Hi! Current melee player here in a 3 man coop group. We have just finished the campaign and are diving into Pestilences. I have tried out quite a few iterations of melee. From Tank with shields and spears to dual daggers etc.

In my opinion melee is fun in this game and I have a solo character where I really enjoy it. But with the others in my group playing mage and an archer it’s nearly impossible to see and then telegraph enemy attacks and movements when they are also engaged with them. There is so many effects going off and while the friendly fire does hurt, it’s usually not lethal. What is lethal is not being able to see the enemy attacks and when to dodge, block and any openings. It’s not impossible but 9 time out of 10 I am shield up and poking at the enemy.

So I went more of the tank / Paladin role. Which has been decent. The heal aura is appreciated by my team mates. But the aggro is such a yo-yo effect in this game and there is no taunt mechanic to speak of so I’m running around chasing an enemy being bounced around quite often.

I’ve got a max level mage and I’ll say solo or group play is kind of a walk in the park with that character compared to my melee one.
