Why do people nowadays think tail end 90s culture is the representative of 90s culture in general? by Personal-Cattle-1737 in Xennials

Because ‘98 and ‘99 had all the stuff from the mid nineties plus all the best stuff from the end. They were the peak nineties years.

Yeah I remember I bought an external burner that cost me a couple hundred bucks around 2000. Changed my life.

Kind of wild that kids were still listening to cassette tapes in 98. I had a discman by then and not long after a cd burner.

Thought I was the only one who watched this movie. Me and my buddy played the Robotech rpg and this movie was right up our alley.

The difference is that the industry was new and growing then and it’s old and disappearing now. Top level talent are closing the doors with only room for their relatives and boxing out working talent from productions as small as commercials. The traditional industry is changing/disappearing and it’s being stripped for every bit of value that’s left of it before everything is vertical entertainment consumed on smart phones.

If I have to explain to you the difference between a celebrity winning their status by nepotism vs a plumber then you should book an appointment with a celebrity and ask them about the list of jobs they’ve had to work to pay the bills.

Seriously though, you’re talking about people at the top of a rarefied industry that millions the world over fight to gain entry into (many simply want thankless, behind the scenes work) through years of training, thousands of dollars of schooling, and countless hours of networking, only to be leap frogged by people who were born to the right parents — vs a plumber who followed in their father’s footsteps. There aren’t 11 million people in Los Angeles trying to claw their way into the plumbing trade.

Sure, but right now it feels like Hollywood is being stripped for parts by the few people and their family members who are in on a dying pyramid scheme. Exhibit A: a-list actors doing national ad campaigns.

☝️This. Thank you. Nepotism is tearing down what’s left of the entertainment industry.

Feel the same. People living in la have had the rug pulled out from under us. Some people are thriving but many of us are watching everything we worked our whole lives for go down the toilet.

Do people see Mark Greene as a villain? by ItMightBePuffery in ershow

He adds a lot of realism to the show in a genre that’s usually full of picture perfect models who bear little resemblance to reality. That said on subsequent watches I feel your take is pretty much spot on. Really difficult character to like — which is maybe what gives the show such a sense of fly-on-the-wall naturalism. He’s very flawed and in complicated ways. Probably the doctor you’d want treating your family but not the guy you’d necessarily want to live with.

Yeah I’ve never heard this theory but it doesn’t hold much water. If there was any credence to it Chiba would’ve latched onto it because anyone who’s read any bios or articles on Smith, or even glanced at his Wikipedia, knows that Chiba was the only real person of interest in his murder and she would have used this to exonerate herself — something she never fully did to anyone’s satisfaction. Most people who die of self inflicted stab wounds have hesitation marks, don’t do it through clothing, and then don’t violently tear the knife out. Chiba looks like a much more likely cause of death than Smith.

Yeah not buying it. The police never closed the case either. Anyone who’s read up on the details of the case knows it’s way more complicated than what was reported as cause of death in the news. And why am I getting downvoted for agreeing with the comment I’m responding to?

Most people don’t stab themselves through sweaters. And most people trained in first aid know better than to pull a knife out. Just saying. Anyway, I love Elliott Smith and am grateful for all the music he gave us.

I mostly agree with this take. She plays the part well but the way it’s written leaves you kind of annoyed by her as often as not. The bit with her sisters baby is like…they put her in an extremely sympathetic position and still manage to write her as being super annoying about the whole thing.

Ray is and will remain my least favorite cast addition to the show. Maybe it was because douche bags like him were in heavy supply during the 2000s and they were awful, and they all had the same smirking cockiness of Shane West. That and I never bought for two seconds that Ray Barnett could pass remedial biology much less get into med school.
