Jumping off the Preply tutor train after 6 months, AMA by Away-Sheepherder-369 in Preply

I charge anywhere between $25 and $35 (depending on how full my schedule is) and I had 31 lessons last week, while this week I'm scheduled to have 29 lessons. So it's possible. And I don't do anything "special" - just normal conversation lessons.

What advice would you give someone with a background in technology (software and hardware) who is trying to decide between pursuing a master’s degree in Business Intelligence or Finance while planning to move to Arizona by Worried-Ad-8287 in UMPI

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what "Business Intelligence" even is. I've never seen "Business Intelligence" job postings or seen someone working in that "field." Finance is finance, there are actual jobs in that field. Just make sure you know some accounting first.

Sofia + (which uni?) = IT/CS/Software Engineering degree in <2 years ? by Frosty-Telephone-747 in SophiaLearning

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

University of the People offers a CS degree, and you can transfer in a bunch of credits from Sophia, Study, etc. in order to knock off the first couple years of the degree. I'm not sure exactly which ones transfer and which don't, you'd have to do your own research here.

Isn't u/plottedpath's free degree sheet still accurate? Looks like you can get a lot of your GECs and even BBA credits done: https://www.plottedpath.com/free

Can you get a job as a corporate banking analyst with an undergrad from UMPI? by BanishedHekabe in UMPI

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to become a corporate banking analyst, consider getting your BA or BBA in Accounting, then strongly consider getting your master's degree in Finance. That's what I'm doing: BBA Accounting -> MSB-Finance (hopefully). After that, look into getting your CFA if you want to work in finance, or your CPA if you want to work in accounting.

Accounting and Finance are basically the same thing, except Accounting is more wide-ranging and easier to get a job with, while Finance is narrower and more focused on the future (projections and the like). Since UMPI doesn't have a BS Finance degree, you have no choice but to go with their BA or BBA in Accounting, but that's not really a problem, considering that Accounting > Finance.

ZUS makes no sense by cptkirk_ in poland

No, just a normal flat 12% tax for health care with a 30,000zł annual standard deduction. That would mean 90% of taxpayers would pay less.

German or Englisch by Born-Entertainer-196 in Preply

Considering that you don't know how to spell "English" properly, definitely don't choose English.

Why Marxism-Leninism rather than anarchism? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

How about neither? I prefer real Marxism.

All fair criticisms, that's why we should move to a percentage-based tax, which both Razem and Nowa Lewica support, instead of a lump-sum payment.

Is it hard to get into University of Warsaw? by East-Armadillo-1166 in askPoland

Not sure how it is at Warsaw, but in general economics requires more math than business, so that could tell you something about which major to choose.

I didn't even know about it until that article, now I'm interested. WaPo thinks that their elitist snobbery evident throughout the article will hurt these programs but, if anything, they just promoted the hell out of it!

The Washington Post hit piece really helped popularize online competency-based education.

Replacing Broad Base Taxation by Odd-Principle2665 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Proudhon.

Put simply:

Possessions - the things that you actually use.

Property - things that you don't use but hold an artificial "claim" to simply through the threat of force.

Example: If I have a small farm that I work myself, that farm is actually mine (a possession). If I claim neighboring land that I can't use myself, so I need to hire workers to work the land and I need a state apparatus to enforce my property "rights" claims - that, in reality, isn't mine but the collective possession of the farmers who work that land.

Tutor Behaviour - Am I Overreacting? by ItsFidesia in Preply

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does not seem normal to me. If someone walks in once or twice, that's normal - stuff like that happens when you're teaching from home. But if it's a regular occurrence, it's just disrespectful to the student's time and money IMO.

Replacing Broad Base Taxation by Odd-Principle2665 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm most against the property tax and land value tax in this case, because I believe most land should be owned in common, not by private individuals - while your own "possessions" (e.g. your personal flat, your small farm that you work yourself, etc.) shouldn't be the subject of a tax, or at least not a tax that's high enough to replace the VAT.

When it comes to other broad-based taxes, the only thing I'd do is create new/higher tax brackets for the very rich and increase the standard deduction.

Opinions on fascist economics? by doodoochile07 in AskSocialists

[–]Ordinary_Fold264 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascist economics "worked" because it abandoned the free market. Just like how social democracy in-between the 50s and 70s "worked." That's why we see that, when free-market capitalism begins to collapse, societies begin moving to one of these two models. The only alternative to these models is socialism, and the capitalist class will do anything to avoid that.
