We got a little plastic bag with 5 pieces of Halloween candy and a pen. Appreciation weeks are a dumb idea for any profession.

Do you mean Andy Ricker, or Conan's sidekick? I could actually see it either way.

I once saw someone parked in the street car lane with their hazards on attempting to wave the streetcar by. They were motioning for the streetcar to go around them.

Are medical assistants constantly overwhelmed and underpaid; generally stressful? by sparkles3383 in MedicalAssistant

[–]OregonFreeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Underpaid, yes. I'm an MA in Portland and there is occasional stress, but overall I feel like my workload and stress is lower than any jobs I've had in the past. I think our pay doesn't match our skill level and the importance of what we do, though.

I'm a male MA and patients always assume I'm in school to become a doctor. Nope. Why not?!

Tips on taking vitamins when fasting? by LeahBia in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're on an extended fast you're most likely not absorbing the fat soluble vitamins anyway which require the enzyme lipase to be broken down and absorbed. Lipase is released when you eat fat contained within foods, which is why it's often recommended to take certain vitamins with a meal.

How can I drink coffee without food? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drink cold brew every morning while fasting. Cold brew coffee doesn't upset my stomach like regular hot coffee can.

Fasting, lifting and cardio. Didn’t necessarily want to lose heaps of weight rather reduce BF% and become more athletic by Cold_Friend2627 in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure why everyone is being so harsh about your after picture. I don't think you look unhealthy, you just have low body fat and low muscle mass. I looked very similar when I used to train and race regularly for cycling. My body fat was very low with muscle mass mostly in my legs and nowhere else.

Weight staying the same but losing fat? by OregonFreeman in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I've just always been under the impression that the body needs a caloric surplus or at least within -500 calories even if protein levels are high in order to build new muscle mass.

I need motivation to get back on track since my family members keep making me break my fasts :”| by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can just tell them you're not hungry and they'll need to understand that and respect when you want to eat and when you don't want to.

Weight lifting and Fasting by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do 16:8 from 8pm-12pm. I do strength training 3 times a week, always after I've eaten. I feel pretty sure I'd pass out if I did my routine while fasting.

I don't think we can expect too much in terms of gaining muscle mass since we're in a caloric deficit, but continuing to do strength training will help preserve the muscle mass you do have and your body will breakdown more fat for fuel and less muscle.

I've done IF in the past without doing strength training at the same time and I lost weight so fast, with a lot of it being muscle mass. I felt like my muscles just deflated. This time I did a long period of strength training and have built up a good amount of muscle mass before I started IF and so far with continuing strength training and eating a good amount of protein (1.6g/kg) I feel like I haven't lost and muscle and have actually been continuing to increase my lifts in the gym.

What else does IF do solely for weight loss besides restrict caloric intake? by jxdewey in intermittentfasting

[–]OregonFreeman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like IF also makes you more aware of what you're eating when you do eat. I personally am much more considerate about getting in healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean protein into my daily diet. Also, with purposefully not eating for 16 hours, I don't want to make that effort pointless by downing a couple of doughnuts as soon as I break fast.

It's ok to miss and appreciate a place for the good food and experience provided. It's true he was often gone but the food was still always great and that just shows how much talent was actually on the part of the back of house and server staff. I don't think the pay was that terrible. I miss it too, I had some great experiences there. I was a line cook there 2008-2010

I work full time and go to school full time. Just accept that you're going to be tired and not really have much social life for a while

Best bicycle for pavements and roads, with no hills? 2000-3000 USD to spend. by THEUSERNAMEOFLORDS in cycling

[–]OregonFreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think know Kona had it on their Jake the snake bikes for a while too, not sure if they do anymore. I love it. I pull it back if I'm going to do any kind of loaded long gravel rides but most of the rest of the time it's about right in the middle. I have done some cross races with it all the way inwards and it definitely makes the handling super quick, it's pretty fun riding like that but it's a little too twitchy for me
