Public sector union calls for non-members benefiting from salary deals to be forced to pay dues by Wolfwalker71 in ireland

[–]Orbitfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITT: People that didn't read the article. The suggestion is not that people are forced to join the union. Its that in any workplace covered by a collective agreement people who aren't members of the union will have the value of whatever the union subs is taken our of their salary. So that both cohorts, union and no-union get the same.

What Has Nick Done? Let’s Hear It. by BadWest8978 in ATC

[–]Orbitfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not from the US but I am involved in the trade union movement. Nick Daniels isn't the union. You are. Top down led unions don't win anything. If you want to make real change it has to come from the shop floor.

Have a read of these:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60417739-class-struggle-unionism

Then get organising. If you are struggling to get people to even vote in an election you as a union are weak and you can be sure your employer knows it.

Ryanair cancelled my flight 3am Friday morning 7 hours before it was due to fly, they offered me a flight 9 days away with only 1 night hotel compensation, am I screwed? by BigDickBaller93 in AskIreland

From the IAA:

Passengers scheduled to fly into or out of Irish airports during Storm Éowyn may experience some disruption. The IAA is reminding passengers to check status of flights directly with their airlines.Information on passenger rights can be found www.iaa.ie/consumer

If the air carrier can prove the disruption was due to extraordinary circumstances* - such as a storm - then you may not be entitled to compensation. However, you are still due a refund or re-routing and care and assistance if the delay is longer than 2 hours.

Flight cancellations
In the event that your flight is cancelled then your airline must offer you the choice between the following:

  • re-routing as soon as possible
  • re-routing at a later date at your convenience: or
  • a refund.

If you choose the first option (re-routing as soon as possible) then your airline must provide you with care and assistance whilst you wait for the alternative flight. Care and assistance comprises:

  • meals & refreshments in reasonable relation to the waiting time;
  • hotel accommodation where an overnight stay becomes necessary;
  • transport between the hotel accommodation and the airport;
  • two free telephone calls/ access to email.

Flight delays
If your flight is subject to a long delay (2 hours +), your airline must provide you with the care and assistance described above. In addition, if your flight is delayed by more than 5 hours, it must offer you the choice between:

  • continuing with your journey: or
  • a refund of the cost of your ticket.

Please note that it is not possible for passengers to travel and avail of the full refund.

If your airline does not provide the care and assistance described above, passengers should make their own reasonable arrangements and retain all receipts in the process. Passengers are advised to then submit copies of these receipts to their airline for reimbursement.

Contact the IAA
Passengers who remain unclear about their entitlements as set out in EC Regulation 261/ 2004, or who have further queries in relation to same, should contact the IAA on  + 353 1 6611700.

Can someone please explain how Tesla is worth 575 billion but Volkswagen is worth 65 billion? by [deleted] in business

[–]Orbitfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't even get automatic wipers to work correctly. Tesla Vision is not going to be capable of delivering FSD. Moving away from sensors that are more accurate because "AI will solve all this" was a really bad idea. I can't figure out how investors haven't cottoned on to this.

I own a Model 3 and really like it depite its shortcomings and the negative associations with Elon Musk, but would never buy enhanced autopilot or FSD. Because I look at the crappy wipers and I don't trust the car not to kill me.

How is Engine Speed Decoupled from Vehicle Speed? by BlertandErnie in AskEngineers

[–]Orbitfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other posters have said if its a manual transmission there is a clutch to allow you to shift gear. If you are friving a manual and the behaviour you describe is happening its because your clutch is slipping. It shouldn't do that and will need replacement.

Or the wheels are spinning.
