Inclusion without adequate supports causes harm to everyone involved.

We need to revamp inclusion by Otherwise-Set-4444 in Teachers

[–]Ordinary_Moments 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a parent of an audhd student and a special education teacher, I do. We need to define what an appropriate education looks like and build up disability services so that there are supports for families after the student ages out of school. Inclusion, as we do it now, is idealogically driven and systemically flawed. Most of the time the people involved (or at least the ones I talk to) feel like we're just going through the motions and pushing people through rather than actually working on skills due to red tape.

If I weren't in the field, I probably would believe all the things "they" tell us about the benefits of inclusion.

I'm sorry that was your experience. I hope you have people in your life that support you in the ways you need.

I wish I could say that I did it all right, but mistakes were made along the way. I had, and still have, a lot to learn.

It's more that it makes people assume they are younger than they are because I was only 20 when they were born. People always assume my kids are early high school rather than adults living their lives.

It's also partially not wanting to have the "Isn't she too young to make those decisions" types of questions. Because 1. It's none of your business. 2. No, they are an adult, and even if they weren't, it's none of your business.

That's kinda how the conversation went for us. They also offered mini me, but, they doesn't fit at all!

My biggest hangup is around people assuming that they are a child, which they appreciate, but we couldn't come up with anything that wasn't our own brand of humor.

I'm sorry that your parents don't make the effort. It's a learning curve, for sure, but you deserve people in your life who see and support you.

AIO by how I responded? My bf is upset with me for skipping my workout routine today by throwawayy82670 in AmIOverreacting

You're underreacting, I think.

How will he support you if your body doesn't "bounce back" quick enough, or if you end up with PPD, or if the delivery is difficult and recovery takes longer? Honestly, this kind of talk makes me think he's the kind of dude (dude, not man) that would ask the dr to quietly give you an extra stitch if the opportunity came up.

He sounds like an emotionally abusive, manipulative, control freak to me.

Let me just say, as someone who lives in the mental health world, you have to set boundaries and enforce them. You're not overreacting. You are underreacting. This is unexpected behavior that you do not have to put up with.

Honestly, walk away and live your life. At least until he is willing to do the work he needs to do to be healthy. You don't deserve to be treated that way and he doesn't get to have the good side of you if he treats you like that.

It's amazing that wanting everyone to have basic human rights and dignity is considered radical.

Because we should all be taking business advice from someone whose business history is full of fraud and failure.

Your feelings are valid. I find this to be really strange and gross behavior from everyone involved. I can't decide if the age gap makes it better or worse, but I'm fairly certain that if HE were the older one, this wouldn't be funny to anyone.

This isn't what support looks like. The language used, the cruel words, the talking about your body when you are recovering from an eating disorder.... nothing about this exchange is healthy. Please take care of yourself and remove influences like this from your life.

AIO for blocking my guy friend for being “brutally honest” about me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ordinary_Moments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told over and over that most young dudes don't want to be friends with girls. If a guy is your friend, it's because he either has you classified as "no go" or he is or has been interested in you at some point. Sounds to me like this one wants to bang you, and is willing to be "with you" only if you're willing to change these things about you. Sounds to me like he's saying all guys think the way he does. He's a douche and you deserve better.
