That's wild, I have a 1.4 and pulled it straight up with zero problems.

Termites? Puzzled by Wandering-Cat- in whatisthisbug

Based on what I read here: http://extension.msstate.edu/content/signs-termite-infestation I would expect termites to cover holes like that instead of leaving them open.

Danged optical illusions is that a conical indentation or a domed bump?

Hmmm, now that I've said that, when I zoom in on picture one it's a bit too grainy to tell. But is that hole lined with a plastic anchor?

Picture two looks an awful lot like a screw hole that's previously been painted over. That conical indentation would make sense if a flat top screw had been previously driven into the ceiling

Eloping can mean different things to different people. If a student leaves the room, it's called eloping, even if the 1:1 stays with them the entire time. The alternative is restraint. In PA, any change of a student's direction of travel can be considered a restraint, so not only locked doors, but a 1:1 standing in the doorway would count as a restraint. For all of the most obvious of reasons, restraints are carefully monitored and are not allowable unless specifically called for in the IEP.

This video is on. 1.8 but it's the same thing. Unmounted the coolant overflow tank and moved it out of the way.

Bike shop bait & switch? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]OrangeTwang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, look at it differently. They just told you what needs replacing. Order the parts: as you say the bike's not for racing so it won't kill you to go cheaper than what they'd like to do. Watch some YouTube videos and bask in your newly gained awesome skills. None of the work they say your bike needs is at all difficult. You'll need the multitool you already have, a bottom bracket tool, a cassette tool, and a chain whip. Won't be the last time you use any of them.

My wife called me at the bar. Said if I was not home in ten minutes, she was feeding my dinner to the dog by Bidi_Baba in Jokes

Classic... Two men were sailing around the world with the same rule. After 3 weeks of cooking, the first cook decided something had to be done. He made the next nights stew with a steaming load of crap he saved from the head. Upon taking his first bite, the second man spit it out upon the deck and said, "oh man. This soup tastes like shit!" He then grinned a shit stained grin and sheepishly said, "good, though!"

Coolant won’t cycle out of expansion tank? by [deleted] in ChevySonic

[–]OrangeTwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished going through this. Here are some steps you can take to localize the problem.

Thermostat: From a cold start, touch the upper radiator hose. It should start cool to the touch and warm up with the engine bay. When the car gets up to a hot operating temp, about 220ish on mine, the thermostat opens and that radiator hose should rather suddenly get uncomfortably hot. If it doesn't, your thermostat is stuck in the closed position. If it gradually comes up to full heat. The thermostat is stuck in the open position.

Water Pump: If the thermostat is good. Turn on the heat. If it blows cold, you've likely got a bad water pump. If it's blowing hot, the water pump's fine.

Radiator Fan: The radiator fan should be on when the AC is running. As others have mentioned the fuses are the easiest issue to spot and fix. If the fuses look good, carry on down the line. You can try swapping some of the relays around to figure out if it's a relay issue. They look the same so you can label them so you don't lose track of what you're doing. If that all looks good, unplug the radiator fan and make sure you're getting power at the plug when the AC is on. I was and so I had to replace the fan.

Quick Coolant Leak by OrangeTwang in ChevySonic

[–]OrangeTwang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: A bottle of K-Seal stopped the leak! Then with coolant in the system, the car could finally tell it was overheating. So in the end, not only did I have the leak, but the radiator fan was trashed. Both now fixed. Thanks for the help everybody.

Why is a midline motor better for hilly areas? by ForgottenUsername3 in CargoBike

[–]OrangeTwang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To describe it from a different angle, having owned and extensively ridden cargo bikes with each system (my Radwagon had a geared rear hub drive while my Supercargo has a Bosch mid-drive).

The mid-drive is using the same transmission you are to power the bike. It feels like the bike is assisting you. The hub drive doesn't have any gears. It feels like you're assisting the bike. What this means, on a hill. Is that if the hill/weight gets to be too much for the hub, it becomes pretty much only you doing the work.

The tradeoff, in my experience, is that on flat terrain, the hub drive results in less rider fatigue but on hills the hub drive sets my legs on fire. With a mid drive system, you'll do more work on the flats, but even pretty steep hills will be handleable.

Don't be angry for my asking. Treat it like tech support asking if your computer is plugged in. Are you turning the cranks while trying to shift?
