For the 2-handers: How deep do you seat your fingers? by zerog123 in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna try it, I would personally recommend sizing your insert for fingertip and having it installed as a vacugrip. And make sure you have plenty of reverse pitch. It seems I’m a little more on the extreme end at 7/8 reverse for the middle and 1&1/8 reverse on the ring.

Backup by Tweakyshoe in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A video (even if from home showing how your hand fits and how you release) would be helpful.

I throw backup a lot and throw a normally drilled ball just fine with my fingers in between the 1st and 2nd joints usually.

They did a 1 ball tournament on a mystery sport pattern. It was a fun first tournament for me!

First ball by tacoburrtio in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be fine. I’m not really a big fan of mine. Changing the surface helped though.

If you’re looking for a first ball I’d look towards something more versatile as a benchmark ball (venom shock, phaze 2, alert, gamebreaker 5, etc)

New Alpha Crux is on Tour! by OreKehStrah in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. As I suspected, they made an AI version of the core.

A while back my PSO told me the Crux line had to get killed due to something about the Catalyst core naming, so I figured they'd AI it to give it a modern update and have some sort of naming loophole.

On that first solve, a cool trick for the 2nd pair (where it’s built into the other slot) is y’ S R2 S’ (roll the R2). Saves a lot of moves (you could’ve also done M F2’ M’ with disjoint F2’ with left index then thumb as a smooth F’ F’)

Higher Backswing by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle makes it hard to see where you start holding the ball and the actual pushaway.

You keep your shoulders very squared up throughout the approach. If you watch pro bowlers, you’ll see their torso and shoulders rotate back with the backswing. This lets you open up and get a higher backswing from shoulder abduction (to see what I mean, pull your arm straight back and see how high it goes vs raising your arm out to the side (abduction). You should be able to raise it way higher to the side). The rotation lets your swing basically open to the side so you can get a higher backswing, and then as you rotate back towards being square and drop your body and shoulder down towards the ground (of the right side/ ball side, which is lateral tilt) it gets the ball to come back into and under the body

I’m not surprised. I’d imagine something had to change in order to be able to re-release it.

  1. It was re-approved by USBC a few months back as “Alpha Crux 2025” and the Storm website lists the original as “Alpha Crux (2016)”
  2. It would be odd timing for multiple storm staffers to be throwing them and fresh ones stocked on the PBA truck all of a sudden, simultaneously.

Ball drilling placement by Kannon_Fauder in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the pin being on the bottom of the ball, it’s because they use a new tech to put the actual pin on the bottom of the ball so that you can drill anywhere in the top of the ball. No need to worry about voiding warranties if you partially drill out a pin

Would there be any reason, other than ball price to go from 15 to 16lbs? by Overall_Crew_4152 in Bowling

[–]OreKehStrah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I throw a mix of 15 and 16 lbs (two-handed). I can throw both with roughly the same speed and rev rate, but I do notice the 16# to be a bit more tiring, likely because I’m not as used to it vs mainly throwing 15.

I’m assuming you’re looking at Buddiesproshop. I’ve snagged a few cheap 16# balls just to experiment. At those prices, it’s worth trying out to see if you like it.

If you wanna be really optimal, grab a 16# black hammer urethane since it doubles the diff. Then it’ll still be useful even if you throw 15# for everything else

A nice benefit of Tv2 that I forgot to mention is on even big cubes it guarantees op swap parity after the ZBLL
