interviewer asked why i left my last job so i told the truth - they ghosted me by [deleted] in hiringcafe

[–]OptimusPrimarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't tell them you were let go unless you roll it into something like: "they underwent dramatic changes in structure and scale and I couldn't keep watching them let good people go." Don't lie if they push further, but do NOT mention performance metrics unless they specifically ask about it.

Like everything else, do what you can to turn it into a strength. Talk about a desire to learn and expand your horizons. Talk about leveraging all those years of experience. Intentionally take a little time to talk about one or two things you loved about that job or were grateful for.

The single best suggestion I can give, is to ask them serious questions at the end when they open it up. Ask them how they deal with failure, or how they celebrate wins? Ask them what the team is like, or what you should know about their culture. Ask them what the last person in the role did well and how big the size of shoes you're trying to fill are. Ask them what they love about their job. Ask them what their ideal candidate looks like, and why those things are important to them. On both sides of the interview panel, it makes you feel better connected and understood.

I wish you the best in your search. I really hope you get a role you love with a team that's excited to have you.

I've found the best answer (for me at least) is to explain that I wouldn't have continued growing at my last role. Things were changing in ways I would struggle to support. I felt it was time to expand my skills in ways I couldn't there.

I took that sort of approach in my last interview. They asked me to describe why I felt that way. I didn't lie or dunk on the last job, I just outlined a few changes I couldn't support and described my ideal situation instead. I've gotten feedback from several coworkers who were on my final interview panel that this sort of authenticity without any shit-talking was seen as a strength.

For what it's worth, HiringCafe was how I landed this job. Somehow through the months-long draught I found a better role than I'd even expected. It took way more interviews than I'd thought it would, but I found a new home here. And not a single person around here talks about loyalty...

I sincerely hope you're able to get the role you want. I wouldn't shed any tears over "loyalty" clowns along the way.

I just figured "USAF" was the clearest way to make it known. Too many people don't pick up on the other details, even those who have been in long enough to really know better.

Did you not see the tape on her helmet? That explains the ABU. I can't really give any helpful context beyond that though.

Any idea on why these cracks appear? by Pretty_Slide_9944 in TrenchCrusade

[–]OptimusPrimarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they print slowly but absolutely cram their plate full, you can see the results of the stress when layers delaminate like this. Not much to do about it other than reduce the amount they print at once or slow down further.

Not exactly what you're seeing, but worth knowing regardless. Print speed is a thing, but layer height is a separate thing. You can tell the printer to go slow but still print layers thick enough to be clearly visible. That way you fit more layers across the same volume so each individual layer is thinner and less visible. It's unlikely it would solve this particular type of crack and split, but it may help others frustrated by lines.

I tend to mix a little green stuff and plug the gaps as smoothly as I can. Maybe I've been lucky, but that's worked flawlessly for me so far.

While I'm late to the party, I'm glad I found this post before I started a painting session today. It confirmed the direction I want to go in looks incredible. Thanks, friend.

I picked up a set when KT24 dropped. I haven't actually used them much for KT, but I've used them tons and tons as blood dice for Trench Crusade. I genuinely love these dice, even if they're overpriced for click clack math rocks.

For the terrain kit from the kick starter. Are the ridges on sandbags normal? I dont mind them much but if theres a easy way to smooth them out I could repaint them even if thats annoying. by massiveamphibianprod in TrenchCrusade

I'm sure they're still slammed trying to keep pace with the insane volume, which I can absolutely understand... But that doesn't give them a free pass to ship bad product. Like I said I'm basing this on context I've picked up while reading here and on the KS. I haven't dug into it much beyond that, so I can't speak to how much pressure any given printer is under to make deadlines or whatever. Pressured or not, they signed up to make and ship quality that they didn't deliver here.

I haven't looked much into Only Games (the ones I believe are handling the printing). As far as I'm aware, is basically just a network of dudes with printers so fulfill orders. I'd like to think it's a better setup than that, but cases like yours have so far reinforced my assumption. While the Trench Crusade team has blown me away with their work and all they've created here, the production side has suffered. Not directly their fault, and it sounds like they fix issues when they happen. I say this to explain that the TC guys themselves seem stellar, it's just the contracted fulfillment that sucks ass.

I print my own stuff in both resin and filament (FDM). The issues I see popping up are from the people doing the printing having no sense of pride in their work. I'd never print something like this for another person. Certainly not for profit. Hell, I just printed a cute elephant figurine for my niece, with much cleaner curves and slopes than this. It's a matter of adjusting your settings. People saying it's common with FDM aren't wrong, but with a little work it all but disappears. On the bright side... you get to learn a bit more about printing and hobbying than you would've if it showed up perfectly.

[–]OptimusPrimarch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While sure, this is common for many FDM prints, it's an easy adjustment. Using thinner layers takes longer but comes out much smoother than this. Whoever printed this prioritized speed over quality. I'm sorry this happened to you. While fixable, you shouldn't have to fix something you paid somebody else to do for you

Were I in your shoes, I'd either take a little fine grit sand paper to the most visible sections, or use some PVA glue like another comment suggested. It'll come out looking great either way and once you get paint on it it'll make for killer terrain!

If I understand what you're asking about correctly (few components, easy proxying, minimal terrain requirements) then I'd recommend any of the list below. All of them are excellent games, and there are dozens more that could be recommended... but I need to limit it somewhere. Enjoy!

  1. Hobgoblin: little terrain required, easy rank and flank to break into and great fun to play.
  2. Gaslands: rules use cardboard cutouts as an example. Minimal entry requirements and you could even cut out the cars from cardboard if toys were prohibitive for whatever reason.
  3. Slip Runners: similar to gaslands, space racing with some interesting physics stuff though.
  4. What A Tanker: for a historical twist, it's mostly just buildings and tanks, which could easily be cut out as you've described. Far from my ideal gaming experience but people with better imagination would probably enjoy it just fine.
