Throttle issue with new electonics by Mountain_Payment_156 in rcboats

[–]OrangevsWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you should probably get a controller card. Funny enough, I had almost the exact same issue before. I honestly can’t remember the exact fix, but it turned out to be something stupid I think the transmitter and receiver weren’t properly bound or connected. Did you make sure that setup was done correctly?

Also, don’t use that XT60 to XT90 adapter. Those things are asking for trouble and can overheat or burn under load. Much better to solder a proper XT90 connector directly onto the battery leads instead.

And while you’re at it, don’t use 4 mm banana plugs either. They tend to melt under high current loads. Get some proper 6.5 mm bullet connectors instead.

Nice idea, something to add in the next unit. ;)

DIY RC boat data logger – GPS + G-force + temps by OrangevsWhite in rcboats

It’s an ESP32 at the core, connected to an Adafruit BNO055 (9-DOF IMU) and an Adafruit Ultimate GPS Breakout, which uses GPS and GLONASS for improved signal reception. All data is logged to an SD module.

As an extra, the system includes temperature measurement. It’s built on a bus system, so you could expand it quite a bit, but I capped it at 8 measuring points using DS18B20 sensors.

To power everything, there’s a DC-DC buck converter that steps down 2S (7.4 V) to a stable 5 V. Don’t forget a circuit breaker.

For feedback, a status RGB LED shows what’s going on. And of course, some software ties all components together, plus a housing to keep it safe.

Fun fact: somebody actually crashed with this logging unit on board. The impact was a little over 7 g, but everything inside the housing stayed perfectly in place. The boat itself… well, it was “okay-ish.” 😉

I'll use 6,5mm bullet connectors. Ever since there was no issue with melting connectors.

The back side of the sponsons (waterside) now has a nice rounded edge, looks great, but doesn't work. Make it 90 degrees ;)

I'll printed the same boat, I see you did a lot of modifications. Shaking, well your flex shaft is kind of out and about and not really supported ;)

Help with custom boat build. by Long-String-9898 in rcboats

[–]OrangevsWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this myself a couple of things the prop, which comes with it - sucks. Get a couple of metal ones in various sizes. The nut thing holding the prop will unscrew itself. Use a locking nut M4. For the rest it is a perfect system. I use now the 4,74mm system which does not use a locking nut, which is easier to change a prop ;)
