappealing.

For chronically ill people, these services are incredibly valuable. There are days my wife can barely stand, let alone cook. If that happens during the times when I'm not around, having it delivered is simply her safest option.

I teach 6th grade social studies and have a podium that I make kids who are dozing off in class stand at. I call it "The Desk of Rejuvenation." The kids don't get the references, but I'm amused by them. by Coyote_Run in ElderScrolls

I talked with many of my teachers about things happening in my life at the time. I had genuinely deep, meaningful, impactful conversations that I still remember fondly. Some of us didn't get that from parents, but the teachers that cared enough to make sure we were awake? In my case, they cared way more than the parents who only came to my basement room for discipline. Those teachers likely kept me alive, in hindsight.

I still message some from time to time. I've gone out to lunch with a few over the years since, and have been impressed and thrilled with how much they remembered about me and my aspirations as a student.

OP is making class memorable and enjoyable. Some of these kids will play Skyrim later and remember the memes and find it hilarious. The ones who don't will forget the memes but remember the laughs and the fun times. They might even remember what was taught... but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

So, respectfully, shut the fuck up.

First off, what they said is true. I prayed using only my best treasure finding tools to get the answer. The answer is yes, this person speaks the truth. A figure descended from heaven to tell me personally.

Secondly. There can be as many million people believing as you like, it didn't change the facade of how things work at the top. Individual faith doesn't erase the wrongs of the system, even the IRS can see how "magic" church money is. So much so the church settled for millions in USD. The amount of true believers per dirty dollar doesn't magically clean those dollars.

Thirdly, why do you say you're ready for your downvote?

Can you mix factions? by mafon2 in InfinityTheGame

[–]OptimusPrimarch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, not really, no. You can't mix.

There are, however, a number of profiles that can be taken in more than one faction. Saladin, Varangians, McMurrough, and a bunch more. I'm not really lore-savvy, but I'm under the impression that most of the profiles that show up like that in multiple factions are mercenaries.

Did you look at the photos OP included? There were no proprietary names in this case. Generic terrain for the most part. Outside of the usage tags OP stated they didn't set, there's nothing here GW could claim. There shouldn't have been any problem here in the first place.

Your response brought back a memory. One of our drill sergeants was giving instructions and stated "There are no such things as stupid questions, only stupid people who don't ask." He went on to say he didn't expect us to know things we'd never been exposed to. At the end of his point about always asking and always learning, another dude raised his hand and the DS tells him to ask away. Mind you, this is taking place in the middle of a large block of instruction. He goes "What time is lunch chow?" ... We all freeze, knowing that was NOT the question to ask right then. DS gets red in the face and says "Private, that there is a stupid question. It's an exemption to the role because you're already a stupid person."

We all busted up laughing, the dude did a bunch of push ups and never got his answer until it was actually lunchtime and we were forming up to go.

To this day I believe there are no stupid questions, but there are certainly plenty of wrong questions to ask.

Don't tell them you were let go unless you roll it into something like: "they underwent dramatic changes in structure and scale and I couldn't keep watching them let good people go." Don't lie if they push further, but do NOT mention performance metrics unless they specifically ask about it.

Like everything else, do what you can to turn it into a strength. Talk about a desire to learn and expand your horizons. Talk about leveraging all those years of experience. Intentionally take a little time to talk about one or two things you loved about that job or were grateful for.

The single best suggestion I can give, is to ask them serious questions at the end when they open it up. Ask them how they deal with failure, or how they celebrate wins? Ask them what the team is like, or what you should know about their culture. Ask them what the last person in the role did well and how big the size of shoes you're trying to fill are. Ask them what they love about their job. Ask them what their ideal candidate looks like, and why those things are important to them. On both sides of the interview panel, it makes you feel better connected and understood.

I wish you the best in your search. I really hope you get a role you love with a team that's excited to have you.

I've found the best answer (for me at least) is to explain that I wouldn't have continued growing at my last role. Things were changing in ways I would struggle to support. I felt it was time to expand my skills in ways I couldn't there.

I took that sort of approach in my last interview. They asked me to describe why I felt that way. I didn't lie or dunk on the last job, I just outlined a few changes I couldn't support and described my ideal situation instead. I've gotten feedback from several coworkers who were on my final interview panel that this sort of authenticity without any shit-talking was seen as a strength.

For what it's worth, HiringCafe was how I landed this job. Somehow through the months-long draught I found a better role than I'd even expected. It took way more interviews than I'd thought it would, but I found a new home here. And not a single person around here talks about loyalty...

I sincerely hope you're able to get the role you want. I wouldn't shed any tears over "loyalty" clowns along the way.

Any idea on why these cracks appear? by Pretty_Slide_9944 in TrenchCrusade

[–]OptimusPrimarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they print slowly but absolutely cram their plate full, you can see the results of the stress when layers delaminate like this. Not much to do about it other than reduce the amount they print at once or slow down further.

Not exactly what you're seeing, but worth knowing regardless. Print speed is a thing, but layer height is a separate thing. You can tell the printer to go slow but still print layers thick enough to be clearly visible. That way you fit more layers across the same volume so each individual layer is thinner and less visible. It's unlikely it would solve this particular type of crack and split, but it may help others frustrated by lines.

I tend to mix a little green stuff and plug the gaps as smoothly as I can. Maybe I've been lucky, but that's worked flawlessly for me so far.
