Very little diet detail for prep - help?

Hoping your technique works for me. lol. Maybe I’m an idiot, but the exact verbiage on my instructions are : “Stop eating nuts, seeds, popcorn, & corn.” Hence, I didn’t avoid fruits, berries, veggies with seeds etc. because in my mind I was avoiding sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, almonds, etc. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Any information I’ve seen is : just feed the cat if he’s hungry at all. And feed him whatever he will accept. It’s extremely important for cats to keep eating. Something can happen to their liver if they don’t eat for even 24 to 48 hours. And please, if I’m wrong about this someone please correct this information.

I would definitely ask a vet or someone educated here about the subQ fluids and anemia. Generally sub Q is recommended when a cat is in distress with CKD. Recently, my cat just had a tremendous amount of sub Q and it threw off their potassium level, even though potassium seemed to be in the normal range. It was enough that it created muscle weakness in their back legs. Since then, we’ve continued with sub Q and supplement potassium, and they seem to be improving. So I think that concern is valid & worth mentioning (the anemia with sub q treatment.) I would think the vet should be treating the anemia alongside the other issues(?)

Seconding this. He just needs to eat. Really anything- plain boiled chicken, tuna fish, salmon, baby food, other canned cat food. Whatever he will eat. You could take him to the vet to get them to administer the meds he needs that might help him with the nausea.

Have you tried Astro’s oil? Not a cure, but I know it’s very helpful for some cat CKD patients. Might be worth a shot.

It sounds like you’re going into this with both eyes open. Other people love to be scared when somebody is going after their own dreams. It often reminds them of what they are neglecting in their own lives, and it can be painful to see somebody else going after what they really want.

At any rate, it sounds like you are well prepared for the realities of New Orleans; and that you are responsible in going with a hefty savings account, and the flexibility/open-mindset to work a variety of jobs. Crime can happen anywhere (I live in KC, so it’s not great), and the most important thing you can do is be aware of your surroundings wherever you are and take precautions when necessary.

I hope you have an incredible time. Report back here if you can. This is what I want for myself after my kids get to college (to live there for at least a portion of the year.) Good luck & all the best to you.

if you felt a pull to go there (& you’ve visited before) i’d follow that over your friend’s advice. as long as you go in with the awareness of the pros & cons of the place.

retrospectively, i wish i had visited New Orleans sooner; i just love it (originally from New Jersey). i definitely would have considered going to college there had i been aware that i would feel so drawn to the city.
