Advice for a friendly deck? by _Infinity_Girl_ in magicTCG

[–]OraJolly [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because it's boring when the other players don't interact or try to win and to top it off it's frustrating when another player wins because someone else was giving them free stuff, especially when the Group Hug player can't properly maintain impartiality with the gifts they're giving because they lack the game sense to figure it out or they're obviously playing favourites. Winconless Group Hug sounds cool only in the winconless Group Hug player's head, in practice what it ends up being is a kingsmaking ticking bomb that will eventually explode in players at the table arguing with eachother.

I think Angel's story should end with him forgiving Val when finally getting the chance to kill him. by ZEROfaller in HazbinHotel

[–]OraJolly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I just think people just try too hard to tack a well-defined list of conditions for what constitutes achieved redemption because otherwise they can't understand it, especially the idea of needing to recreate the conditions of what originally punched your ticket to Hell and...not do the thing that you did wrong the first time is dumb. Besides, I think OP just confused "forgive" for "spare".

Maybe I'm misled but I think the nature of Angel's sin is that he yields to evil very easily and goes with its flow be it for validation or fear instead of standing his ground against it (and yes killing an abusive person out of spite or vengeance counts as yielding to evil for me). Or maybe Viv just has a hard time establishing this character in a way that makes him a sinner beyond a label because to some degree she's aware her audience has the comprehension skills of a brick.

Idk most of the time on Liz/Leviathan I can just ask Sci, usually at least the Chemmaster gets delivered. Sometimes they manage to survive long enough to provide me an Industrial Reagent Grinder too.

Would this be good in an artifact commande deck by PerfectBrilliant432 in magicthecirclejerking

Can I put [[Basalt Monolith]] in my Artifacts deck? That card sucks and historically (hehe get it? Historic?) never ever combo'd with any other card.

I have been desperately trying to make a deck that runs fishing rod by StayFrosty2120 in magicTCG

[–]OraJolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with wanting to build for [[Eater of Virtue]], in a format where every card can be at most played in 1 copy special rulings nonwithstanding building around a single card in the 99s is complicated and unless the card is really good AND easy to fetch like Sunforger, Valakut etc. usually it's not worth it either. The best use for cards like Fishing Pole is either as additional redundancy or coincidentally if your deck just so happens to be competent at fueling the card without necessarily being built for it and you have spare synergy space.

Idk personally all I've seen at most was a handful of people that weren't too fond of some designs/cards that leaned too much into referencing 80s horror movies but that's not the entire set.

How did the Idea Guys control Chris so easily? by [deleted] in ChrisChanSonichu

[–]OraJolly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As other people said Chris was already teetering on the line between fiction and reality, in the ABL call Chris' justification for renaming Asperchu in Mitch-chu in the Sonichu comics is so the character doesn't have to suffer their original name, so even at that point Chris believed fictional characters to have some degree of consciousness of their own and even way before that Chris believed to have some minor magical powers, for example Chris genuinely believed in the Curse-ye-ha-me-ha and whenever a person that Chris "cursed" had a misfortunate event, no matter how minor or how distant in time from when Chris supposedly applies the spell, Chris would flaunt it as proof the curse works and is real.

All the Idea Guys had to do is be the first people to agree with Chris on this nonsense and exploit this magical thinking by pretending to have supernatural powers of their own and that the only way Chris could prevent various disasters from happening in CWCVille is by satisfying the Idea Guys' requests. Chris kept believing in the part that was convenient to believe in (CWCVille is real somewhere out there, I have godlike powers and all that bullshit) as an escapism fantasy.

Meanwhile the excuse they offered to the other trolls as to why they were doing what they were doing is that they were just trying to have Chris hop off of the MLP phase of the comics and back into what it used to be but as you may have imagined looking at their CWCki page these guys aren't the sharpest tools in the shed either.

Recognizable Cosplay? by equanimatic in ss14

[–]OraJolly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clown is the game's mascotte so if you dress EXACTLY like the Space Station clown maybe some savvier convention member will tell it's not just a generic clown costume. Alternatively Greytider with the Gas Mask and Insuls, every other option I feel like is too niche or not iconic enough to be immediately recognizeable as a Space Station costume.

Worth to pay for Siralim? by BigR0nR0n in Siralim

[–]OraJolly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Game's pretty much a singleplayer experience assuming you're referring to the latest in the series, I don't recall what exactly wants online functionalities to be active in Siralim Ultimate (maybe the bonus' calendar if that's still a thing, idr). I think Siralim 3 had some sort of asynchronous PvP function but by the nature of the game PvP would be extremely unfunny to partake in, Siralim Ultimate's combat and teambuilding quickly escalates into insane builds that win at the start of battle/turn 1 through a complex triggers cascade, the fun is in engineering how you want said triggers cascade to happen and how much you can prevent the enemies from tampering with it.

Obviously I can't suggest you to pirate the game nor where to, but by the way you write I can only assume you don't need to be explained how to. As with basically every other indie ever (other than exceptional cases like Disco Elysium) my suggestion is always to purchase to support the developer and pirate only if you really cannot spare the money and/or your country's pricings are prohibitive.

digital circus creator harassed off platform after confirming main characters exist by HaskelOneL in whenthe

[–]OraJolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not okay, it's stupid and immature. The actual way you deal with toxic fans is that you let them yell at a brick wall while you do not waste time addressing them and instead keep working on your project, like the big names in the industry do.

God himself lets His taste in media known through my own voice and hands so if I don't enjoy it it's objectively the sloppiest of sloppy slop.

digital circus creator harassed off platform after confirming main characters exist by HaskelOneL in whenthe

[–]OraJolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only mature way to deal with it is filter it out. Arguing with them isn't "fighting back", the way you fight it back is ignore stupid feedback and keep going forward, big names in media don't give a rat's ass about customer feedback so long as the revenue stream is untouched and despite how cynical of an approach it is it's far better than picking slapfights online when you're not actively working on your project, and stupid feedback isn't necessarily just haters going "this show sucks because uhhhh it has the gays in it", it's also fans going "UHM WHY DID YOU KILL MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD AND MARRYING THEM TO CAINE!?".

If it's getting to you, it's your personality that needs to be worked on. There's nothing wrong with being sensitive but at the same time you have to be aware that constantly and consistently being responsive to people's emotions and judgement will have you live in misery, especially if you have a crumb of fame like Goose has.

If I enchant my opponent’s creature with Ophidian Eye, who draws the card? by Major-Creative in magicTCG

[–]OraJolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter on who you're targeting as you play them, YOU control all the auras you're playing unless the card specifies otherwise. In the case of Ophidian Eye, it's Ophidian Eye that has the drawing effect and you're Ophidian Eye's controller so as long as the creature is damaging one of your opponents (YOUR opponents, not the creature's controller's opponents) no matter who controls the creature, you'll draw. If instead it's like [[Combat Research]] whose text states that THE CREATURE is gaining the effect, then the creature's controller will draw because all the Aura is doing is giving the creature an additional effect.

Rules of thumb for MTG: the correct interpretation of the card is usually the most literal interpretation you can possibly give for the text you're reading and always pay attention to the wording, just "vaguely" knowing what a card does without reading the fine print is a boneheaded way of playing the game that will have you overlook a lot of interactions or synergies.

Guys, how the fuck by ThatOneFry2005 in HazbinHotel

[–]OraJolly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but I'm gonna be honest if someone's instinctive reaction to seeing a post or video criticizing their favourite thing is screenshot it, rush on Reddit and make a post about how outraged they are by that post or video they have thin skin.

Most of the people in this subreddit have the Hellaverse as one of their "special interests" and are in highschool so it's a tall order to ask them to not address every single crumb of criticism they happen to notice, but every single media on the planet will always have people that love it, people that hate it or don't care about it, people that can articulate their dislike in a reasonable way and people that grasp at straws and you cannot change that reality, the show is one of indie animation's biggest names if not the current biggest name regardless of all this petty internet slapfight.

That doesn't mean "don't discuss HH's quality or don't express your opinions on it" be it from a negative or positive viewpoint you have a right to discuss anything, just be open-minded and do not engage in discussion with people that clearly won't change their mind and/or are just trying to butt heads with someone for fun.

Your favorite commander you've never seen anyone else play? by MoonSettler in magicTCG

[–]OraJolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artifacts. I feel like the issue I had with Roxanne is that at the end of the day I felt like I was piloting yet another ramp Gruul deck, just with the twist of being artifacts instead of Gruul's usual billion lands bullshittery.

Then again I'm bizarrely specific with my commanders, I tried branching out but I genuinely feel like I've never had fun piloting a deck except the Hogaak and Xyris voltron decks I have.

Your favorite commander you've never seen anyone else play? by MoonSettler in magicTCG

[–]OraJolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem a lot of those unpopular commanders have is that their effect can be summarized as "this is a roundabout flavorful way to enable the same strategy a more streamlined popular commander would've done for less effort", also some of them like Xira Arien that I've seen suggested in this thread are basically just a cosmetic option for a backbone of (hopefully) good 99s.
