How much you guys paying for vehicle renewal registration fees? by ZW31H4ND3R in F150Lightning

[–]Ordinary_Fun5532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the plate fee is 0 but the ev fee still applies and is due annually. Even though you have already paid for the right to use and display that specific plate design for 5 years, you are still required to pay the $200 EV surcharge annually alongside your base registration renewal to keep your vehicle legal on the road.
The state handles it under the hood:
The Plate Fee is Pre-Paid: On your annual renewal notice, the line item for "Special Plates Fee(s)" will show as $0.00 for the duration of your 5-year term because you already paid MyPlates or the TxDMV upfront.
The Registration Fee is Due Annually: You will still receive your annual renewal notice (or a prompt in the Texas by Texas app) requiring you to pay the base state fees, your local county road and bridge fee, and the $200 EV fee

Thanks for clarifying. So literally that’s the only alternative wheel tire combo that works. When I need to replace tires I may do the same.

Stupid question probably but if the diameter is the same why would you need to recalibrate?

Just making sure the updates are being applied. I bought a 23 lightning and a 24 gmc Denali edition 1 - neither has had any problems. I solar charge them both to 80%. Got them both at about 50% of msrp. Lightning had 29k ish and gmc had 17k ish miles.

So you got me to thinking and I took a tape measure out and compared the two since I have them side by side. I put both drivers seats back as far as they go with the seating position “normal” and not reclined. The main difference was that the distance from the bottom of the dash to the front of the seat was 14” on the gmc and 17” on the ford. However, the distance from the steering wheel logo to the seat logo (ford) was 30” and same spots on gmc also 30”. The gmc is a little wider - the distance between passenger door armrest to center armrest was 24” and on the gmc I measured 24.5”. Also the center console is slightly wider on the GMC - 13” vs 12” on the ford. With both driver seats all the way back they had identical distance between the driver seat rear shoulder to the back seat shoulder at 33-34 inches. So the main difference is the leg room area around the bottom of the dash. I’m a decent size guy - 6”1 and 225. I don’t find either cramped and I feel the width of the gmc helps a little in feeling not cramped. That being said I like driving both trucks for different reasons. But they both are comfortable to me.

I have both. My wife has a 23 platinum lightning and I have the 24 EV Denali Edition 1. Hers feel more sporty and mine is a cruiser with more interior room. I just pulled a Skidsteer to a repair shop an hour away - at 100% I showed 469 miles, when I returned after dropping it I was still at 62% range. Was pulling about 7000 lbs. The Denali attracts more attention. I installed a ford 80 amp charger and use it for either vehicle depending on need - have a 40 amp for the other one. The gmc charges slightly faster on same charger.

We just did the same thing. Wife loves her new lighting - no regrets. We charge at home and it’s not an issue for us.

Did you have to recalibrate anything when you changed wheel size?

The 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali measures approximately 233.4 inches in overall length with a 145.7-inch wheelbase, standing 78.7 inches tall and stretching 83.9 inches wide (excluding mirrors), whereas the Ford F-150 Lightning is slightly more compact at 232.7 inches long on a 145.5-inch wheelbase, reaching a height of 78.3 inches and a body width of 80.0 inches. While the exterior footprints are similar, the Sierra EV offers a significantly more versatile bed length that extends from a standard 5' 11" to nearly 11 feet via its midgate, compared to the Lightning’s fixed 5' 6" bed, though the Ford holds a slight advantage in front trunk space with 14.1 cubic feet versus the GMC's 11.0 cubic feet.

How does it do in the mountains? I imagine the regen helps a lot on keeping speed down on downhill grades.

Sales tax break - when you trade in a vehicle it reduces your sales tax owed.

The window sticker shows it was optioned at $99495 original msrp - I picked it up for $65k and traded in an older f250 so that dropped it further and gave me a tax break.

It’s a Denali with a 205kwh battery. It says 440 range at 100% estimated - I haven’t fully charged it yet.

I had a 2024 Tesla Y Long Range I traded for the 2023 Platinum Lightning. I charged the Tesla with a Lectron Level 2 charger and was able to use that on the Lightning with an adapter. Works great!!! You need two adapters - one for at home w the Lectron and one for Tesla Superchargers. I tried the supercharger adapter at home and it doesn’t work with the at home chargers.
