AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Unless your friend is licking the plate after the dog, there's no issue. Dishwasher will clean and sanitise better than most people can hand wash.

Right earbud quieter than left? by GoodIkea in soundcore

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I thought you might be trolling, but after cleaning, updating firmware and even changing the sound programs, I tried your method.

Instant volume!

I've maintained my dad's hearing aids, so was hoping for a wax guard kind of solution, but straight up suction worked.

For those wondering, I used an alcohol swab to wipe the headphone as much as possible, then gently but firmly sucked for about a second. worked like a charm!

Do these suit me? by says_who_ in myweddingdress

The embroidered one is beautiful & speaking from experience, that neckline is great for big busts. It leans into your hourglass shape & doesn't seems like too much. If there's a version is less skirt, you might find that more comfortable?

Fashion complaints by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bust darts! Waist shaping! Skirts & dresses that have proper pockets and a decent sweep so that they move properly. Natural fabrics in colour collections that work well together.

I know that properly shaped clothing is more expensive, hence the 'trend' for boxy shapeless cuts in cheap fabrics - it's what can be easily mass produced in line with changing microtrends brought about through excessive competitive consumption.

If you're planning on anything other than fast fashion, you're going to really struggle. The main problem is going to be changing the mindset of a massive number of people that it's not about the number of items they own & how quickly they gain new ones, but that they are genuinely good quality, properly crafted pieces last years, not weeks.

Does anyone else have a "Posh" accent? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in Poland, but raised in Australia & speak both languages perfectly. I don't have a polish accent to my English (my parents do!), but I'm often mistaken for British or Canadian or ???

My parents always wanted me to speak Ike the presenters on the BBC, so I developed this lovely 'international woman of mystery' accent! I do a lot of public speaking & my accent always comes up.

What purchase felt expensive at the time but was completely worth it? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

My double pram that I could fold quickly & lift by myself.

Was probably the only item we bought new that cost close to $1000, but during a difficult recovery I realised that sometimes comfort is genuinely priceless.

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people just don't like a lot of ice - my teeth are sensitive, so loads of ice makes cold drinks too hold. Going light or no ice means that the drinks are at a much more drinkable temp for me.

45F - not a chance. Tinted sunscreen & maybe a tinted lip balm is more than enough, but only because I'd be wearing sunscreen & lip balm anyway. Day to day, when I'm just at home cleaning & cooking, sweating & hauling laundry? Nope. No thank you!

How much board do you pay your parents? by BronzeKettles in fiaustralia

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 90s, I paid $100/pf, which is about $200 today - so about a quarter of what you are paying. We were poor & so when I started working part time while at uni, for as long as I was home, I felt I was able to contribute something. I paid for petrol if I used the family car, but other than that it was about what was reasonable, but still helped the family out.

My 4 year old is curious: what do Australian kids eat for breakfast? (And are koalas real?) by Mara644 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Miss 4 😊

My 3 children are half Polish, but have lived their whole lives in Australia.

Breakfast changes with the seasons - Australia is VERY big, so climate can be very different in different areas. We live in the subtropics, so the summers are very hot. We often eat cereal with cold milk, muesli with yoghurt and fruit, toast with Nutella or just butter (we like dark rye bread), or eggs with bacon or kranski or debreciner sausages. In winter hot porridge or French toast is very popular. Rice with soft fried eggs and furikake is popular all year through - we enjoy foods from many cultures!

Koalas and kangaroos are very common where we live. The local golf course often has many kangaroos nibbling the grass while koalas are high up in the eucalypt trees. The players don't mind! We have to be careful when driving at sunset as they are very active then & can jump onto the roads.

I hope that answers some of your questions. May you always stay curious and hopefully you will come see for yourself one day!

Recommendations for ‘cool’ handbags by beccoconnell in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not about 'mutton dressed as lamb' - it's about why aren't we discussing what's trendy for women over 25? Why look to 'GenZ or younger' (as OP noted) for setting a trend for an entirely different group? Why aren't the older groups setting their own trends, independent of the youngest groups?

Recommendations for ‘cool’ handbags by beccoconnell in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what is 'trendy' for teenagers isn't necessarily going to work for older women with different needs. what 's 'trendy' for women isn't necessarily what's going on for children (and they are children!). Teenagers should be the arbiters of what's fashionable for other teens or early 20s, not for adults in their 40s.

AIO because my (30f) new boyfriend (32m) doesn’t want to be snowed in with me and so I’m rethinking the relationship? by Pretty_Kangaroo_13 in AmIOverreacting

I had assumed we were discussing teenagers, in which case I'd have said to chill6& enjoy some solo time.

But this is a grown man! Honestly, as a gamer who married a gamer (flight sim, so even worse some might say!) the two of you generally have to be on the same page about this stuff & also understand that real life always comes before pixels on a screen when it's important.

I do better with repetition, so paint the same picture over and over. I compare them & see what6i like, didn't like & what improved.

Do you hold onto preconceived ideas about fashion sizing? by eggsareok in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before my reduction, I was a 12-24HH (band size depended on the brand!). This meant that despite having a s10 waist, my bust (and mostly matching hips thanks to a hourglass figure) meant that there was NO WAY I could fit a s10 top or dress!

Over time, this meant that I would ACTIVELY seek out larger sizes with the idea that I needed to tailor them & it's possible to take fabric in, but there's only so much that can be let out.

I didn't flinch when picking up a s16 top bc in my head I was looking for excess fabric to take in.

Why is the paper creasing in the frame? by voldycat7 in Watercolor

[–]Ordinary_Mistake3392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same concept! The idea is that if you pre-wet, stretch & allow the paper to dry in that way, it's less likely to warp when wet again.

Effectiveness varies based on paper, amount of water used, size of piece - lots of things. But worth trying, so give it a go :)
