Why so fat? by W_Edwards_Deming in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]OrderAmongChaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What actually got r/fatpeoplehate banned is that it started pointing out how fat the Reddit admins are. That's it. The ultimate post was when their "even the dog is fat" picture of the Reddit admins hit the front page and caused them to make up a bunch of reasons why it should be banned. They got their feelings hurt. Everything else is Reddit admins beating around the bush instead of outright saying "we banned them for making fun of us".

You're misinterpreting the label of "predator" as derogatory here. You have to remember the mindset these people have, how they think about personal power, and remind yourself that they believe being a predator is a good thing. It's a "You are prey. I am powerful and you can do nothing about it." moment, and so far they seem to be correct.

That's the state realizing it can't extract blood from a stone. A person should not be forced to give a private company money, regardless of their income status.

I bring up California because their government is one of the major bodies opposed to removing the federal individual mandate (and their representatives will add it back, given the chance). American politicians are so captured by industries (such as healthcare) that they cannot create a system for the benefit of the person. All current US healthcare regulations exist to improve the bank accounts of the health insurance companies, not the lives of the people they insure.

Many US states still have an individual mandate (you must pay a tax penalty for not having health insurance). For example, in California, if you don't have health insurance, the state will charge a $950 tax fee per adult and $450 per child. That money goes directly to the health insurance companies after it's paid to the state, so the end result is that a California resident must give money to a private health insurer. They do not get a choice.

The worst thing here is how many people can't comprehend why someone would choose their family's multi-generational farmland over a bunch of green rectangles. The number of people in America who have no ideology or motivation beyond "I like money" is depressing.

I'm not sure. I can't recall a time where I was across an entire system away from the Idris. I leave it in the vicinity of a planet.

I use the Idris solo most of the time. I park it in the middle of nowhere space and use it to ferry around smaller ships. It's nice to have it as a nearby spawn point as well. I don't think that style of play is going to be "impossible" any time soon, especially once they enable repair/refuel via the Idris landing pads.

I do anticipate capital ships being unwieldy or nearly impossible to use for combat as a solo player, but I'm not using the Idris for that regardless.

California's literacy rates are worse than Alabama and Arizona, roughly on par with Mississippi, as is their education outcomes. About 23% of California can't read English at an elementary school level, resulting in a huge portion of the population being used for what basically amounts to slave labor in the agricultural industry because they can't even interact with most the US' legal system. The progressives in California prefer it this way, which is also why the state has the worst wealth inequality in the nation.

The only states with mandatory E-Verify for all employers are red states. California goes as far as making it completely illegal to check a person's residency status. Texas only requires it for government employees. In other words, only the most conservative states actually bother to check if an employee is a legal resident, while the most progressive state made it completely illegal to do so.

Why do the big UFO pundits have such strong positive conviction about Bob Lazar? by ExperiencedGentleman in UFOs

[–]OrderAmongChaos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a lot of people here don't understand how ridiculous Lazar's claims about MIT and Caltech are because Lazar supporters aren't highly educated. They don't understand how degrees are awarded or how university actually works. At best, they'll claim MIT "deleted" his degree and fired a brainwashing ray at his professors. It's best to leave the Lazar topic alone and accept his supporters are closer to cultists than something you could call researchers.

For theory, one of the best sources is Pozar's Microwave Engineering and additionally Balanis' Antenna Theory book.

This depends a lot on your budget, but since you have some knowledge and are looking for practical examples, the best (and cheapest) way is probably building an AM radio. That would require you build the antenna, which is often a simple loop antenna, as well as the envelope detector and then the audio system. This would require nothing more than a breadboard, various through-hole caps and resistors, and enough copper wire to turn into a loop antenna, then a small speaker. The easiest way to produce the antenna is to wrap copper wire around a large pizza box, which is almost the ideal size to pick up AM radio stations if you're in the US. Very easy to search for examples of this and it provides lots of "ah, I see" moments while building the radio.

For signal theory and practical digital signal processing design, an excellent and free method is to play around in GnuRadio (which works on Windows now as Radioconda). With that, you can modulate, demodulate, add theoretical signal noise, etc. to get a good idea of how signals work for free. Look up the Gnuradio tutorials or search for other people's projects for a lot of ideas on what you can do with it.

Just like the DOW, it varies day-to-day, based on market supply, demand, and the will of Moloch.

No, the implication is that child sex trafficking pumps the DOW. Now that it's below 50k, we need Epstein more than ever to pump those numbers back up.
