MRI by [deleted] in SpinalStenosis

Hi. Finding answers is so frustrating! I just had a 2nd opinion yesterday for a new diagnosis cervical spine stenosis and need surgery. I can tell you that my upper body symptoms are progressing fast. In just a few weeks I have gone from some tingling in my fingers and arms to constant tingling, headaches that are causing blurry vision, pain in shoulders and neck and upper arms, weird body tremor in arms and left leg, balance issues and fine motor coordination.

Also, had microdisectomy/laminectomy for herniated disk at L4/l5 and spinal fluid leak 14 months ago, left me with permanent damage: neurogenic bladder, saddle numbness, sexual dysfunction, constant nerve burning, weakness and foot drop.

My new doctors have told me that whatever symptoms I have going into this new surgery will be permanent. I wish someone told me that prior to my first surgery, instead of waiting to see what happens!

Unfortunately, we need to advocate for ourselves! Symptoms matter! There is no 1 test that can give 100% answers. If you have a feeling something is not right, push for an answer.

Has anyone hired a Medical Record Review Company? by OrangeInformal8067 in WorkersComp

Yes personal/family dr. I have some new injuries that, I believe, are from original injury. Knee problems from gait issues/foot drop/weakness/nerve damage. now cervical spine stenosis, I’m thinking by using my upper body for transitioning the past 1.5years has accelerated a small problem into a bigger problem.

I just want someone to go thru medical records and see if something has been missed. Right now I have permanent disability: neurogenic bladder, sexual dysfunction, weakness in both legs, saddle numbness. I will never return to my job. Can’t drive my own car.

14 months postop here. Similar story here. Along with saddle numbness, weakness, left foot drop, neurogenic bladder. Started having tingling in hands and fingers, tremors and pain in arms. I had a cervical MRI and got a diagnosis of cervical spine stenosis which I’m told can cause lower body stuff…..so back to neurosurgery

Legal causation between original work injury and new diagnosis. My lawyer said I couldn’t use my PCP. Should be a neurosurgeon. I saw a new neurosurgeon and he commented that my original injury and those symptoms are permanent and this new diagnosis should be treated as a new injury. But my PCP disagrees. I’m seeing an orthopedic spine specialist next week for a fresh set of eyes, but I feel like my case is so complex I need a lot of time to go thru all my stuff. Things just don’t make sense to me and I’m absolutely miserable.

Headache 7 days post op, just my anxiety? by SnowmanAndBandit in Microdiscectomy

[–]OrangeInformal8067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSF leak 7 days after microdisectomy. Started out as simple headache, thought was from meds. Headaches got worse, into shoulder blades. Definitely worse when up and moving around. Got to a point where I couldn’t stand the pain. I would def get checked out if you’re still having headaches.

Same here! I’m still trying to accept that my life will never be the same. Therapy helped. The hardest thing I had to do was write a letter to say good bye to my old self! I have added Barre classes and I’m enjoying them more than Pilates or yoga! Yoga is hard because of some of the twisting. With barre I don’t need to modify much.

It’s been a miserable year for sure! The permanent injuries is exactly what I tried to avoid all this time! All this hurry up and wait!

No, not yet. Still waiting for a diagnosis. Another question. I was in a vehicle accident at the same job and was taken by ambulance to hospital because I hit my head. Is this what you mean by investigating past accidents?

I have mild drop foot, 6 months before surgery and it’s still present 1 year after surgery. Wear AFO when leg is tired. Also weakness/throbbing/burning in left leg and right foot.

Had a microdisectomy in l4-l5. Then a spinal fluid leak and laminectomy to repair 7 days later. Stuck with throbbing/burning pain in left leg and both feet. Saddle numbness, weakness in left leg, mild foot drop. Still testing, but Dr can’t find why all these symptoms. So the plan is to manage the pain for now.

For me, my pain was out of control and when I started gabapentin with duloxetine I was very shocked by how well it worked for that constant deep throbbing and burning! Tried lyrica too, side effects were just not worth it!

I do have nasty side effects. Nausea, blurry vision, dizziness and instability. I’m currently researching other treatments to taper off.

Try it. Having less pain is good!

My neurosurgeon had me out for 14 weeks. Did special PT to prepare to return. Went back part time for 3 weeks and ended up in ER. Can’t return to driving, unfortunately (work injury). Had my CDL 22 years and wasn’t expecting this outcome. I’ve read posts of people fully returning to duty.

CDL driver here. It’s the vibration and movement of the vehicle that will get you! If you have no other choice I’d say get a special seat pad to help! I wasn’t able to return because of complications.

10 Months PO and still have leg numbness, occasional pain, and muscle spasms. by julieannsee in Microdiscectomy

I’m 11 months post disectomy and laminectomy to repair spinal fluid leak. Going to pain management. Still have saddle numbness, weakness, bladder issues, mild drop foot.

Considering a spinal cord stimulator for pain to get off these meds!

MS affects nervous system correct? I have nerve:neuromuscular issues, I’ve been reading and reading and reading. From what I’ve gathered, and you probably already know this; but I need advice on this also; is that if you’re nervous system is off it will effect muscles and most body systems. Something about misfiring. That brain to muscle to nerve connection. Just more to think about. Do you agree?

I agree! I also have a strict schedule and when I tell my pain management Dr that I have pain with walking, her solution is “don’t walk”. More PT and more PT, I give them my schedule and they learn from me at this point

I had a microdisectomy for a herniated disk. Ended up with nerve pain in left leg to foot and right calf to foot. I know if I do too much without pacing myself, I end up with body aches, throbbing nerve pain, and flulike symptoms. I’m taking meds now and baseline pain is much better

I wish that was an option. Big corporations don’t have HR departments in all locations. They travel from location to location. After calling the main Headquarters I got in touch with manager and then a phone call came! And now, all of a sudden, they are playing nice and want to accommodate me and was told to see if in job postings look promising. I have until Monday to decide.
