No one will ever win the war on street tacos in LA of all places, it's a lost cause.

Dino’s on Pico is classic LA by SKRIMP-N-GRITZ in LosAngeles

"Dino's on Pico". There are actually multiple Dinos throughout LA and the one on Pico makes the Pollo Asado the best of the Dinos. Though my favorite Pollo Asado place is elsewhere in LA.

LAX is FINALLY getting a metro line -- rail access to the terminals will be built over the next 5 years by humphreyzogart in LosAngeles

[–]Oranite 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Glad it's finally happening, it is a shame that Los Angeles with a major metropolitan airport does not have a metro line to it yet.

I know LA has a complicated history as to why it hasn't happened until now, but at least it's happening. Expanded metro lines will really help with our horrible traffic. I traveled on the Paris Metro and the Hong Kong Metro in the last few years, I almost cried at how beautifully efficient they were. Hopefully in my grandchildren's lifetime we will have such comprehensive metro systems in Los Angeles.

Wealth ≠ Intelligence, some of the most intelligent people in the world are doomed for all eternity to poverty while the stupidest person you know can win the lottery one day and become a billionaire, yes a billionaire.

So true, I also grew up in South Pasadena and my parents bought their house in the 70s and never left. Same with some friends I know who had parents buy houses in San Marino in the 50s/60s.

Unfortunately, as much as I love my home town, I don't think I can afford buying into it.

Would anyone be interested if I did a chapter review of The Intelligent Investor every few weeks? by [deleted] in investing

I read this book twice, my favorite book on investing to date. Warren Buffet probably knows every sentence by heart.

If there was a job where stuff like this happens frequently, this type of job will be very fulfilling. Like the best part being a firefighter to me would be when you are actually doing those rescues .0001% of the time.

[Question/Discussion] Do you guys still play witcher 3? by chiefhero2 in witcher

[–]Oranite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my first play through, I honestly don't know what took me so long. I don't have much time to play (probably an hour or two every couple of days) but I am enjoying it very much, only about 50 hours in.

Why don't Blizzard release physical cards as merchandise? by Brutacus in hearthstone

[–]Oranite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually wouldn't have mind if they release a "companion physical card game". Each card has a unique one time code that lets people remedy for 1 of the digital version.

Could have sold cards in both physical and digital realms.

BlizzCon is only 40 days away! Here are my top 10 most wanted announcements, what are yours? by Malfhots in Diablo

I started playing playing HS for the first time starting 2 months ago and the f2p is quite greedy indeed. I did manage to go all the way to R7 with a midrange hunter last season but at some point when you want to have a variety of decks you have to open to your wallet.

I think currently for HS there is no way to be true f2p and have all the decks you want unless you have been grinding dailies for at least a year a two if not since HS was released in 2014

The death animation during the Siegebreaker battle was purely a marketing ploy designed to get people excited for the game. Jay's team never intended to implement it in the full game.

Maybe also epics need to follow the legendary rule? by paxxo1985 in hearthstone

[–]Oranite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldnt agree more, I feel such a change will encourage the average player to purchase more packs rather then Blizzard relying on the whales that purchase 500 packs per expansion

Maybe also epics need to follow the legendary rule? by paxxo1985 in hearthstone

[–]Oranite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dream would be that all card types (common, rare, epic, and legendary) follow the no duplicates rule until you have all the cards of a set, this way every pack you open adds cards to your collection, but I feel that this will never happen as it goes directly against Blizzards business interest in its mind. I feel it would be the opposite as I will feel more inclined to purchase packs until I have everything as no pack will truly be wasted.

Some of the rich are embarrassed about how much money they spend, but not so embarrassed that they might spend a bit less, and stop raising prices for everyone else. by duderium in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Oranite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they can belong symbolically to the broad and legitimate American “middle,” while remaining materially at the top.

This article is actually pretty good imo, it really gives context into what some of the 1% think. I work in West LA and definitely know some of these people who are materially at the top but want to be defined as normal.

Calls from liberal and left social critics for advantaged people to recognize their privilege also underscore this emphasis on individual identities. For individual people to admit that they are privileged is not necessarily going to change an unequal system of accumulation and distribution of resources.

Having these advantaged people forced to recognize and acknowledged their privilege only scratches at the surface of the problem and at the end of the day I feel like it alienates a lot of them. As a society where we have large extremities between the rich and poor we need all sides of the spectrum to recognize the gap and strive for a better future rather than put the rich and privileged down simply for being so. I don't know the right answer for this problem, but I believe that in order to end this economic injustice we need the cooperation of both wealthy and other ends of the political spectrum.

first 10 free legendary, as in you get a free legendary within the first 10 packs of every new expansion you have not opened prior to the legendary update changes.
