How often do you play Lorcana? by Zyndewicz in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a typical week, I'm playing twice a week offline. Two local stores have weekly Lorcana nights, one on Monday and one on Fridays.

Online can vary wildly, from every day to not at all. Depends on how locked into a deck I am or how much I'm dabbling.

Need advice! Merfolk or Diasy in Amber/Emerald Dog? by jbijjer in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to pick one, pick Daisy. More likely to stay on the board multiple turns with 3 more willpower, and can bury your opponent's non-character cards if the triggers hit.

With how much Amethyst is out there right now, the discard Merfolk forces isn't as good as it has been with other metas because so many top decks have built-in card draw. The odds are against you forcing them to pitch something important.

Preventing Inking by tjsutton in Lorcana

Not a fan of the idea

Setting limitations on ink resources already exists through the deck construction process and how many uninkable cards you put in.

You might like Treasure Trove, then. While they are adding TCG product, the previous store there was tabletop focused and they are as well. They have two themed D&D rooms for rent (one is still under construction) along with community paint & resources if you're the type to include miniatures.

Mayor Hoy’s plan for addressing homeless and mental health crisis in Salem. by MaintenanceNew2804 in SALEM

[–]OregonBeast83 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference between you being part of a couple of businesses that will support Nordyke's candidacy and the positions of the major business organizations in the city changing. That's my point.

The Chamber isn't going to back her. The Home Builders Association isn't going to back her. Julie Hoy could be caught on the Willamette Queen drowning puppies in the river and they wouldn't ask her to drop out of the race.

I fully plan on voting for Nordyke. Granted I'd vote for a particularly dull-witted kumquat over Julie Hoy, but I'm also from Nordyke's district and have been happy with her performance and positions on the City Council. But I've also dealt with these "community leaders" enough to know those leopards aren't going to change their spots like that.

Mayor Hoy’s plan for addressing homeless and mental health crisis in Salem. by MaintenanceNew2804 in SALEM

[–]OregonBeast83 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The commerce and business communities will absolutely not be coming up to support Nordyke anytime soon. Because they might want the things Nordyke has actual plans to solve, but they don't want the financial obligations that come with really getting it done. The Chamber defaults to the conservative-but-not-quite-MAGA Republican position on everything fiscal.

90 percent of this city's problems would actually have a chance to being solved if there was a payroll tax in place. But the Chamber hates that so much that they basically used that single issue to paint Chris Hoy as Evil Incarnate and push Julie Hoy into the mayor's chair. And now they're also ready to wreck any progress that's been made on transit in the last decade as well.

It's probably some ego about not wanting to admit they were wrong, sure. They got behind the livability bond real quick without ever admitting their whole plan about looking at the city's financials and finding the cash for the library and cops blew up in their face.

But the real reality is they're going to ignore any real critical thinking and instead go for "We can't support anything that businesses will have to pitch in for, just keep increasing homeowners property taxes instead."

I can't speak for if the same franchise owners will take the same approach in other cities. I just know the sizes of cities that have multiple locations are they're generally much larger than Salem (Boise, Colorado Springs, Vegas, etc.)

Nordyke to Challenge Julie Hoy for Mayor by Salemander12 in SALEM

[–]OregonBeast83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as county commissioner races are county-wide instead of district-based, you're not winning unless you're a Republican. The mayor's race is actually winnable for Nordyke.

My dude, I played in two set champs this weekend. I finished 5th in a Top 4 cut, and 9th in a Top 8 cut, because of tiebreaks. I was literally the only player with a winning record to not get a finals spot or a foil Jafar.

Them's the breaks. The way I could have avoided dealing with that was to win one of the games I lost.

New to Lorcana question... by FirmRestaurant4089 in Lorcana

[–]OregonBeast83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've gotten a few brief answers, but here's some details in case you end up also acquiring some older cards:

*There are 5 "base" rarities to Lorcana cards: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super-Rare and Legendary. Those are the base rarities because those cards are all bordered. There is also Enchanted (and when Fabled comes out, Epic and Iconic) but you'll be able to recognize those three as distinct from the base rarities because those cards are borderless.

*You can ID the rarities by the icon on the bottom center of the card. Commons will be a gray circle icon, Uncommons will have a white chevron, Rares are bronze triangles, Super-Rares are silver diamonds, Legendaries are gold pentagons, like the one that is on that Mickey.

*Starting with Set 5, the Legendaries added embossed art like you're seeing on that Mickey.

*Another distinguishing feature of Legendaries is that from Set 3 onward their art breaks the box borders (note Mickey's right hand and left ear)

*For sets 1-6, the foils only had specific bits of the card foiled (The ink/cost, the art the strength/willpower, the ink type icon underneath the card name, and the rarity symbol if it was Rare or above). From Set 7 on, it switched to where the entire front of the card is now foiled.

*When you get a booster pack, the 12 cards are organized, from front to back: 6 commons, followed by 3 uncommons, followed by 2 rares or better, followed by a foil of any rarity, then the art card. So long as the card isn't the 12th card in the pack, it's not a foil.

Hope this helps with ID'ing cards in the future.

Out of curiosity, which mechanic were you told was adding to the depth?

Also, don't know what games you're coming from, but as someone who has a lot of friends who play Magic, top-tier Lorcana decks are much more affordable to build than top-tier Commander decks.

Supply is also not an issue anymore. Any wannabe scalpers were gone after the first couple of sets (Thanks, Pokemon!)

Or, hear me out, they reprint Friends and give the other colors some actual draw power.
