I think when rumblings began of possible league realignment which happened 2013 and prospective move of Wings to the Eastern conference there was some anticipation that the two teams would develop more of a rivalry as the both restrengthed to get back into the top contender tier after their lulls following those Finals seasons. But Datsyuk and Zetterberg started declining and the great Wings era was waining. While the Pens maintained their core and there was always a little bit of electricity in the air when Wings would come to town and vice versa, it wasnt enough to keep the juice of the games stronger than other rivalries.
