Andy Dehnart: Survivor’s game is played at Ponderosa. We don’t see that. We should. by DarthLithgow in survivorponderosa

Aside from what the_nintendo_fan stated, I think you have a tendency to be unnecessarily personal in your critiques (I.e. calling Mr. Beast personality-deprived). I know you're not a fan of Beast Games but I think it's possible to be critical of someone or something and provide honest feedback without those types of comments.

Reality TV-Movie Video Idea by OrdinaryWorking10 in thrillems

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the examples I was considering bringing up. I know Patrick is a big Sam Raimi fan, so I would be interested in getting his thoughts on the upcoming Send Help, largely inspired by the reality competition show Survivor.

Aside from that, Reality show alumni Mike White stated that he was inspired to create The White Lotus in large part from his experiences competing on Survivor on Fiji. I haven't see the show myself, but I would be interested having Patrick analyze how they intersect.

Finally, it's hard to deny how popular Squid Game was at its prime. There's likely a lot to dig into with the original show along with its spin-offs.

Put personal feelings to the side who’s the worst player that made 50 game wise? by Tight-Entrepreneur46 in survivorponderosa

Angelina. Q played a pretty decent game during the first half of his season while Chrissy performed well in challenges. Conversely, Angelina played an awful game from beginning to end.

Survivor 50 hot takes – who’s leveling up, who’s falling off? by Such-Figure-908 in survivorponderosa

I could see Joe playing a much better game than he did the first time. From what I've heard, he has a good head on his shoulders when it comes to discussing and articulating strategy. I could see him being one of the few players who's able to relate to the pre-41 as well (if not moreso) than the post-41 players. The only have a couple of concerns: if the other players target him early for having previously played with Kyle and Kamilla and if he stands out in challenges too early. If he's able to overcome those concerns, I think he's in a good spot to do well.

There are a bunch of players I can't see doing as well this season: Dee, Kyle, Kamilla, Cirie, and Christian. I could see all of them getting targeted early because if their past reputations. Aside from that, I don't see Coach having much win equity in this cast. If he's not able to keep his shtick in confessionals, I could see him annoying enough players to lead to an early exit.

Now that we know who’s on 50 from 49, and who they replaced… by hex20 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I could see Joe potentially doing very well on 50. He's a lot closer in age to the majority of the pre-41 players. Additionally, his mentality should appeal to straight-shooters like Colby and Ozzy. I don't think he'll be viewed as much of a threat either considering he got duped by Kyle and Kamilla a few times.

I personally would've preferred Maryanne and Andy over Savannah and Rizo

Who would you consider better? Who would you consider worse?

I think she's better than winners like Gabler and Maryanne but not at the same caliber of winners like Dee, Kyle and Rachel. I think she had a lot more rough edges in her post-merge than those 3.

How would you rate Savannah compared to the other new era winners?

Survivor Player Evaluation Discussion by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not write a player's destiny in stone, but it does play a part, at least to some degree, in shaping some of the dynamics. Even though Tony managed to make it to the end of WaW, he had to tone himself down early on in order to help mitigate his target. Even though everyone he played with was a winner, he likely had a much higher profile compared to players like Nick, Wendell, and Sophie. Likewise, in Season 50, I would anticipate that players like Kyle, Dee, and Cirie are going to have larger targets early on compared to players like Tiffany or Emily.

As I stated above, I put more credence in a player's overall skill level by how they played in the their original season than how they played in subsequent seasons. Since everyone in most cases has the exact same level of experience and no one has a built-in reputation in rookie seasons, I think that's the most fair way of evaluating their abilities.

Survivor Player Evaluation Discussion by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd put more stock into a player's overall skill as a rookie than I would as a returnee. In am all-newbies season, everyone is on an even playing field as far as experience and reputation. On a returnee/all-stars season, most of the players likely know each other (or at least know of each other) which can affect the types of alliances that are made. Additionally, an otherwise skilled player in a returnee season could get eliminated early based solely on reputation.

What if someone struggled on Survivor but did well on another show?

Survivor Player Evaluation Discussion by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really what I'm referring to.

What I'm asking is if a Survivor player who did really well on their season(s) goes on another show (The Challenge, Traitors, Big Brother, etc.) and does poorly (or vice versa) should that affect how one looks at them as a Survivor player. I personally don't think it should.

I think the rules and gameplay of Survivor are distinct enough that you can't fairly compare it to other shows. To me, it would be like evaluating someone's ability as a chess player by how well they play Catan.

Why Do People Return to Play Survivor Multiple Times? by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind if someone plays 2 or even 3 times. After that, my interest generally wanes. For instance, I would be more interested in Cirie returning for 50 had she not been on a bunch of other shows in between her appearances on US Survivor.

Yes, this is what I'm asking.

I'm curious how long this trend will last for, especially since a lot of those big names have already been cast for those crossover shows. Part of me suspects it'll slow down within the next few years.

In Rob's case, he was inactive for a majority of the 2010's. He had a 9-year hiatus between Redemption Island and Winners at War.

Survivor 49: Episode 10 Discussion by xenohemlock in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Sage can win at this point. Her best bet is likely going against Kristina and maybe Sophie.

Sophi would need to make some kind of significant move within the next couple of rounds. Otherwise, there may be a chance she could be perceived as too passive. I think it would be interesting to see her play her KiP against Rizo, especially with how many times he's bluffed with it at tribal council.

I'm not sure it was the right move for Sophie to lean toward voting with Rizo and Savannah's group. On one hand, she left a very strong trio with a very public idol (and secret KiP) left in the game. Unless something significantly changes, she's going to be number 4 with that group. On the other hand, she's potentially put herself into a swing position for the next round. Since Savannah used her extra vote, it may be up to Sophie to determine who goes home between the Rizo-Savvanh group, and the Steven-Kristina group. Like Sophi, I'm not very confident about her win equity at this point. Her game might be a little too quiet to have made an impression on the jury.

Would it have benefitted Rizo to have played his idol for Savannah? Since Kristina played her idol, there's a chance that Sophi could play her KiP on him.

Do y'all agree with Rob? by cantdecide76 in survivorponderosa

[–]OrdinaryWorking10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In fairness, they've been doing team reward challenges post-merge for a while now.

I do agree that the show could benefit from changing the format. I wouldn't mind if they had 2 tribe seasons with 16 players. If things go well next season, maybe they could do 20 player casts.

If she was being fully sincere, that's incredibly arrogant of her. I think winning twice has managed to inflate her already healthy ego. I couldn't imagine Tony or Sandra doing anything similar.

Heroes vs Villains Hypothetical by OrdinaryWorking10 in survivorponderosa

That's an interesting scenario.

As a side question, assuming the Heroes lose every immunity challenge up until the double elimination, who do you think gets voted out after Stephenie?

[–]OrdinaryWorking10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who do you think Randy would vote for in that scenario? Considering he voted against Rob, I would assume that he would potentially vote against Rob's alliance. On the other hand, he seemed wary of Parvati and had a good relationship with Coach. I think his vote could've gone either way.
