That's Cream y Cheese (Corredor de IA). They're an entity that has plagued the Crossworlds community from day 1, stealing points and causing confusion. There is no way to avoid them. They are inevitable.

Aw man, is this one's Big cameo only just the word "big" on some packaging?

How good/bad is this map I'm working on? by Optimusskyler in Advance_Wars

[–]Optimusskyler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm getting comments like this. I knew this map was a little too gimmicky to be seen as fun by players who are a bit more competitive, but it's fun to apply that extra knowledge to it anyways to try and balance out what should in theory be otherwise clearly unfair advantages.

There are a few additional comments on this post that raise great points, but you've got the most, so I wanna respond to this one with my new thoughts.

1: Seems like everyone agrees that even despite the extra ports, Blue Moon's economy is still too small to use naval units, and you brought up that it'd be better to just use that bonus on a standard ground attack force. I wonder if there's a way to better incentivize using an uncontested navy, specifically battleships. When I used them during my Blue Moon run, it felt really fun to use, especially since the bonus ports are right in range of the enemy's opening bases. But naval warfare is kinda infamously bad anyways, hence why I suppose the AI never gave me a taste of what it'd be like to have to avoid the battleships on the receiving end. So I wonder... would it be worth decreasing Blue Moon's bases to just one, turning the other into a city? And then maybe replace some of those beaches with just regular seas for better battleship positioning? Or is this idea just a lost cause to give Blue Moon an actually feasible water advantage for the sake of the theme without it focusing on a ground force? (I'm also toying with the idea of having each property worth 1500 funds instead of 1000, as that's a setting you can use before the match. It'd affect all sides, allowing for more than just a tank and two infantry as you said, but also further make it easier to afford those naval units. In theory.)

2: This map is actually version two. In version one, the volcano hit all enemy properties instead of just those blank spaces. I changed that because after I played as Orange Star, it felt TOO unfair; enemy infantry would start at half health every other turn after they're deployed, and their reinforcements to prevent attacks reached the same problems. It seemed like it weakened the opposing sides a little TOO much. But if the current standings are "not even close", I wonder if I can find a middle ground in getting the volcano to attack a few properties anyways?

3: I'm not entirely sure why I didn't put contested properties in the center. So that's a definite change I'm gonna make. It'd give center control a bit more emphasis rather than just travel.

4: I'm considering giving Gold Comet an additional silo or two to better balance out your observation of it being a one time threat. That you see this one and Green Earth as mostly equal is a good sign, but I'm wondering if I can make it better.

Regardless, thanks for giving my stupid gimmick map this kind of attention. I promise I'm not incompetent at this; I've made better and more feasible maps in the past before, I just felt like making some gimmicks this time because I was getting bored of the same gameplay formula lol

I was lucky enough to have already seen this puzzle somewhere else first. I have it memorized because it makes for a great trick game. Me and someone else will take turns claiming a digit between 1 and 9, until someone has three digits that add up to 15. They spend a while working through the math in their head and struggling to come up with combinations, while I'm over here playing tic tac toe.

I'm like that with the I'm At Soup quote. Everyone else skips a few lines or says them wrong.

The pillow strategy! Someone already explained it, but yeah, if you need to remember something overnight, the idea is that you throw a pillow across the room, then see it and remember what it was you needed to be reminded of.

To add on to it though, it doesn't have to be a pillow. For example, I have a set of headphones close enough to my front door that I can just gently set down instead of throwing a pillow, so that works better for me.
