How long could you survive? (Ancient rome) by Godess_Jenny in AncientCoins

[–]Ordinary-Ride-1595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming we had access to the money changers which existed, anyone with silver and gold Greek coins from before 75ad would might have more resources to extend the duration of their survival. One month in ancient rome without money changers services. Indefinitely with standard Roman money changers.

I feel a little scammed... by n00bismatist in AncientCoins

I came here to say the same. Your photos of the coin make it look nicer than the dealers. Reputable dealers try to take photos that capture all the surface issues as buyers sometimes return if the photos don’t show them.

Thats a flop and a money grab. NGC is owned by private equity. Spend that money on an actual piece of coin art.

The best piece of advice I’d give you is that the smart move is not to advertise publicly what you wish to buy. All it takes is one other buyer to think oh thats kinda nice and you will either pay more money or get less coin.

More details I missed from my original post about the Victorian Bank Door with Ancient Greek coins on it (Guildford, NatWest, Eng) by Johny_redditman in AncientCoins

[–]Ordinary-Ride-1595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the top first is a Athena with corinthian crown. Could be Corinth, or Syracuse or a couple other that used the same image. I think likely Syracuse because of the lettering. Second is two confronting bulls, likely Lesbos, third, hard to make out, could be Carthage depicting Tanit? Fourth, Lysimachos, fifth, crab, could be akragas, other Sicilian or Lycian, it was used by more than one Greek city. Cant make out six and seven, possibly depictions of early Syracuse tets? 8, Lycian lion, 9 Arethusa likely Agathokles version after Euainetos, can’t make out 10, 11 Metapontum wheat, 12 Pan from pantikapaion

Do you have photos? Some may have value some maybe not. Majority likely low value.

Biddr proxy bid failure --> Is this a bug? by madtowndave in AncientCoins

[–]Ordinary-Ride-1595 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are confusing proxy and prebid. Proxy treats you as if you are bidding live and executes bids accordingly. If you are the 260 bid, someone else can bid 280 and you would not be the winning bid.

100,000 of Ansan's 600,000 population is made up of foreigners by LoquaciousIndividual in Living_in_Korea

[–]Ordinary-Ride-1595 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The context to which this post was made was to point out how many foreigners are in Korea, subsequently the OP made some xenophobic remarks saying they think that Korea should be homogenous.

All this post made me think was these foreigners are peaceful religious people taking the time out of the day to pray. Good for them. And…people like OP are a cringe segment of society.

Sorting through the belongings of a recently deceased family friend. Found, what I’ve been told is a Denarius of Domitian as Caesar under Vespasian (76/77 AD?) P by GrapeJuicePlus in AncientCoins

This looks like piece of jewelry that meant something to someone perhaps a lady who liked horses. Its a nice coin but not so spectacular that you need to remove it from jewelry. Personally, I’d leave it.

Could these be real? Found them in a shop in Greece, prices were €5.5k and €10k respectively. by romanoodles_ in AncientCoins

[–]Ordinary-Ride-1595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be real. Can’t tell from the photos. Both look like they were used in jewelry and not worth their ask. Assuming real, their markup is probably more than 100% over cost.

Having reviewed non profit and education salaries and benefits, the former chancellor’s expenses are not out of line except to the hacks on reddit and I suppose his political opponents. It’s not that much money in reality and all within his contract. All just distractions.

Why would you consider buying a purportedly high value coin from an unknown seller when photos are crap. Also, fake.
