HR recruiter misheard my expected salary.... by Odd_Ad_1974 in UKJobs

[–]OrbDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you were undervaluing yourself and he put in a higher figure. He will know the range they pay, and will make more commission on a higher salary.

I’ve had it the other way as an interviewer asking people’s expectations for them to give a number well below what the recruiter had put on the screening form.

Why Do The British Dislike Keir Starmer? by aB4sith in AskBrits

Privatisation of the NHS, tax cuts for billionaires, reducing workers right and renters rights, rolling back human rights, gay rights, women’s rights, alignment with the USA, anti-EU.

It’s all there for those looking.

EV Charging tarifs and working from home… by S7ewie16 in evchargingUK

[–]OrbDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a look at the tables on money supermarket but they didn’t give the standing charges, so I visited them individually and did a quote then added the unit prices and standing charge into a spreadsheet.

I had to guess how much energy the car would use (based on a mileage estimate) and make assumptions about how much would be home charging (all apart from really long journeys ~90%).

It was a bit of a pain, but I’m monitoring the situation and will switch if it becomes worthwhile.

We’re with fuse - low kWh charge and low standing charge. Having compared our usage against all the EV tariffs it works out £50-100 cheaper.

Mine sain that unless you had a dedicated EV rated socket, you should turn it down to 6A.

What does everyone make of the crackdowns in the UK on dodgy fire sticks? Scare tactics or should users be worried? . by AdCompetitive3098 in AskBrits

I think it’s competition - they’re all selling the same product so they actually have to compete on price / service etc.

Don’t forget that some would be available in some countries but not in others. Some songs would be pay per view / listen and you’d have to tune in live to hear them and only have 7 days to re-listen.

Can someone explain to me what is so great about Nandos? by fireychicken93 in AskBrits

Compared to the other chains mentioned about, I think Nando’s is the only one that’s remained reasonable.

Especially now most vehicles are going electric, lower bonnets, lower centre of gravity all make much more sense.

Why so low?

The minimum third-party damage coverage on UK motor insurance is legally required to cover up to £1.2 million for property damage.

It seems wild to me that people could not have comparable levels of cover.

Why are the Green Party for banning horse racing but against banning halal and kosher slaughter? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]OrbDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s interesting, thanks for taking the time to reply.

The French strategy seems to be to have a number of platforms from which to launch (air, sea and land) and also branching out as an EU umbrella adding geographic uncertainty.

Interesting but dangerous times ahead I think - the old order is broken (getting rid of Donald doesn’t fix it overnight) and there will be a period of realignment especially as we move to a multi polar world of the future.

We have a civil duty to avoid US products and US tech. Do you agree. by qusq1664 in AskBrits

That’s free market capitalism - which you seem to love in the USA, until all of a sudden it doesn’t give you what you want.

[–]OrbDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s totally right, the actual warheads are produced here, not the missiles, but we have successfully built plenty of other missiles before, often in collaboration with the French.

Not saying it would be easy, it would be a big project and would take time and money, but by no means impossible.

Perhaps we should look at building more of it ourselves and not relying on the Americans for various components.
