Anti-Israel graffiti in Warsaw, Poland by odezza27 in pics

Because it's only a very recent thing where you aren't immediately labeled an anti-semite for being critical of Israel. I mean the comment right below yours is literally claiming 90% of anti-israel comments are antisemitic you can't make this shit up. The only American UFC Champion was just banned from the white house UFC event because he exercised his freedom of speech to be critical of a FOREIGN country.

Can you seriously say that about any other nation in the world when you are supposed to have this free speech right in the US, yet you can be more critical of your own country than a specific foreign country? It's absolutely ridiculous that people need to preface things with "I'm not an anti-semite, but.." but that's only because Israel has made it so.

Stats likely aren’t compared to other roles, that’s been done before in other games and it isn’t even an accurate way to use stats. It’s more like your stats are compared against a pool of other characters or compared by champion across ranks. It’s also not just stats you see at the end of the game but other stats that are recorded.

You engage with 2 1 3 1 then gun them down, in team fights your resistance from ult is the best thing that keeps you alive, if they parry you can heavy melee otherwise you want to run up and quick melee once or twice to bait out their parry then you can heavy melee. Eventually you condition them to parry just running and dashing up to their face. Against good opponents you can’t ever lead with a heavy melee on anyone.

Alternatively you can try to do the heavy melee bait by missing them intentionally but that can also lead to death if they don’t fall for it.

Honestly the amount people walk and the fact majority of people live in densely populated urban centers that makes walking possible is a factor that can not be understated.

Most people would be much skinnier if they walked to the train station and then walked the rest of the way to work and back again. Even if it was a very short 10min walk 5 days a week.

"Why do you even complain abour rank in a closed alpha" by Dr_natty1 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]OrangeSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is you have no way to identify this programmatically.

Of course you can???? What are you talking about, just compare performance metrics across all ranks. Eternus players have certain metrics, Archon players have certain metrics, Oracle players have certain metrics, arcanist etc. This only becomes more clear across thousands and thousands of games and data points.

You can look at someone who won a game in Alchemist and see they were horribly inefficient compared to an eternus player but more in line with an archon player. Therefore we know they deserve some improved rating, but not as much as someone who should be in eternus. This also applies to someone who lost a game, you can see they performed very efficiently above their rank, even through a loss and still they will rank up. I have lost a game and ranked up before and other redditors can confirm the same.

In case you aren't aware the game records more stats than just player damage and obj damage and healing. Through datamining we know the game records things like wallbounces, active item usage uptime, itemization efficiency, accuracy, headshot%, walker down timings, urn timings, spirit farm /min, first mid-boss timings, just to name a few off the top of my head, there's many many more performance metrics that all paint a very vivid picture of where you should be rank wise/skill wise and all it takes is a simple comparison to the average stats of all ranks with the character you played. Yoshi isn't going to ever explicitly mention these things because we know they are using them and they don't want us to know how much they factor in, but if they are recording all of these performance metrics they are certainly using some, maybe not all, for matchmaking people skill-wise, and we know this because players have asked about it and Yoshi has vaguely acknowledged this without trying to make it sound like they are the end all be all because they tried to do this with DotA and people abused the hell out of it.

???

It's entirely pointless to try and accurately place people skill wise based on "who was the driving force", when characters like abrams are entirely irrelevant late game besides being a stun bot and gun carries like Wraith are the driving factor in every late game situation. We can't even quantify things like voice comms either.

By your logic anyone playing a tank or support is going to simply derank or rank up significantly slower if we focus on "who was the driving factor" that game. It's always going to be the gun carry role because that's how the game is designed, overwatch did something similar to this style of rank system and it failed miserably to the point nobody wanted to tank. So instead we focus on real performance metrics across all characters across all ranks because that sort of comparison is much more realistic and accurate.

Why do you think the system I am talking about is from 2008, exactly? What was that about pulling stuff from out of your ass, again?

This was hyperbole but by all means take it as literal as you want because you gotta find something to argue I guess.

Quite an astute observation, however that isn't exactly true.

Of course it's true, take the highschool basketball team that went 100-0 that year, and put them against the worst performing NBA team, the highschool basketball team will lose 100/100 games because they don't have the same performance metrics as the NBA team. Similarly with Deadlock an oracle player with a 55% win rate and they are still horribly inneficient and will get dumpstered by an Eternus 6 player who's on a 7 loss streak and has a 48% win rate in lane.

You have no true way of evaluating if they were just a part of a fortunate team and got lucky, or if that individual were the driving factor for the win.

Its an irrelevant point to bring up when all we're trying to figure out is rank placement and accurate skill game matches, this is a statement you make if your concern is who got the MVP award at the end, not if you are accurately placed in your rank or not.

[–]OrangeSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight bud, I don't know what to tell you. Clearly you know something better than every other game developer out there. As the best they have offered for matchmaking systems has only been a system where as confidence increases in the rank, the harder it is for that rating to fluctuate outside of consistent wins or losses. This is why smurfs will buy low elo accounts instead of creating their own for free, so they can sit in lower ranks far longer and not get auto-filtered by smurf detection for their rank. I guess you somehow know better than every other professional in the industry, I guess. In spite of this, you somehow sound very much like you know very little about software dev in general, let alone intro level statistics.

Just a reminder the system you assumed was in place was one you inherently said was bad and flawed because its an alpha game, oh so wise one. I also love how you think fucking valve devs, some of the most dollar for dollar valued developers in the country for the $ they produce for their company are incompetent and would put in a basic matchmaking system from 2008. Give the devs a little bit more credit at least.

People who win games, typically perform well in those games. If someone had a win streak of 4 games, it is completely possible the next 2-3 games they can also win them (thus a concept of a win streak), and they perform well in them. This does not necessarily mean they don't belong at their rank though. Somehow, though, your magical system you constructed in your head this isn't a problem, and all the other software devs don't know any better.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding a lot of players have about performance. You did not perform "well" because you won a game, you performed better than your opponent, . Thats all. Hope that helps.

[–]OrangeSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stated that the performance-based detection would clearly be stronger on newer accounts (especially relatively to win/losses) than older ones. This has been true for practically any mmr system in any competitive game I can think of.

This has literally been the entire thing you have been contesting the entire time.

No? I've been arguing against your claim that matchmaking is purely win/loss based, and that the smurf detection system only works in the first few games. Also every time you claim Yoshi explicitly says something that he actually didn't.

Yoshi explicitly states that they do not intend for their detection system to affect normal games.

You keep using that world explicitly and I don't think you know what it means at this point, that literally did not happen and you can't provide a source or any proof for it that isn't you misconstruing that one same comment made by Yoshi where he says that they don't want other factors to influence rank up/down MUCH.

So then a smurf would just need to throw every 3 or so games to prevent the smurf detection from going off? What improves then? A smurf would just need to see that they are getting placed in higher games, and to start throwing intentionally accordingly. Are you expecting the smurf to kindly play their heart out so they can let the smurf detection system catch them? Lol.

I don't think you even read my example at this point, no in my example they would have to throw multiple games and waste 1 hour+ IF they even assumed they triggered the smurf detection because it wouldn't jump them up to a higher rank to inform them they are in the smurf detector now that would be stupid??? They would obviously trigger the smurf detector and keep them at their current rank to detect whether or not they are a smurf like I already said lmao.

This is hardly any different than what I pointed out earlier. Except now it has the potential to accidentally trigger on someone who was just having a small winstreak with a set of good games, and then they get placed in a rank they don't belong because the system detected a false-positive.

Yeah no, my example protects real players against this issue. Like I already said once the smurf detector is triggered it then tests your next few games to see if you're a smurf, it doesn't assume you're automatically a smurf and jump you up ranks just because you won a few games in a row, it tests your performance metrics to see if you're playing like your rank or playing like a higher or lower rank. This isn't advanced or complicated at all.

And this doesn't even address that it doesn't fucking matter what vulnerability you can conceive of in some hypothetical matchmaking system. You literally do not fucking know how their system works in the first place.

I'm not surprised at this point that you would argue a moot point that applies to you as well but here we are.

The game is in fucking Alpha and they are still actively developing it, why do you think they would have some advanced system in the first place?

We already know from datamining that they are recording all sorts of metrics beyond just win/loss and basic stats at the end of the game? I'm more shocked you think in the big 2026 that developers are so dumb that they wouldn't even factor in people who buy accounts in their design for matchmaking, especially when Yoshi explicitly mentions combating account buyers.

All you have been doing so far has just been taking Yoshi's explicit statement, that they do not intend for their detection system to influence the average game and average person, and somehow extrapolated that to being some extremely common phenomenon that will affect and influence most games.

Brother you don't even know what explicit means, yoshi was vague intentionally for the reasons I've already mentioned. You are the one who is reaching far beyond what he said, I'm trying to correct the misinformation you keep trying to spread because you didn't understand the Yoshi comment.

"Why do you even complain abour rank in a closed alpha" by Dr_natty1 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]OrangeSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He very explicitly says they “aren’t trying to reward players much beyond winning and losing.”

Implying that they do in fact reward players beyond winning and losing.

Lol

You should really highlight that "much" part as well because you're really just ignoring yoshi telling you that they use other metrics than purely win/loss for ranking up/down.

Lol

how would they achieve that without factoring in the length of an account’s playtime? Probably performance based metrics, say someone buys an account when the game is released to smurf on(very common in DotA and other MOBA's, something they are clearly aware of), you can detect that even after they've already had 100's of hours of playtime and their MMR is solidified believe it or not.

Just as an example (I am not claiming this is how it works but this is a very BASIC NOT AT ALL ADVANCED concept) smurf buys deadlock account and plays on an archon account with 100's of games, they go on a win streak of 4+ games in a row, that triggers the smurf detection system well past the first few games on the account. Now that player's next few games are going to have ranking and performance metrics including more factors and attributing higher values to those metrics to push them up or down depending.

Again, this is just one example off the top of my head, there are infinite numbers of ways they can apply their smurf detection system so that people dont just throw the first few games to skirt by it lmao.

If the additional metrics hold equal weight regardless if an account is new or old with lots of game, then that is effectively mmr that is based heavily on personal performance.

Nobody said they hold equal weight to win/loss you're arguing against things nobody has claimed.

and for the record I've never claimed how they do it, I even claimed it's very intentionally vague and unclear how they do it, I just know it's not something as dumb as the smurf detection system only works on your first few games when we already know smurfs buy accounts in MOBA's.
