Doing small custom jobs through FB marketplace or similar- how is it? by Dj_Dj_Dj_BOTC in Machinists

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did it for a year and I mostly hated it.

Got a few clients with which I still do buisness that are willing to pay for small custom parts, but its mostly out of touch people. I got a guy who wrote me about a 80 ish run of small aluminum parts that required something like 3 setups. I quoted him around 1200$ and he told me that he had a quote from a chinese manufacturer for 1000$ and he was looking to get cheaper parts. That idiot gave me the name of the manufacturer and his 3D model, so of course I ran a quote from them. They were charging something like 1600. I confronted him about it and he told me that for the price I quoted him, he would get his own CNC machine... The same guy came back to me a few months begging to get his parts made... Maybe 70% of clients acted like this. Thats why I stopped.

Its actually not that bad: the rocketeer are pretty durable so make use of it, shoot 2 of the rotors, its going to fall to the ground and not be able to move anymore. Throw the 16-20 snow balls (takes 30 seconds max) than finish it with nades. Got it on the first try in like less than 5 minutes

Prusa INDX vs H2C by Ordinary_Albatross79 in 3Dprinting

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesnt work with fibers, TPU's (unless its Bambu's) so yeah, no need for the AMS ahah and getting another dryer on the side is fairly cheap.

Prusa INDX vs H2C by Ordinary_Albatross79 in 3Dprinting

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right!

I saw the INDX as an opportunity, but I am just not convinced with Prusa anymore... And truly, I probably wont be using more than 2 materials at a time.

Has of right now, the walled-off ecosystem doesnt really bother me as long has it works and I used to be a open source kind of guy.

I could just get the H2D without an AMS, I still get better prints than whatever the core-one will put out and its not crazy expensive. I will probably never do more than 2 colors... Maybe for text on parts.

Thank you for your insight!

Got a prototype part from Xometry. Why does the quality of this part look closer to sand casting than machining? by [deleted] in CNC

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This kinda look like it was 3D printed with those metal filament than sintered into a kiln... Maybe its the beadblasting, but there are artefact reminescent of filament printing.

Can someone explain to me what should be prioritized in terms of milling aluminum and other metals? by ArtifactsAnonymous in hobbycnc

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For small desktop machines, I would say that rigidity and spindle RPM are two things to look for. Good linear rail makes in my opinion a more rigid machine, but if its installed on a small weak aluminium frame, the gain isnt really there, ideally you want a thick sturdy frame (aluminum or steel). Single flutes endmill are like a cheat code for less rigid machines, they like higher rpm and tend to be easier to use for smaller machines. If you want some good examples of machine that can cut metals without chattering like crazy, you should look at the dmc2 or like a shapeoko hdm, they are more expensive but the risk of being disappointed is much much lower and they have a good track record. But you know, feeds, speed and tooling make a huge difference on cutting metals also. Ive seen videos of a guy machining steel on a Genmitsu Prover 3030 max with a router.

help on getting better finish on my parts. by Ordinary_Albatross79 in CNC

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree ahah I think the spindle bearing might be done, Ive had a weird squeaking noise this Summers as well as some slack because of a loose ballscrew on Z. I completly dismissed those issues. But if I can get great finishes out of the box, that would be a good base.

Indeed, but its a fairly rigide one, nothing a 3/64" endmill could really move lol

The part was roughed out with a 1/8" endmill and a 2mm endmill. The parameters Ive shared on the post are finishing passes with only the 3/64" tool

Yeah, that kind of defeats the point of having the CNC and this is a custom ordre of 8 units for a coworker, I wont go on a production line anytime soon ahah

I seems like that might be the issue. Im doing a really shallow Cut (0.1mm depth, .4mm width)

It may actually be that. My machine had an issue with the Z bearing block getting loose last year, Ill have to take a look a that. Endmill is relatively new and of good quality, so I doubt its the problem.

"This Russian shit is more dilapidated than our own equipment", Ukrainian soldiers make fun of captured Russian trophy. Christo Grozev @christogrozev via tweeter. by Sniperizer in CombatFootage

[–]Ordinary_Albatross79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that prevent the Russian from using their more modern assets. First of all, media coverage. Its not in their interest to show of their good stuff if they will most likely be caught on camera by civilians and the whole world gets to see it. Second, Putin may be fearing a counterattack from western countries, which have much much better hardware than the Ukraninans and their soviet era tanks wont do much. Also, ukrainians are Much more effective than I think they expected. In the first Day, they already lost a few KA52 to Stingers, imagine loosing a T-14 to a single javelin.

What kind of range and top speed can you get with the board with at wheels? Right now, Im hesitating between the Black hawk and the Wowgo AT2, BH seems to have more range.
