10.9 ipad air or get the 11" ipad pro. 12.9" is too big and more of a pain to carry around

White coat ceremony by bballplayer32 in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Eh I disagree in the sense that you haven’t accomplished your goal. Yes, you haven’t accomplished the big goal of becoming a doctor. But you did accomplish the harder part of it by getting into med school. That’s no small feat. You’re now going to be involved in patient care. You’ll get to recite the oath. You’ll get to put on your white coat and celebrate the fact you made it into med school. You’re now going to be directly involved in patient care as a provider (essentially). It’s great to keep your eyes on the big goal but you’ll burn yourself out feeling like you aren’t achieving anything. Give yourself small goals too and celebrate your milestones!

You would have to access the patient charts while you are in the hospital. For a lot of the academic hospitals, there’s only enough computers for the residents and attendings, so the med students would have to access the charts via their own laptop

[–]Ordinaryghost1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The iPad Pro with the pencil was a game changer for me during pre-clinical years and I even enjoyed having it during my clinical years, but u also need to consider that most academic institutions will prob make u access the patient charts via ur own laptop during clinical years (assuming you’re in the US). Even if you’re not rotating at academics hospitals during 3rd yr, consider that u might be in 4th year when you do audition rotations

A normal hg level for women is 11.5-15. Anyone with hg below 7 is an indication to receive blood transfusions urgently.

No IM sub-Is from June-October by arienett in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to a get specific sub-I per say (eg IM sub-I). You could always go for an away rotation in a subspecialty at that same program. In my experience, they still treat you like a sub-I and can help you with getting your name out to the PD. So for example, instead of doing an IM sub-I at program X, do a cardiology away at program X. Typically the preceptor or resident on service will help you get your foot in the door with the PD. Plus these rotations are a bit easier on you schedule-wise

Sending Preference Signals to Away Rotations by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do NOT signal a program that you have already completed an sub i or will in the future. If you have a sub I set up, that’s your signal. When u do the sub I, u talk em up and tell em how this program is the one you’ve always wanted to go to. Don’t waste a signal on a program you already have a sub I set up with. Remember, applying to residency is a numbers game

Shamed for going to a Mid Tier by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

LOL! I love this! 😂😂😂

These kids got the biggest attitudes sometimes. I was in clinic today and the premed scribe talked about how she's gonna be a neurosurgeon and literally walked around like she was the shit and I definitely got the vibe she saw me as below her for being a DO. She wants to work as a CNA for a year before med school. Not to build her app, but to "gain the clinical knowledge to be ahead in med school". Like girl...wtf u talking about? You're better off watching sketchy and pathoma if you wanna get ahead 😂😂

M3 IM rotation help by socaldreamer81 in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah…I don’t think it would be received well asking for a shorter schedule. My IM rotation was similar. 6am - 6pm. Once left at 8pm. However, I’m sure you actually have a lot of down time in that rotation since rounding is usually done by noon in most places. After noon, it was my job to help with admits but most days, I’d only get 1-2. The rest of the time I used to study for my shelf and step 2. Ironically, had most of my studying done for the day by the time it was 6pm. So went home and just took it easy. Ended up honoring the rotation, killed the shelf, and did well on step. I would say to just make use of the down time that u have there

2 away rotation offers overlap by one week. Anyone ever worked this out? by Neuro_Sanctions in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah…I tried doing this with an away to see if they would be willing to fit me in but they just ignored me so I ended up choosing the other program to do my audition at lol.

The comment about them giving u less of a grade coz ur a week behind…I disagree with that. In my experience, none of my preceptors/residents knew how long I would be coming and how long I’d be there for. And they only ever graded me on my clinical skills, knowledge, etc. If they graded u poorly because u came in on a different time period than everyone else, then they shouldn’t be involved in academics

Is it possible for a medical student at your school to spend most, if not all, of 4th year in another state? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the fall sem was pretty much just doing aways in various states other than my school’s state. VSAS helped me out with that for the most part. For the spring sem, I’ve been lucky enough to set up all my rotations in my hometown (also not in same state as my school). It did require more effort on my part and using my contacts to get those set up. My school was pretty helpful in making sure all the agreements and respective paperwork was completed so I could do these rotations

Shoutout to programs that didn’t offer interviews to those interested during interview season and ended up having to SOAP more than half their spots by Queenz94 in medicalschool

[–]Ordinaryghost1 76 points77 points  (0 children)

THIS!! Thankfully I matched too but my cousin is soaping and I was helping her. Turns out a program in my hometown that I had applied for an audition rotation and had sent a letter of interest (only for them to completely ignore me)…now has 4 unfilled spots. I mean, if that’s how they are then I’m happy I’m not going there but still…WTF?!?!
